Destiny 2 loyal fanbase= Battered Wife Syndrome

I am not talking about the people who just play the game because they enjoy it. I am talking about the people who feel the need to come on these forums and dismiss any and every single shred of criticism without reservation- constructive and non alike. Anyone who does not agree that the game is perfect is considered a "toxic" or "a hater". The people that blindly defend the game's shortcomings never really address the criticism head on, but instead they resort to the typical ''if you don't like it, leave", "go make sure your own game" etc. Why are these people an issue to me? Because they're enablers. They enable Bungie to continue to do shit like throttle XP without telling you, then doubling down on their decision after being caught by doubling the xp needed to level up, locking players out of content behind a paywall and only backtracking when enough noise is made that it can harm sales, or releasing game features that are broken ( 3 of coins) and leaving it as is until early 2018. These people look past these glaring issues and make "haters" and "toxic" people out to be at fault somehow or that it is okay for Bungie to do this because it's a business. Battered woman syndrome begins as an abusive cycle with three stages. First, the abuser engages in behaviors that create relationship tension. Second, the tension explodes when the abuser commits some form of abuse: physical, psychological, emotional, sexual, or otherwise. Third, the abuser tries to fix his wrongdoing and apologizes. This third stage is frequently referred to as the “honeymoon” stage, and involves the abuser making amends for his bad behavior. During the honeymoon stage, the abuser is forgiven, and the cycle starts all over again. As the cycle continues, the victim starts to feel that the abuse is her own fault. When the victim takes responsibility for her own abuse, this develops into “learned helplessness.” The victim feels helpless because she has convinced herself that the abuse is her own fault, yet she cannot understand why the abuse continues if it’s her own fault. She becomes convinced of her helplessness, and that the abuse cannot be escaped. Thus, battered woman syndrome develops. TL;DR- Your hyper defense complex of the game is counter-productive to your own investment. Edit- There are a lot of people replying that these people I am describing do not exist. My question to you is, what forum are you visiting? Lmao in the time I have posted this thread which I mentioned will probably get no actual replies to the criticism I am giving i.e., giving Bungie a pass for XP debacle, locked content, releasing broken content like the 3ofC or Prom. Lens. Instead, here are some of my favorite replies
domestic abuse is a serious thing and nothing at all like a game... you should be ashamed for making that comparison.

Look guys! Another fascist trying to make you feel bad for liking a great game.

Opinions are like a$$holes. Everyone has one. Except yours types long wind cry baby babble infecting a forum and community with your trash stench

More like exposed a trash bag loser trying to rain on the enjoyment of others. Enjoy the douchebag role. It suits you well.

The people who do not play but still post garbage like this on the forum are worse than battered....

Wow comparing a video game to domestic abuse... IT'S JUST A GAME.

The fact that you compared a video game to actual abuse is pathetic. Not even going to try to argue with this stupidity.

And yet you bought the expansion and still continue to play it by your character level, gg.

At least you're not crassly generalising and lumping hundreds of thousands of people in one of two aribitrary groups generated by your addled mind. No wait... ....thats exactly what you're doing. My bad

Slow down, take a breath, it’s a video game, you’ve gone way to deep and thought way too hard.

What you mean is is "stop using words I dont understand because I cant see an argument because not only am I judgemental, but Im also fking stupid" Muted.
• This post is hilarious. I think the comparison is wildly inappropriate even if it's not entirely inaccurate. Thanks for the laugh.

The only communities that are more toxic than video gaming right now are political forums....and for the same reasons. Dogmatic thinking, immaturity, and "you're not only wrong there something wrong with you" mentality in approaching any sort of dissent. The problem is that PEOPLE ARE DIFFERENT. They have different tastes. They play games for different reasons. They have different expectations. So no one form of entertainment is going to appeal to everyone. But there is this mentality in gaming that a "good game" is one that EVERYONE will like...and that is simply NOT true of ANY form of entertainment. Now or ever. So you got this really toxic brew of kids (and adults that still act like kids) who seem to believe that their $60 entitles them to a game that has endless content, and is CUSTOM-TAILORED to their personal preferences as a gamer. But if you put all 7 million people who bought this game in a stadium...you'd get NINE MILLION different ideas about what Destiny 2 should or shouldn't have been....and there is this childish race to see which faction can win the shouting match and struggle for control. As one of the "chief Bungie apologists" around here. I've had just about every kind of adolescent sexual insult hurled at me, and called every name but the one my mother gave me. For doing nothing but standing up for some common sense, polite-and-respectful discussion, and Bungie's legitimate right to be paid the fair market value of their work. TLDR: I'm enjoying Destiny 2. But enjoying the game doesn't mean that I'm blind to the fact that the game is failing to reach its potential. I just don't let that fact POISON my ability to play the game and have fun. Because I CHOOSE to relate to what the game is, rather than working myself into a frenzy over what it ISN"T, when I'm playing. When I step away from the game----and come here to talk about it----that when I put on my critic hat, and talk about what can be done to improve the game. But when I play...I play. Being a critic while I play only damages me, and my own capacity to have fun. Nothing more.

