Back in beta it was possible to run the game through steam as a non-steam game.
While many people wont see the benefit of it. The "benefits" was (for me at least and I know others can relate to it too):
* Take Screenshots. - Yes. As simple as it sounds, with steam overlay, you are able to take screenshots and upload it directly to steam, as a non-steam game the screenshots wont be seen by friends and such unless you actually give them a link to the screenshot in question. Either way, the screenshots will be saved on your PC and with just one push of a button you have captured that moment you wanted to save and reflect upon. Now people have to use a screen capturing program to actually take screenshots, in my case i use Shadowplay, which does crash my game 50% of the time i take a screenshot which makes me discouraged to actually print my screen. Some use Windows Button + Print Screen and it works fine, but if you have multiplie monitors then get ready to do some editing work to remove the other monitors from the screenshot.
* Having a in-game overlay - While the steam overlay is not the best it's also not the worst overlay there is, since the game on PC is very unstable and likes to crash (for me and others it's crashing 50% of the time we tab out of the game and tab in again). With the overlay you can actually access the internet and chat with steam friends.
* Letting a friend or two or people inside your close circles watch you play the game as you stream it to them - Not all of us want to be on youtube gaming or on twitch, it's a fact. Some of us just want to share some gameplay footage to friends that might be curious on the game. Also since they will be in direct contact with you if you stream to them they can ask you questions if you can try certain things and show it to them and explain how it works which could end up with another person buying the game. Even with the free trial, not everyone want to download or can bother to clean their hard drives to try the game out.
Now in the beta this was actually quite nice to have. Only the screenshot thingie was very nice to have. It's still not as optimal to actually have a REAL IN-GAME SCREENSHOT BUTTON
like most games have
. But this is a nice addition to us steam people.
