Would have more options but not allowed. I'm all for straight piped 4 cylinders, those things can sound nice. V10s can also sound pretty good but I don't really like lambo v10s.

  • The Lambo V10 is the same one in the R8, right? Because those sound pretty sweet. Not too many people have Lamobrghinis around me, I see more Ferraris and McLarens.

I’ve ridden in all of the 458 model years, and a 2015 speciale (V8’s), a ‘17 Aventador (V10), a ‘07 599 GTB (V12), a ‘12 F12 (V12), and a few others. Honestly, my personal favorite has been the 2015 speciale. I think the loudest was probably the ‘07 599, while the Aventador was really sharp. The sound of the speciale had just the perfect balance of low and high pitches, where you could feel it when it’s idle around you, but it’s not overly obtrusive. Something to marvel at, but not be annoyed with. I’m not really a gear head though. All I know is that from a physical standpoint, the amount of cylinders should probably only have an affect on the intensity of the sound, where as the actual pitch should be produced by how the air and fuel flows through the engine. Correct me if I’m mistaken, I really don’t know anything about car mechanics. Though I will say, my personal favorite car I’ve ever ridden in is the 4 door Bentley Continental. It’s just so luxurious. The -blam!-ing seats give you a massage fam. You can’t hear a damn thing from the outside when you’re driving, thing is so sturdy. And it’s a big ass car, like, really big, but it hauls ass. Forget about engine sound man, this car is like a luxury suite on the road.

      • All depends on manufacturer and what type of exhaust.

Every engine configuration has it's own distinct melody. Depending on the exhaust set up it can be enhanced or destroyed. I currently drive an I4, but it still has the stock exhaust and doesn't sound bad. Modded I4's or Boxers sound nauseating. I6 and V6 are forgettable. Diesel's are obnoxious. V10 and V12 all have their own distinct sound, but only a V12 at full song sounds impressive. But there is no substitute for a properly plumbed V8. You have the best mix of that V8 burble at idle to the full attitude at higher RPM. I prefer the Ford V8 sound over the GM or Dodge. The firing order sets the tone, and Ford's is more melodic at idle.

      • Do different engines sound much different on their own? I always assumed it was more about the exhaust system than the engine itself. Whatever some of the new Maseratis are running sound sexy as hell.
