With all the uproar, don't forget that NF timers suck

I mean they're terrible. And unnecessary. They are the one reason I don't run them every week. I love all the wonderful polite assumptions on both my skill level and personality. That's fantastic. Seriously though, timers suck the joy out of doing the nightfall. They're not hard, that wasn't the point. I've never solo'd a nightfall, because I'm not a masochist, nor am I antisocial. Oh, and that one guy running through my post insulting everyone, you know who you are, you suck as well.

  • My guess is that when Bungie was deciding on the design philosophies of the NF, having a means to fail the strike was a necessity. They used to boot us to orbit, but we figured that out pretty quickly. The best, or maybe easiest thing they came up with was a timer. You can't get around a countdown. When it hits zero, your done. Unfortunately this has created a situation where there is only one game style that will allow you to succeed. And that is run and gun as fast as you can. I'm the type of player that likes to scope out a situation from a distance and work my way through it methodically and cautiously. I'm the guy who is always reviving the Rambo wannabe. So timers are a direct conflict with how I like to play, and that is why I think they suck. It has nothing to do with my skill level. And if I do say so myself, I'm a pretty good player.

    • I enjoyed them in D1. Tried once in D2. Finished with them.

    • Back in D1, I'd hop on the forums and ask for a nightfall team. I'd accept anyone that wanted to join me. I hated the must be this or have that culture that people were demanding. The nightfall was chaotic and the chaos made it fun. We didn't need a timer for extra challenge when two manning the brothers with a solar burn active. Sometimes it would take forever to complete. Wipe after wipe until we finally got it right. That was what made nightfall fun for me. Being able to strategize; figuring out how not to die while trying to rez a buddy. Being the last guardian standing and pulling the team back from the brink while almost dying yourself. Week one i tried to carry a 235 clan member with me on my first nightfall. We got to the boss multiple times with a few minutes to spare. It wasn't enough though. I never went back and probably won't. Racing against a timer isn't fun for me.

      • I️ forgot about nightfall timers. Hating the timer has forced me and everyone else I️ played them with for years to pretty much stop doing nightfalls. (I’ve beaten them and have the rat king. I️ don’t hate them because I️ can’t do them. I️ hate them because they are terrible.)

Well, it's nice to see that humans never change Open your eyes, let's begin Yes, it's really me, it's Luke Smith: breathe it in! I know it's a lot: the hair, the bod! When you're staring at a demi-god What can I say except you're welcome For the tides, the sun, the sky Hey, it's okay, it's okay You're welcome I'm just an ordinary demi-guy Hey! What has two thumbs that pulled up the sky When you were waddling yay high This guy! When the nights got cold Who stole you fire from down below You're lookin' at him, yo Oh, also I lassoed the sun You're welcome! To stretch the days and bring you fun Also I harnessed the breeze You're welcome! To fill your sails and shake your trees So what can I say except you're welcome For the islands I pulled from the sea There's no need to pray, it's okay You're welcome! Ha, I guess it's just my way of being me You're welcome! You're welcome! Well, come to think of it Kid, honestly I can go on and on I can explain every natural phenomenon The tide, the grass, the ground, oh That was Luke Smith just messing around I killed an eel I buried its guts Sprouted a tree, now you got coconuts What's the lesson What is the take-away Don't mess with Luke Smith when he's on the break-away And the tapestry here on my skin Is a map of the victories I win Look where I've been I make everything happen Look at that mini-Lukey just tippity-tappin' Well, anyway let me say you're welcome For the wonderful world you know Hey, it's okay, it's okay You're welcome! Well, come to think of it, I gotta go Hey, it's your day to say you're welcome 'Cause I'm gonna need that boat I'm sailing away, away You're welcome! 'Cause Luke Smith can do anything but float You're welcome! You're welcome! And thank you

        • Yep probably why I could care less to run them. This coming from an old guardian that used to run nf 3x back in the day.

        • I loved soloing nightfalls in D1 in the beginning when they were actually hard. I would happily take my time (when i actually had time to take, life happens -_- ) and i think I'd laugh more at the stupid shit or accidents that killed me more than get mad about it .

        • They solved that problem by giving you absolutely no reason to run them. ;)

          • Well, the problem with removing them is that it could risk us having fun. We cannot have that happening.

          • I agree. Used to run the nightfall 5 or 6 times a week after I got it done on each of my toons to help people out simply cuz I thought it was fun in d1. Did 1 nightfall in d2 and said nope, no more of that. Just find it tedious

          • I’m all for a much more difficult nightfall but the timer was a poor addition. I can understand it being added to the Prestige crap because, yeah, that’s where things should be hard but the normal one, it should only rotate in like other modifiers. I never sped through D1 Nightfalls and I always like to run them solo. I’m not a fan of speed running thing or being forced to feel like I need to rush. I’ve only the NF a few times but it always felt like I “had” to rush.

            • This weekend i soloed the NF on my titan amd got to the boss with nust over 5 minutes left. I couldnt kill him though. I tried so many times. Might try again tomorrow. Anyway the point is that its not the timer that you dont like. Its the fact that you need to git gud.

              • I miss the Nightfall during the first year of Destiny where once all fireteam dies, we're back in Orbit. That, in my humble opinion, was what made Nightfall Mode more fun. We had to fight together to keep alive, match the Arc/Void/Solar Burn to help put more damage on bad guys and big bosses, etc. Man, I miss those days! Don't know why Bungie took that away.

Not to mention they can be done solo, again, averaging over 100 kills. I emphasize on this because it shows you can kill EVERY enemy while pacing yourself and NOT RUSHING with plenty of time to spare. Again, if a 247 can get through it, why cant you?

                          • I think part of the reason is that people were more easily able to solo it by finding hidey holes and exploit spots and just taking their time slowly burning down his health. But I thought that was a positive personally. To be able to go in and know that as long as you take your time and you’re careful you could solo the nightfall. And yeah it’s possible in D2 but it’s much more difficult in my opinion. But I miss heroic strikes honestly dude. I loved seeing the fun modifiers on. Like when it was airborne solar burn and specialist and everyone was cheesing Omnigul for a good Grasp of Malok roll. Or arc burn with small arms and Zhalo Supercell, and it’s just infinitely melting everything in electricity while you build your super really fast. Stuff like that is something I miss dearly from D2
