Having originally hated the matchmaking in Destiny 2's Crucible game mode, I realize it has very little to do with the matchmaking and more to do with the player. No, whereas I thought it was just a shitty concept of MMR/ELO/Whatever the hell being matched against ludicrousy different values, it's the players that are complete morons.
Now, I'm not God's gift to PvP. Quite the opposite. I suck. But I also can consciously see patterns and realize why things don't work out in my favor. So, here's a crash course in some Crucible 101 that I've picked up on. Hopefully, you'll learn a thing or two and stop being 100% trash and get to my level at 90% trash:
1) You ignore the early start Power Ammo.
Every match there will be a single area that Power Ammo starts at. It has a VERY SHORT timer: 10-20 seconds, from what I've gathered. This is to encourage players to get an early fight at a lucrative position for a potential game changer. Half of you fools completely ignore this and go running off looking for a fight, probably solo, in the alleyways of Atlantis, or where-ever. Not-so-pro-tip: Don't be a moron. Gather up on that power ammo and try to keep the enemy off of it for as long as possible, because whoever gets it has a massive early start advantage over you.
2) You just ignore Power Ammo in general.
SO MANY GAMES I've seen my team of random solo-queuing inbreds completely ignore power ammo. It SHOWS the timers on these things, and they ALWAYS spawn in the same locations on the map. There is no randomization to it at all, and if you go galavanting around on your own you're practically giving the enemy team the power ammo. A smart/coordinated enemy will roam between the power ammo spawns because they know you're an idiot who has no concept of tactical/strategic awareness, thus leading to a mercy rule. He who controls the Power Ammo controls the game - with very few exceptions.
3) You use grenades too liberally.
Grenades - especially Pulse Grenades - typically are excellent killing tools. You know this, so you use them at the first sight of an enemy, long-arming that damn thing across the map at an enemy right next to a wall. Then they run away, heal up, and kill you when you advance through an open field. You probably scream into your microphone about how they're cheating or something. No, you just used your most powerful tool as an opener. Use grenades as area denial or clever finishers for enemies that take cover. Only open with it if you're certain you can chase them down and get the kill, if they're ganged up.
4) You suck at melee.
General rule of thumb: Whoever gets the first melee is generally going to be the one that wins the melee duel. On occasion, you'll get someone that takes three punches instead of one. Either way, don't go into melee unless a) You are class-built for melee (Striker Titan) b) YOU ARE CLASS-BUILT FOR MELEE. Going into a melee duel with someone who is class-built for melee when you aren't is not only giving them a free kill, but in most cases giving them a free over-shield. Congratulations on boning the rest of your team.
5) Team-fire is best fire.
Yeah yeah, we get it, you hate Destiny 2 PvP because you aren't a one-man army anymore and it's "just a team shooter". News flash: 400 bullets flying at you generally has more killing potential than 100 bullets flying at you. In any game. So when you walk into a fight with 2-4 people as a solo guy with a MIDA Multi-tool, the best you can hope for is going 1:1. Another news flash: Individual skill doesn't mean shit against a team. Don't blame the matchmaker because you're miles away from the nearest team-mate.
6) Know your game mode.
Never go lone wolf on Crest. Never over-extend in Control. These are basic concepts that should be obvious, but people will still run off solo and feed the enemy team Crests or try to go for the coveted three-flag capture. It's pointless and stupid. Sure, it worked once in that one game two weeks ago, but that's an exception and not the rule. Play smart, help your team win.

0 upvotes? Man, people really can't take advice or criticism these days. Legitimate points being made even if the delivery wasn't respectful.

50 RepliesThese tips are horrible, sorry to say. No Crucible match should provide power ammo right off the bat, or spam it continuously throughout the match, as in D2. And no player should ever cave into accepting team-shot over applying personal skill. Be a team player? Yeah. Castrate yourself? Never. This post is what Bungie wants players to adapt to, which does not teach players how to grow skill. Instead, rolling over to accept these terms is simply akin to sucking at the teat. Just face it: Bungie killed skill in D2 Crucible. PvP is no longer the Crucible, but the Crutch. -blam!- you Bungie.

26 RepliesI totally agree, everyone complains about crucible and soloing and 4 stacks when a majority of the players playing solo arent smart at all. 90% of them think they still have a matador in their hands and can pick up free kills with no gunskill required. The other 10% run in to team fire thinking they will survive. People want it easy and want others who put the time in to be good to go somewhere else. I've seen many solo's perform really well against teams due to them playing with their head and not like an ape.

