Yep. It's a PR technique called "dated outrage".
It is done to nullify and invalidate the angry group, so the masses ignore them.
It works like this:
1. The players are mad.
2. The media reports on it and it puts the brand in a negative light.
3. The company makes changes so the media has to report "Bungie made changes".
4. Now, when people are mad, the supporters say "are you still mad about that? They made changes, stop whining!"
Bungie is hoping that the media is too lazy to go back and follow up in the changes, and won't point out that the changes didn't actually fix the root causes.
5. The players point out the changes were superficial and actually fixed nothing, but are disregarded and ignored by the fan boys as "disgruntled, spin foil hat crazies".
6. The core players get frustrated and eventually leave and stop complaining.
7. The average casual ignorant consumer says "Destiny huh? I heard there was some drama, but then I heard they made changes" and buys the game.
8. 30 hours later that new customer realizes how shallow destiny 2 is, and a new angry customer is born.
9. Bungie doesn't care because they just made a new sale.
You'd be amazed by how often this tactic works in business and politics.
The end result though is a slow death. The best of Bungie get frustrated and leave to work elsewhere. The core fans and customers leave to pay other games and the franchise slowly dies.
The bungie today, is not the same bungie that made halo.

1 ReplyYou went a bit overboard on a technique experts call "making shit up".

4 RepliesI’m surprised at how ignorant people are to the fact that everything on the Internet is timestamped. If you are below the age of 18, I apologize... But you’re lying, you are making shit up. There is no technique in PR called “dated outrage”. There is no PR model that’s based around fanboys oppressing you. Remember this when you go to criticize Bungie for lying or misrepresenting things

You are an idiot.

2 RepliesSo, your position is that companies make faulty products, make changes to said product that have nothing to do with it's faults, repeat this behaviour over time, and still somehow stay in buisness? Logic isn't your strong suit, is it?

I knew this was complete nonsense from the title. Yet I still wasted my time reading it. Congrats.

7 RepliesEdited by FromNowOn: 12/3/2017 1:02:20 AMLmfao you put "dated outrage" in quotes like it's an actual term... A simple Google search reveals it's actually nothing and doesn't exist outside of this post... I agree with what you're saying - but why are you trying to make it sound like this is some calculated textbook "PR technique"? This is simple damage control and you're reading waaaaay too much into it.

1 ReplyClassic Trump tactics! Can be applied to anything!

1 ReplyEdited by Corrick II: 12/2/2017 6:59:56 AMSo... wait a minute. Let me see if I have this straight. A company makes a mistake. People complain. The company makes a change to fix it... ... and that's now a bad thing? This little scenario of yours unfortunately disregards the reality of game development. Sorry your PR-labeling geniuses didn't think of that. You know... you keep complaining about everything and they'll probably just stop giving a shit if only to maintain their own sanity. This community is a schizo train wreck.

This is exactly what they are doing. They have already sold as many season passes as they need, so they do not have to do too much more until the first TTK/ROI style update further down the line. Do you hear them saying that these changes will take time? My guess is they will miraculously come together around the time of the first paid expansion outside of the season pass, if not just before. It does not take time to deliver the content, remember how they said that they had new systems in place to release content at an increased rate... So, why would it suddenly take longer to release content? The reason that it will take longer, is because they want the fuss to die down first. There is no point making content that will get tainted like the base game, even if it improves the game. They will placate sections of the fanbase with 'wishlist' style game updates, which will start generating a buzz ready for the first paid expansion. Follow the money trail, that is what Destiny is developed along.

30 hours? damn thats a long time. I beat wolfenstein 2 in 9 hours and that game was great.

