Oh stop. Just stop this armchair forensic accountant crap. You have no idea what their overhead is, or revenue stream needs, or inflow or investments or debts or anything that qualifies you to question why these business need to make money. They are businesses. They make money to stay open. Just because they have more money than you doesn't mean they're "evil". ... Oof... bunch of financial experts in this forum. Hope you kids are having fun.

  • Agreed.. All this remove eververse crap is pathetic bandwagoning! It's not a gamble because there's no advantage to be gained.. You have a choice to not buy it.. It's only cosmetic items! Why so riled up? Who cares? Just don't buy it. If you can't ignore a nonessential part of the game you need to get a life.

  • Remember that works both ways. If you can defend them without having a business yourself, they can criticize them without having a business themselves. "You don't know." is not a valid counter-argument. Neither is calling them kids, since the most childish one right now is you, your entire post is an emotional outburst. You call it armchair forensic accountant crap? But I'm not seeing anything in your post that shows any deeper understanding than the rest of the people here.

  • Really? Come on man, that's such a cheap way of missing the point. Anyway, I replied in detail to someone else, explaining it, I'll let you find it. Or not, I've made my point.

  • The only one missing the point is you. You're acting like a petulant child over the fact people are getting upset over something you're not upset over. You didn't make a point you just shouted "You kids don't know so you shouldn't talk about it." you didn't make a point because you never had a point, you know absolutely nothing about a conversation you're trying to shut down because you project your ineptness on others. I'm still waiting for you to make an even remotely concise argument that isn't based on speculation and emotion, but its fairly obvious that's not going to happen.

  • I'm upset. I just know how to focus it and the appropriate tone one should take when giving feedback. Not this knee jerk, "I'm an expert because I can use the internet" nonsense. But please, by all means, keep acting like children.

  • youre right, i don’t know any of the background stuff, but you know what i can observe as a consumer? two of my (and many other people’s) favourite games of all time, halo 2 and halo 3, each came out over ten years ago and had NO microtransactions. halo 3 had a map pack for like 15 bucks. bungie’s halo will go down in gaming history as one of the objectively greatest and most successful video game franchises of all time. and none of the games had any microtransactions. not one. “but development prices have since gone up as graphics and stuff improve so they have to compensate!” well. make the game good enough to sell lots of copies then. hell, even do what destiny has been doing and drop a must-buy-to-continue-progressing dlc once a year for 30-40 but do not do what everyone seems to be doing these days make an objectively okay game that you know will not sell super great but not have any worries because you know that you will still make bank because people will sell their souls to microtransactions. it works on a corporate level but it equates to much less respect from the consumer who sees it as nothing but a cash grab and an excuse to make bad games which is exactly what it is.

  • Ppl will sell their souls to microtransactions? What a cheap, unintelligent blanket statement that represents the entire "kill tess" argument. The only ppl who buy loot boxes are idiots who HAVE to have that shiny new thing to show off to everyone, the problem is weak minded, poorly informed kids with no respect for money, I see eververse as an "asshat tax"

  • Great, you are old enough or smart enough not to buy but not everyone falls in this category. There are plenty of children that play this game that are easily tempted into buying silver. Bungie has done everything in its power to make eververse and purchasing silver appealing, from having you take frequent trips there to collect engrams, to eververse exclusive events like the dawning. Weapon/armour diversity is almost nonexistent. Most weapons and armour are reskins and exotics as well are for the most part boring. Once you've played the game a little, you have most likely collected every weapon/armour from the game and all that is left is eververse. Because of generally uninteresting rewards, the eververse content becomes that much more coveted. They are harder to get and pretty much all that is left to collect for most players. Another issue is the gamble like nature of eververse which I won't elaborate upon as it's pretty self explanatory. Destiny one did it right. All rewards worth having required some kind of work. Destiny 2, you can only get some of the rewards if you "throw money at the screen". Luke's not so subtle foreshadowing was on point all along.

Myself and a whole bunch of other ppl (1.2m players and only 3000 feel the need to complain) have zero desire to pay for silver, As i said in another post, i earn about 10 engrams a week on my main account by just playing the game normally (i.e. not specifically grinding xp, just playing the parts of the game i enjoy). I have a tonne of bright dust, loads of ships, sparrows, ghosts and shaders from eververse, which is way better than d1 (5 motes of light) why should we be deprived of this source of free loot because a bunch of needy kids simply HAVE to get all the new gear before anyone on their friends list?

  • There are 1.2 million active players on Bnet? Where did you get these numbers from? Please don't tell me that you are assuming all active players are active participants on the forum. The main points that you should have taken away from my above post: Anemic Loot in a loot based shooter. Most loot can be easily obtained leaving only eververse items. Some of these are fairly rare and have an expiry period, meaning if you don't get them by the end of the season, you are out of luck. This promotes further spending in a full priced game with paid DLC. Events like the dawning are centered entirely around eververse. To elaborate with examples. With the curse of osiris, the eververse vs rewards from other sources were about 50/50. Approximately 90 items from each source. The dawning introduced an additional 54 items that are only attainable through eververse which will expire at the end of the event. Given that there is a cap on how many dawning loot boxes you can get, it is impossible for one player to be able to get everything. Do you want everything? Most likely not but that is not the point. One should be able to get everything given enough time and effort. A trend has started to form. The game is becoming eververse centric. It started off really small in D1 with some emotes and has now progressed to more content being available from eververse than from all other activities combined.

I'm pretty sure map packs and the beginnings of season passes were the big thing at that time. Map packs are a lot worse than dinky little optional cosmetic loot boxes
