Asher Mir is dying. Everybody knows that. But why? shouldn't his ghost do its magic light powers to save him?
No it can't. Asher Mir is disconnected from the light completely, in short, he is already good as dead.
read this (from the exotic ship Asher Mir's One-Way ticket)
Asher Mir loathes patrol duty.
Zavala thinks about respect, so Zavala thinks it's because of the recruits who swarmed Echo Mesa in the wake of the Red War. They jeer at Asher over the radio and meet his impatient condescension with brash challenges: Come say that to my face. But Zavala is wrong.
Cayde thinks about his free time, so Cayde thinks it's because Asher has better things to do. Why support a supply chain when you're dying of Vex flu? Sure, sure, it's not really flu; that's not the point. The guy's dying! But Cayde is wrong.
Ikora used to be wrong, too, but now Ikora thinks about death. She knows Asher has not died since he was transformed. She knows what it is to sit paralyzed beside a radio, full of jealous fear, listening to a battle that you cannot join.
They could bring him every jumpship in the system, she thinks, and he'd never leave the Rupture.
He wont leave or go into action because he cannot. He is literaly stuck there doing nothing in quiet despair, wanting to do something but knowing he can't. Whatever the Genesis mind did to him and his ghost, it damaged him beyond repair. And he's stuck, not being able to do anything, paralyzed with fear and pain, waiting for the vex to fully consume him.
I sympathize with Asher. i understand that pain.
More evidence can be taken from these two quotes
"I have considered ending my Ghost. None of my research indicates a way to extricate the vex technology from it's shell. This is how I know I'm a coward; because I cannot bring myself to..."
"Despite how it may seem, I regret what happened to my Ghost. I chose to enter the Pyramidion. She just... had my back."
He knows that his actions have irreparably effected his closest friend.
Good job to bungie for creating relatable stories in a beyond relatable future.
[EDIT]
No, i am not dying

1 ReplyGood post... I now have way more sympathy for him... But I always thought he was sorta a good character with the zavala lines...
perhaps you could join the void...
1 ReplyThere is also the story from D1 where Eris finds him in a hospital after being infected with radiolarium. Check on ishtar collective for more info.

2 RepliesEdited by Starkweather: 12/30/2017 4:38:37 AMAs I understand it the Vex do not have access to the Light the way Guardians do. As Asher Mir is consumed by the Vex cells within his body he slowly loses his connection to the Light. He cannot fight like the Warlock he once was and there is no guarantee that he can be resurrected if he does. An even worse possibility? The Vex will have their Light through Asher. I understand that Kabr was consumed in a similar fashion but he channeled his Light into the Aegis and, perhaps intentionally, deprived the Vex of this power. What happens when Asher is completely consumed?

Asher took a bath in radiolaria.(kinda)When he died, his ghost started reviving, but something went wrong. The ghost also had direct contact. He resurrected asher, but second later turned off due to the vex virus.Asher picked her up with his arm, but got infected. His ghost, no longer a ghost, and he, left alone, has his days counted. When eris visited him, only the hand to the elbow was infected. Now , the infection reaches his shoulder. He is slowly but surely turning into a vex.

4 RepliesAlso, one day I spent about ten minutes waiting on a friend and just sat by him and listen to his dialogue. From what he says his ghost was also infected with vex tech. He would talk about how he couldn't bring himself to destroy it, even if it's for its own good. Also he mentions that he has not been revived ever since the accident, in fact he doesn't know what could happen if the ghost tried.

1 ReplyEither the Vex made it to where Asher’s Ghost can no longer restore Asher (like you said) or the Vex attachment is considered a part of Asher’s body now so can’t be erased by revival or restoration Looking at the evidence you’ve gathered, I’d have to go with the first option. Great post btw

2 RepliesI gotta say I kinda hated him at first but recently I was doing a strike a he was talking about his old team “we stuck together...until we didn’t.”. He’s just processing his grief differently then others.

1 ReplyThanks for the post, Asher is one of my new favorite in D2. I can’t wait to see what happens with him. Hopefully it isn’t another Kaber.

1 ReplyHmm, interesting the lore is probably the part of this game that hasn’t let me down. Good post i hate Asher slightly less nowb

1 ReplyIn one of the age of triumph grimoire cards it actually says his ghost got afflicted as well. And that it just kept staring at him with a glowing red eye.
