Hello, I've never played Destiny 1 but I often hear that exotic armor used to have much stronger effects than in Destiny 2. Despite exotics being much weaker, we are only allowed to equip one at any given time.
I suggest implementing an "exotic power level" system in which a character is given a maximum of 4 points. Each piece of exotic armor has 4 perks you can select. Each enabled perk increases the exotic's cost by 1 point but introduces an additional effect.
Perk selection example:
Knucklehead Radar:
⚪ | Radar remains visible while aiming
⚫ | Improve radar capabilities (more granular direction indicators)
⚫ | Highlight enemies in view
⚪ | Improve weapon handling
power level : ⚪⚪⚫⚫
Simultaneous exotic equipment example:
- The player could have 4 exotic armor pieces equipped, but each piece is set at "power level 1," in which each piece only has 1 perk enabled.

- Alternatively, the player could set one of their exotics to "power level 2" (which then has 2 effects); The player now has 2 remaining points they can use to either equip a second exotic at power level 2 OR 2 exotics each set at power level 1.
