He's a nice guy, but he acts in ways that make me believe that he doesn't understand game design, or doesn't care. He seems hellbent on turning Destiny into the next e-sport. But doesn't understand that--as long as pve and pvp share the same gear system---doing so will destroy the RPG parts of the game. But they guy is who he is. The real problem is in the executive suite. He's being poorly led, and allowed to do this. It's not working after four years of polarizing efforts, and it never is going to work at this rate. Because not only are pve players unhappy, many pvp players aren't happy either. Right now the solo queue experience in Iron Banner is almost poisonous, it's so bad. He's created a game that's fun to play IF you're playing Trials and everyone has a dedicated Fireteam and talking on headphones. But that's not how the average person plays this game.

  • Nope. You're seeing what happens when the conversation actually gets down to matters of reasonable expectations, and constructive engagement. I've spent over 2 years on this forum talking exhaustively on my belief that Weisznewski's approach to managing the sandbox, and the kind of PVP experience he wants the game to have are incompatible with Destiny 1s design..... ...and the push to make PVP more "balanced" and "competitive" has had negative effects that have rippled throughout the game. Have they "RUINED THE GAME"? No. Is Destiny now "HOT TRASH" because of them? No. But have they hampered the game (imo) and prevented it from reaching its full potential and being the truly unique gaming experience it could be? Yes. Which is why (a point that the trolls and salt shakers keep missing) I keep calling for a RE-TUNING of the game. I know that the Kinetic/Energy system and fixed rolls aren't going anywhere (they'd require a complete redesign, and Bungie simply isn't going to do that). But you can significantly improve things by getting rid of this ass-tight, e-sport tuning of the game. Buff power weapons. Buff ability timers. Start letting people on the PVE side of the game feel powerful again...and give PVP players OPTIONS in terms of breaking up this obnoxious team shooting meta. Because his decision to deliberately promote team shooting ( admitted to in the interview) flies in the face of how most people actually play this game. They don't play it with a full fireteam of the friends and everyone on headphones. Which is why the solo queue experience in Iron Banner right now is absolutely POISONOUS, its so miserable. I'm getting sick and tired of facing off with a team of randoms, against a clan team on headphones.....who then just proceed to camp in a corner of the map...and then just team shoot anything that moves. ...while I'm trying to grapple with a game that has DELIBERATELY stripped you of almost all the means Destiny 1 used to give you to punish that play style and dig them out of that hole. Right now, the only option you have is a team push...and most times that NEVER happens with a team of randoms....or happens so late in the game that its outcome has already been decided.

definitely hack or bungie cut off your paymet and you turned against them. Because, YOU DIDN'T BE OBJECTIVE OR ACCEPT CRITICISM IN ANY MATTER FOR 3 YEARS GOD SAKE I don't know who you are, but you have serious issues.

  • No, he wasn't. He even told me Borderlands 2 has not enough content and D2 has more content and replay-ability then Borderlands 2. Borderlands 2 has much much more content and replay-ability then Destiny 2 and probably whole Destiny franchise . Which is not an opinion, it's a fact. Period. So, i still think his account hacked, or bungie cut his payment.

Well that constructive engagement didn't last long. As Sols post, further down the thread confirms, I've been calling Weisznewski an "idiot" ever since his first Crucible Radio interview 2 years ago. When I said then that his methods of handling the sand box weren't working, and were never going to work (they didn't)....and they still AREN'T working in terms of making the community happy. I haven't changed. You've just finally let go of your preconceptions long enough to actually listen. At least until they came back a post later. For the record, the fact that I don't accept other people's opinions as "fact" is not evidence of my "having serious issues". Its a sign that I have healthy boundaries. Good fences make good neighbors. Enjoy the rest of your day.

  • There is at least one area we can have common ground. Although this is the game you wished to purchase, I'm glad you recognise the faults present in the implementation of the Destiny concept. Outside of expressing my agreement with your post, I have nothing to contribute to this conversation.
It would be appreciated if you would reply to our previous conversation that you had abandoned. I'm still very curious as to why you perceive libertarianism as you do.
• Truth. This whole destiny pvp esport thing just isn’t going to work like they want it to. Agreed solo IB is frustrating.

  • It was never going to. Too many of this game's player base are RPG/pve players. But they may have been getting pressure from Activision.

