Forge Weapons Are Not Worth the Grind

Me and a friend grinded Public Events and Strikes last night for the green and blue thingies to be able to unlock the Forge weapons in Curse of Osiris. While the weapons look cool, there is nothing special about them so far. We grinded for 6 - 7 hours and these weapons were definitely NOT worth it. While I appreciate Bungie's efforts to give players things to do with CoO, this kind of grind for rewards that are nowhere near equivalent to the grind effort just is not worth it. And another massive FAIL on Bungie's part. EDIT: Wow! Didn't think I would get such a response. Keep it going.

  • There hasn't been anything worth grinding for since Y1 man. And we KNEW this was going to be the case in CoO because PVP Balance tops all priorities. What does this mean? All the "new" incentives bungie is trying to add to encourage people to grind will either be cosmetic or the "stat boosts" the weapons get will be so slight that they will be negligible because if they actually DID make a difference, they would likely create imbalance in PVP based on whether or not you have a masterwork/forged weapon. Bungie just does not get it - and neither does the fan base. YOU CANNOT have a unified sandbox AND have the game tuned for PVP balance and expect your grind to be worthwhile. All of your weapons will be tuned down to mediocrity so that it doesn't create imbalances in PVP. Start treating the game like the traditional Arena Shooter FPS game that it is and not the LOOTER game that got us hooked into the franchise in the first place.

    • Is there possibly anything this community won't complain about? "We need something to grind for!"- and this is what happens. The game is entertaining, not perfect, and many of us have played this going on four years now. The game isn't going to be fresh, exciting and new all of the time, no game is.

      • I dig the grind. I dig the scout rifle. Gives me something to go after even if they are not the greatest.

      • All of these weapons r reskins of previous weapons we have already received in the original D2 and D1. The pulse rifle is the strangers rifle we received at the end of the D1 vanilla campaign. They added some color, horns, bells but NOTHING original or new. Does anyone at Bungo have an original thought or idea anymore?? It's not much to ask for something new in a game we have played for 3 years now. I have not completed the last weapon yet and don't know if I will. Feel like it is a complete waste of time. I will just pull some weapons out of the vault, change the shader and b done in 2 mins instead of 8+ hours.

Agreed this is the exactly the same as the exotic sword grind, guess what bungie, it is not fun to do the same thing over and over again at a chance for a resource, if you are going to do this then make it a guaranteed drop from a specified activity, there is nothing that makes me want to play this less then rng grinding, well maybe the warlock glide mixed with mercury having more places to fall off then swiss cheese but that's a rant for later, bungie if resource gathering is part of the game then remove the god awful rng and give objectives that reward it, like finish a heroic strike you get 1 resource your going for because I can't imagine anyone is looking forward to endlessly grinding pe like we already have since like the SECOND -blam!-ing week, LAZY!!!

      • Was there any NEW perks at all? So far I’m STILL just seeing the same 4-5 perks in different combos per weapon class. Which effectively makes everything still reskins. 😥

        •
While the weapons look cool, there is nothing special about them so far.
I think it is the "look" that is what is different. Vex tech.
We grinded for 6 - 7 hours and these weapons were definitely NOT worth it.
Certainly each player has the option to tackle the content in their preferred way, but consider approaching this type of content with a little less intensity (shorter play times) and you may not leave the game feeling spent.
this kind of grind for rewards that are nowhere near equivalent to the grind effort just is not worth it.
But it is not like you haven't been warned. Bungie has stated from the beginning they make BALANCE a priority in PVP, and the appearance of the Lens shows what can happen in PVP when items get out of balance...soooo...you should really have known that nothing OP was going to come from it.
And another massive FAIL on Bungie's part.
But yet this part of the game alone gave you 7-8 hours of entertainment, in addition to the other time you've put into getting your first character to 315 plus. A "massive fail" is when you play the game for a couple hours and it just plain sucks. You put in 7-8 hours alone on a quest that you KNEW up front wouldn't result in a reward that was going to disturb balance. Just seems like people want to buy the car, put 50,000 miles on it, and then return it to the dealership wanting their full money back. Yes D2 in general has a lot of issues, but you don't puts hundreds of hours into a game and then call it a "massive fail".

        • I like grinding in grindy game, grmoire, ghosts, ships, sparrows, shaders etc etc in D1 did nothing for me but I grinded them all. Raid armour and weapons I never used, ginded for them all Call me sad but grinding is one of the reasons I play Destiny.

          • Agreed. I loved that they added some grind to the game again but I can do without everyone of these weapons!! Not one of them is a must have or like you said, worth the time invested in unlocking them.

          • I hear ya, I have 1,3,4 so far. Grindy yes, but I did them one a day, and ran the grind on 3 characters, turned em in on my Titan. No killing myself or anything too severe. We have all week to get those done before reset. Then we'll get the next batch. I not a "collect-all" player, but these? I'll collect for shits n giggles to get the St-14 shotty at the end. I'm in no rush. Rasputin DLC is in March/April (I think). Plenty of time. We'll have a bit of a Xmas event and maybe get back SRL btw now and Rasputin. I have a 318 Titan and my lock n hunter can be 315 so far. I still need to run call to arms and NF on all 3 for those milestones. Been holding off to get higher PL so the drops are better. Raid drops today. Looking forward to it.

            • I really don't think its a fail. It is something new and so far I enjoy. I do wish that maybe more lore was added to the items to read (kind of like exotic lore and stuff). it is a gameplay element to grind for, but grinding 6-7 hours of it will burn anyone out and make that certain someone a bit grumpy. I typically play for about 1-2 hours as my days allow unless its a weekend. So ya, its a grind, but its a grind I enjoy. It would be more fun I think if some of the items were more challenging to get. As much as i like walking rambo style through an entire strike, mowing down about 150 enemies in each one to get a single crafting item, is a bit boring. I think bungie is going in the right direction i just want it to be more fun.

                  • Blame PvP. Weapons are under powered to create balance in the Crucible and maintain whatever TTK Bungie desires. Note. I said blame PvP, not the PvP players. You can't blame the patrons of the Arenas in Rome's day when it was the Emperor's fault for building the damn thing to begin with.

                    • Fixed loot, it's broken the game, but bungie are too ignorant to admit it... The game is basically a duplicate deleting shard collection game.... Fixed loot made weapon variations and usage variety worse than before, and they're not balancing the game more often than before, so what's the point?

                    • The problem is when Bungie feels the need to put all, ALL weapons on an even playing field. That makes Casuals feel good about their legendaries that took all of 15 minutes to get, and makes people like you who grinded for 6-7 hours feel disappointed. The problem is too much time making sure that Casuals feel good about being bad. Yes, because everyone knows that the most dedicated part of your fan base that definitely needs all this time and attention is the FILTHY CASUALS who will LEAVE as soon as the next CoD drops.