          • Interesting analogy. Ih short you are on target. Those that go against your wrtieup there...well they are those that you describe and will defend Bungie no matter what anyone says because they are like race horses....playing with blinders on and Bungie is the jockey that is whipping their ass to keep playing.

            • Na I love the series and enjoy this game but -blam!- do they do stupid shit too often. Started d1 on Xbox good times. switched to PS4 for d2 and I still have fun but only when I play with friends...and breaks in between... because there’s no endgame.... and too much eververse.... ok I’m done.

            • Nobody is defending Bungie in regards to those major issues you brought up. People are, however, defending the fact that they are finding a great deal of personal enjoyment in D2. D2 is here and it is what it is for the most part. I have a laundry list of things that I would change about the game just like everyone else, but I am still enjoying the game for the good it has. D2 is kinda like a fast food restaurant. Most of the menu is stuff that doesn't excite you but there are a handful of items that satisfy that urge so it's definitely still worth the trip.

I would like to give my perspective on the current state of the forums. I would like to show examples of what I believe to be good and bad examples of criticism. Making a post that is factual, non-offensive (name calling etc..), and offers a solution, should make the discussions between staff and members more productive. Here is a list that I consider to be poor examples of criticism:
https://www.bungie.net/en/Forums/Post/240731211?sort=0&page=0 https://www.bungie.net/en/Forums/Post/240725367?sort=0&page=0 https://www.bungie.net/en/Forums/Post/240651034?sort=0&page=0 https://www.bungie.net/en/Forums/Post/240716793?sort=0&page=0
Here is a list that I believe to be good examples of constructive criticism:
https://www.bungie.net/en/Forums/Post/240676034?sort=0&page=0 https://www.bungie.net/en/Forums/Post/240716895?sort=0&page=0 https://www.bungie.net/en/Forums/Post/240708750?sort=0&page=0 https://www.bungie.net/en/Forums/Post/240726877?sort=0&page=0
***I would like to mention that I am not calling anyone out. These are just a few examples I found on the first few pages. They met most of the criteria I mentioned above. From my point of view, I really like this game. I like to play it often, but by no means do I think it is perfect. I think everyone could find at least one thing that they would like to change. For me, I would like to be able to select the crucible game type. (Clash is my favorite.) Our community is very diverse and passionate. Which is a good thing! I am aware that there are "trolls" that like to get a rise out of people. Unfortunately, this is the reality of the internet. The best policy to handle hecklers is to ignore them, block them if you have to. Responding or even commenting something along the lines of BLOCKED, fuels the fire. I have not seen as many interactions on the forums from Bungie as I would have liked too. I understand that they are not able to respond to every post, but threads that are trending should be addressed. I wouldn't expect a thorough response, but a simple "We're working on it" is much better than complete silence. As far as staff feedback is concerned, Bungie is in a very difficult position. They practically have to walk on eggshells. Some of this comes from contradicting feedback. Some like to grind and others don't, or half wants more D1 exoctis to return and others would rather see new content instead. If they, (Bungie) comments in favor of one idea, but decides to go another direction, they will lose credibility. They may have to be especially careful when posting because of the amount of lawsuit and refund threads that I have seen recently. Sometimes words can be misinterpreted and can get you into trouble. I think their strategy right now is to methodically make decisions behind closed doors; and reveal them when they are absolutely sure it is going to be implemented. This can be frustrating to the community because they are perceived as not being transparent. I could go on, but this is already getting pretty lengthy. I would just recommend, when making good/bad feedback, to make sure it is more neutral. If the community is split, like it is now, you should try and appeal to as many people as possible. I am aware that you cannot please everyone. Try not to point fingers or call someone names. The minute someone thinks you are complaining or being abrasive they will usually stop reading and become defensive. In my opinion, if we want our community to have productive conversations, we must agree on a few ground rules. 1. No insults. 2. Identify the problem without being too subjective, (get the point across) 3. Explain how you would solve the problem and/or ask others for ideas. 4. Make sure that you are up to date with the latest information, sometimes being misinformed can lead to rumors, which hurts the community even more. I appreciate you for taking the time to read my post. I look forward to chatting with you in the near future.

                      • You are wrong. If we all keep bashing the game then they will be forced to make changes. Look what happened with battlefront 2. Look what happened when they tried to add drm on the Xbox one. We all kicked off and it caused these companies to make changes. Most of us don't even log on. So our money has been wasted anyway. The only thing we can do is keep protesting hoping that Bungie will wake up. Unfortunately it may be too late.
