Let me just put it this way. Vanilla Destiny was a struggle, a real one. We had to farm planet materials that could only be found in chests or spawning on the planet. Running continuous circles checking eachvs cave for a new chest. Did that for an hour or so each day simply to level up one bubble in the progression tier for a gun, or armor. Then do it again the next day on another planet for another item.
We had to struggle, endlessly to reach the highest light level. The coined saying of forever 29 was spread through the tower.
That seems awful. But it wasn't. There was a sense of accomplishment.
Getting an exotic was exactly it's name. Exotic was powerful. My first exotic was Bad JuJu. Which I obtained from its randomly dropped quest from turning in daily bounties. Vanilla Destiny it was not a great gun and there were much better exotic primaries such as Mida and Suros. But it was my first. And it felt powerful.
My second exotic came almost a month later and it was the Ice Breaker, and I felt like a God.
I didn't complete the first raid, VoG till September after finding a lfg team that I still raid with today as my primary group.
Destiny 2 doesn't have that. Not the struggle. Not the sense of completion. Not the accomplishment. Not the fun.
Yes vanilla Destiny was better. It was better in a bad and good way. Even the annoying part of farming helium and spinmetal was better.