  • Preach it brother! I understand he's on the third tier of the wonderful corporate ladder and managment above him don't do anything about it. On the other hand they have an idea that everything should flow evenly between the game modes. As this is the present day heading. Trying to make a battleship "PvE" dive like a Submarine that is 'PvP'. They don't mix and last I checked a surface ship is not a submersible. In the long run the two modes can never be on the same level ground. Yet PvP gets preferential treatment on all balance patches. With small changes to maybe keep PvE workable abilities 9 or of 10 times is changed based on PvP feed back. On numbers and stats on matches in PvP all nerfs and buffs were based in Destiny 1. Always dreaded when one of those this week at bungie came out and saw that their graph on weapons used came up ment a new meta change is coming. I mean when Luke Smith went out to say elemental primaries are being taken out for the sake of weapon diversity. But yet they still go with the nerf a weapon type into the ground and buff a under performing weapon type. How do you promote weapon diversity by only making one type good and making the popular one so bad hardcore PvP players abanondon it? That's not balancing the game that's just creating a new meta that will need fixing next. It is just wasting an entire department to just constantly chasing it's own tailinstead, instead of working on the next new content to be balanced for their respective game modes. How they day making content for Destiny is hard and takes time. Well take a look at the state of one department. Its chasing a revolving door around never getting any where. Wasting time creating future problems with meta weapons.

"Nice guy" or not KG, this guy is way out of touch with what he believes in and what would make this game alot better. And he's proudfully ignorant of that. He thinks he knows better than his consumers. And he's been wrong alot of the time. His mentality and how he goes about doing his job is hugely at odds with the overall enjoyment of his consumer base. And he comes across as not giving a shit about that. Honestly, -blam!- John Weisnewski.

Agreed. But I ultimately hold the Bungie leadership responsible here. Part of good management is understanding the people who work for you, understanding the job they are doing.... ....and making sure that the right person is in the right job. And having Weisznewski as Sandbox lead for a game of this type is having a detrimental impact on the game. Ironically as much on pvp as it is on pve, which he seems to show little regard or respect for.

  • He's middle management. He still answers to the project leads (Smith and Nosworthy). The project leads answer to the top executives. Both of which have the power to either rein him in, or replace him... and that power is not being used.

To those bashing Kelly- Chill. I’ve had differences with him, I’ve agreed with him, and sometimes he’s chafed me a bit (as I’m sure I did him) but we can be adults. Recently I’ve strongly disagreed with him, but you know what? He wants a better game. It may or may not be the game I want, but he is sincere. I can respect that much at least. This stuff is about views on a game. That’s it. Taking any of it personally doesn’t help anyone. I can the same about a lot of other people who frequent the boards. Try to hear the message, not the tone. We give each other crap all the time, which is normal, but we have to know when to say when.

  • Alot of disappointed people. Someone who actually drives the direction of the game defends aspects many people are disappointed with by stating some pretty indignant and out of touch responses. That angers a consumer base further. KG chooses to defend that in a way, it's open season. I'm not bashing KG... but I don't find alot to defend with sticking up for JW. Dude's an asshat. Supporting JW's attitude is gonna stir up a hornets nest anywhere you go.

Who's defending Weisznewski? I've spent most of my time here telling people that he doesn't know what he's doing and it's damaging the game as a result. My point is that the people who are his bosses at Bungie needs to intervene, and they haven't.

  • To be fair I said "in a way". Saying "he's a nice guy" and "it's really his bosses I blame, not him" is exactly what I mean by that. C'mon bro, surely you see that. Agreed, at a certain point you look past the dumbass and start looking at the idiot managing the dumbass. But homeboy is still a dumbass shouldn't be excused for that.

  • Ill vouch for you on your criticism of JW. U and I rarely see eye to eye but you’ve been very consistent sbout criticizing The job JW has done with this game since ive started following the forums closely. He IS s big problem for them and one that will continue to hold the franchise back until hes given his walking papers. He AND sage merrill can go, as i have no use for their arrogance and ignorance.

  • Nice post. This is what you needed. A thread away from the dynamic duo so you cane make a clear headed post and not immediately get bashed for it. You've always been clear that there are things you like about the game and Bungie and things you done. As soon as anyone supports anything here they get trounced on.
