You're absolutely right. It is a cash grab. I can't put AoT or the April update in the same group as The Dawning. The first two were huge game patches that added stat tracking to encourage grinding for items. The Dawning, SRL, and Halloween are similar in that they are free and they encourage grinding. Only real difference in the "events" is that Bungie gives you the option to not grind and use bright dust to purchase items directly. If you don't have bright dust, then, as a last effort, you can use real money. I've received three Dawning engrams since the event started (did not play Tuesday or Wednesday) and have received one piece of armor. I have about 3K in dust that I will not be spending on armor because I feel it is not worth it. Now, if Tess sells Exotic Ghosts, I may pick one or two up because long after the event is over, those Ghosts with real perks will still be useful. I don't feel the need to be required to buy silver. No one should.