I only play PvP to have fun and excessively t-bag.

Frankly, it seems pretty hard to "suck" at this PvP. I was an average player in D1 PvP. In D2, however, my stats were much better. Why, you my ask? Because it's easier and takes less skill. A few simple tactics will allow you to rack up the kills. Well, at least in the "casual" play list.
3) You use grenades too liberally.
It's hard to use them in any other way, unless you use a Titan. With these ridiculously slow recharge rates and pathetically weak grenades, most are just not viable. I tried most of them too.

Early power ammo is not in controll. You forgot that,

5 RepliesThe problem with a lot of people (myself included) is that the "skill" is a different type of skill and not one that a lot of people (myself) like to employ. Take heavy and special ammo out of the equation and in D1 you could solo or roll as a team and be successful. D2, because of how weak primaries are, seals the fate that solo roaming is a death sentence. This is what a lot of people are upset about. Employing the straw man argument that "shotguns and snipers don't take skill" is pretty weak. Speaking of primaries only, D1 allowed individual ability to shine even against the odds. If someone goes up against a 2 or 3v1 and comes out successful due to aim and map awareness, then I'm sorry, but they are just more skilled. Personally, I can't stand this PvP. There are some fun moments, but nothing that sets any particular match apart from the next. I hate the fact that my headshots don't mean shit when they are killing so slowly that the opponent's team has time to eat me up or press me to cover before I can get the killshot. I agree with your premise though, that we can't expect to be successful in D2 PvP whilst playing against its basic mechanics. It is just the basic mechanics that a lot of us are griping about. I would take D1 PvP without abilities or special ammo, only primaries, over D2. But, that's just a preference.

The only part I disagree with is team-fire. Not that’s its bad, but you can succeed, albeit difficult, to flank a team IF you have a grenade or power weapon with you and in a coordinated squad because it requires your team to distract while you run around and get the annihilation.

Im just underwhelmingly average One day I play like a quadriplegic brain dead leagally blind tone deaf toddler with the reaction time of a sloth with ptsd And another day Im dropping 40 bombs with less than 10 deaths and I feel like the most unstoppable person in the world

See? The reaction to this guy's post is why this place kinda sucks. It was informative and funny - sure a lot of us were probably doing the things he mentioned, but that didn't make the post any less helpful or entertaining, yet - down-voted... Damn, the salt is just everywhere. People who actually do enjoy the game have practically NO place to go to have a conversation without the salt weeds coming to choke it out...

https://destinytracker.com/d2/pgcr/1109304291 Nope. It's definitely NOT matchmaking. Not at all. I guess I just suck.

1 ReplyYes new Meta, run like a bitch .. no thanks - I'll play D1.

You can try and make it seem like you're splitting an atom when it comes to the pvp in this game but no matter how you try and spin it, there's a simple fact. Solo PvP is downright miserable.

1) You ignore the early start Power Ammo.
No I don't. I am usually there with at least one teammate at the jump.
2) You just ignore Power Ammo in general.
Nope. I am either picking it up, or covering someone who is there picking it up.
3) You use grenades too liberally.
Nope. Depending on my subclass I use them differently. For example, arcbolts are great of someone is absolute around a corner/behind cover. Spike/voidball (whatever they are called) are awesome to cut off a path to an objective. Stickies, however, are just garbage now.
4) You suck at melee.
Don't bother with them unless someone is already absolute. This 3 melee kill bs is quite annoying.
5) Team-fire is best fire.
It is also boring gameplay wise. Just saying...
6) Know your game mode.
No shit... Honestly, this is all stuff that is common sense. I get it, you are trying to educate and whatnot, but the real problem here is that none of this is really exciting to play anymore. It is not exciting to watch anymore. It is vanilla ice cream bland, man. I use to watch streamers go 1v3/2v3 to the Lighthouse, and see cool plays and whatnot. I was watching Luckky and BW go 2v4 the other day, and all they were doing is getting a kill, and then running away from the fight to ensure a round win, running out the timer most rounds. It is an absolute snoozefest.

I never suck at Crucible in D2. I defy anyone to prove me wrong.

Nothing to see here. Just a sweaty tryhard who's probably a basement dweller.

Actually, if you have a hand cannon like better Devils, you can hip fire, and then punch instantly after, and I normally kills them quickly.

7 RepliesWhy you (probably) suck at crucible: you remember how much fun you had playing crucible at some era in D1, and you try to play that way, but nobody else does
