• Because they are part of the Covenant Empire. Brutes and Elites typically dont fight together and the Elites were leading the fleet on Halo CE.

 • As others have said, Elites and Brutes never got along... so when the future Arbiter took his fleet to Halo in his chase of the Pillar of Autumn, there were obviously no Brute-manned vessels within his station. In Contact Harvest, the Brutes were one of the first races of the Covenant that humans came in physical contact with (second to the Jackals)

 • Brutes were known to be in the Covenant 27 years before the Halo Reach events. Some of you will know that the war started on Contact Harvest. And Tartarus challenges Maccabeus(his uncle) for control of the Jiralhanae pack. So kills him.

 • Well for one Brutes do no longer occupy the same niche as Elites. Which was a mistake in previous Halo's. Two Brute's weren't in CE because only one (Or two I can't remember so far back :(.)Covenant Ship followed the pillar of autumn to Halo. Seeing as Elites and Brutes don't work particularly well together, they aren't on the same ship. Thus no Brutes in Halo CE.

 • Because they were on Reach, and makes good enemies? Just because no one saw them, or no one believed the guy who did, doesn't mean they were not there...

 • New games often feature new enemies. Bungie needed some and invented Brutes/Drones after H2. To make the hole thing make sense with H1 those enemies had to be there (since little to no time is between h1 and h2) but just not on the ring, or MC simply didn't met them. So they are in Reach, for some strange reason they were not on the ring/chief never saw them. It's a video game -.-

 • just another cannon hole. they weren't in fall of reach and they weren't even seen by spartans until first strike. (set in 2552) and even then, they had no armor which carried into halo 2 where they also had no armor. then 3 comes out and they do which makes sense since their posistion was high up again and they replaced the elites. but then halo wars and contact harvest rewrote and screwed everything up. this info comes from http://halo.wikia.com/wiki/Jiralhanae which was gathered from all the various sources you need. these plot holes are probably why they are reprinting all of the books.

 • The armada present in Halo CE was an Elite armada not a brute armada. Also Jackals and Brutes were the first aliens humanity made contact with on Harvest. The fact that they weren't in Halo CE is purely circumstantial. Brutes have technically been around the longest in humanities fight for survival.

 • It actually does make a lot of sense fictionally. Brutes were the first main race of the Covenant to be encountered by humans. I can't wait to fight a Brute Chieftain and Elite Shipmaster simultaneously in Firefight :D It's going to be all kinds of epic!!!

 • didnt only a single covenant cruiser follow the Poa to halo? and there were no brute on the elite cruiser because grunts canonically outrank brutes.

 •
Posted by: TheEndofAce Brutes were a part of the Covenant for a long time before the series. Therefore, they can be in Reach. Brutes were not prominent until Halo 2 of course.
• Maybe because the brutes weren't high up in the Covenant in Halo CE, they weren't trusted enough to be sent to Halo?

 • Bungie probably felt that since this was the last Halo game by them and meant to be a huge turning point in the Halo Universe it would be prudent to add all the Covenant species. I wish they looked like Halo 2's Brutes though.

 • *Breaks out nerd glasses* I think the brutes joined the covy in like 2496 and glassed harvest in 2525 so they could definately be in Reach canonically. (spelling fail?) [Edited on 08.28.2010 3:02 PM PDT]