3 RepliesEdited by THE CHEESE SHOP: 12/2/2017 2:05:15 PMBDF is out in full force here. How about this? If you are truly confident in your beliefs and abilities, nobody can get under your skin; you know you’re right. If all this suck-up/trash talking is upsetting you, it’s because you see the validity of that post and it contradicts your current beliefs/abilities. When someone is upset with the game, BDF boys come’a’runnin, “DELETE YOUR CHARACTERS”. And when someone appreciates the game, trolls come out the darkness, “BUNGIE FANBOY, STOP GIVING BUNGIE HJs”. Thusly nothing ever gets done. Do I still play? Yes occasionally. Am I going to purchase CoO? No dice. Will I continue to play D2? More than likely (unless I need the DLC to do patrols and PE), but like the majority of people, my interest has been tapering off since its release. Bungie had their chance to listen, they had 3 years... we wanted this game to be great, and this is what we got?

funny how you say it is a sale technique, but a quick Google of "dated outrage" and.....
this thread is top of the list.
14 Repliesso what you're saying, is, that bungie should just not communicate with us at all, otherwise it might look like they're trying to trick us? what. i haven't been part of D1 for that long, mainly because i'm not that big of a console gamer, but imagine that game would've never changed past the initial vanilla release. i know for sure people would've left, but instead, i have friends which played D1 for thousands of hours because they improved on the initial piece of crap that D1 was. same goes for FFXIV.everyone that bought that game day one (i'm talking 1.0 here) or even played it from the alpha going on, knows what kind of a shitfest it was, and i do well remember all the drama and hate on their forums. look at it now, it's one of the most famous MMORPGs, simply because they didn't give up on it. Bungie comes late with their communication, but that doesn't ultimately means that they're only doing it now to calm us down, maybe they've just been too slow on their part. anyways, updates take a while to work out, you can't change a game completely in a day and certainly it won't go back to how it was in D1, but that doesn't mean it can't improve to a point where it can actually be more enjoyable. but if you're set on hating something, i guess you'll stay blind to facts. if you don't want to give bungie a chance, that's your choice, but don't call their attempt to work on the game a PR gag, if in fact, you don't know the truth. i mean, you can always sit back and wait for a few months and check back after to see what has improved or what hasn't. or you can keep on raging.

7 RepliesSo, basically every developer who's ever messed up and fixed things was planning it all along and just using a PR tactic? Seems a bit farfetched (and not to mention ridiculously cynical) to me. Destiny 2 has a LOT of issues, but I've come to realize the players will NEVER be happy. They could fix every little issue the community has and they'd still find something to complain about. It was like that in D1 as well. Everyone here keeps talking about how great the game wad compared to D2... Yet when you look back at posts on the game, even after RoI, its nothing but people bitching about things. But I shouldn't be surprised. I remember all the flak Modern Warfare 3 got from players when it came out. Then the next game was released and suddenly it was the holy grail. And its been like that with every iteration of CoD since then. The previous game was always better and the current one is trash.

This would be on the dot if the forum attitude reflected the state of the game. I've been lurking around here since ODST days. Things have never changed. If you aren't pleased with the state of the game, then do the only thing that actually matters, and vote with your wallet. Already bought the game? Maybe you should work on becoming a better consumer that researches what they buy. Nobody forces you to buy a game on launch. This is the age of the internet. If you act intelligently, you can find all the information you ever want about any purchase you could ever make. Stop trying to heft blame away from yourselves and accept that you made a mistake buying this game. I know I don't. I've already gotten my moneys worth from the game, and it will continue to be a source of entertainment for me. It's a shame you can't say the same.

They are a bunch of idiots who listen to people who shouldn't even be famous cause of this game.

Edited by Kind of Mind: 12/2/2017 6:13:22 AMIts pretty obvious by now that bungie works to hide things and conceal whats really going on. Destiny 2 sux and they still advertise and market it like it doesnt. That should say everything. The game will not get better like i originally thought D2 would be. No matter what so called "updates" roll out. You can fool me 10 times bungie but not 11 !
-
Edited by RingersCheckmate: 12/2/2017 12:59:37 AMI like that you’re talking about these changes in past tense, like we’ve already had them. This is more of a “Bungie we need some communication you’re being silent” and Bungie tells us their plans, then the community goes on to criticize it because it’s not Destiny 1.
