It has come to my attention not everyone agrees on this subject so i'll ask, What is your opinion on opinions?
-
As long as it isn’t mine.
-
4 RepliesTechnically the opinion can't be wrong but the facts and arguments behind the opinion can.
-
There’s a distinction between an opinion and an assertion. Making the argument that an opinion cannot be wrong would mean that engaging in the conversation from which the “opinion” was stated in a contentious manner is superfluous. In my opinion, it is immature, and I assert that it is a projection of cognitive dissonance.

They can in my opinion.

3 RepliesIf you can say an opinion is wrong (like saying 2+2=7, or the Earth is flat, or females don't exist, etc.), then is it really an opinion or just intentionally saying shenanigans?
-
Of course
-
If they're weebs
-
Only against evidence
-
Only if it contradicts fact.

An opinion that is backed by reasoning can not be wrong, in most situations. Even if that means that there can be multiple opinions on a subject that are not incorrect. I think, the important thing to ask is: can an opinion be right? Certainly to the person who holds it, but to others, less so, if their perception should differ. And then, again, there arises the difficulty that lies in whether we speak on complex opinions, or opinions on minor things, which can not be backed or reasoned without a pure basis on personal preference.
-
1 ReplyAn opinion is wrong when a person is of the opinion that a false fact counts as an opinion.
-
If you voted no your opinion is wrong
-
Opinions aren’t as simple as yes/no. They are simple, but have more variation. Perspective has a lot to do with it. “Red is the best color” would be correct to those who hold that opinion, but incorrect to those that don’t. But neither view would be supported factually.
-
Depends if your opinion is based in reality. For example, you think that the 'gay agenda' is to turn everyone gay, an incorrect opinion based on a total lack of understanding of the gay pride movement. It's your opinion, but it's not based in reality. Some opinions are legitimately just opinions though; they make no objective claims. An example would be that I don't like marmite.

When it comes to things like personal taste then opinions can’t be wrong. Things like favourite music or food or whatever. But this leads many people to assume that they can just say “well that’s my opinion” about anything and it gives them a magic defence against the facts. Opinions can be wrong when you’re talking about things that aren’t a matter of personal taste. For example someone may say “It’s my opinion that climate change isn’t real”. Something like that is governed by facts and isn’t a matter of personal taste or preference. So yes, opinions can be wrong.

I am of the belief that “opinion” and “belief” should have distinctly separate definitions. Most sources use them more or less interchangeably, but I would argue that this is wrong. Opinions should never be wrong. Think “I like the color blue”. It is a claim that cannot be false as long as the speaker is being honest. Beliefs can be wrong and should be critiqued heavily. “God exists” is a belief, for better or worse, and can be false, in general. It may not be falsifiable, but the truth is that either God exists or God does not exist. That is why my answer is that opinions can’t be wrong.

This poll is just like your opinion man

4 RepliesGenerally, opinions should be used for things that aren't objective. Like, "blue is the best color" or "the Yankees have the worst fans" But if your opinion is "the earth is flat" then yes your opinion can be wrong. You shouldn't have an opinion on facts, they're just things you should know.
-
Ifs its an opinion on facts, which shouldn't exist, then yes

It's my opinion that if Pinocchio said "My nose will now grow" it will open a black hole to a nonlinear paradoxical realm where your blood is replaced with Mt Dew, the Earth is flat, and MLP is criminalized everywhere except North Korea.

4 Repliespeople that say yes have wrong opinions
can I get bant for saying that
1 ReplyTCD thinks Kanye West is a good artist, so yes opinions can be wrong.
-
An opinion is basically a point of view. Of course they can be wrong. Anyone who believes opinions are infallible are simply afraid of scrutiny and slow to change. Opinions can be right and they can be wrong. Cry about it.
-
Well an opinion can be “My opinion is that 2+2=3” When factually 2+2=4.
-
1 ReplyOpinions are often idiotic and not supported by fact. The ones that aren't are great and I praise them.
