Can anyone give 1 reason why 6v6 is objectively better than 4v4?

  • For me in my opinion, I like the controlled chaos of 6v6 over 4v4. 4v4 promotes a more hesitant play style from what I have encountered. The 1v1 fights that were prevalent in 6v6 are now gone. If you get into a fight with someone they will run away then re-encounter when they have help, that was rare in D1. In D1 it was mono v mono and the better man would win. Or when you see someone and they see you they hide until help comes. It really is frustrating. Double Downs are so rare now, I can't engage two people like I could in D1. The map designs for 4v4 are horrible too. There is no Rusted Lands, Twilight Gap or anything that stands out. Midtown was cool at first but really about getting to one section and staying there. And like it was mentioned before please don't solo queue, you are in for a long night. But it is what it is.

I think that team oriented playstyle comes from map and weapon design more so than being 4v4. I dont remember skirmish having that problem in D1.

  • It is more difficult to have a full 6 man team, than a 4 man team. 4 friends can develop strong sound tactics that make them formidable. However, there are still many of us who play whether our friends are on or not. On a team of blueberries vs a 4 man team that has done well together, the blueberries are in for a long night. Granted, it was worse if you ran into a 6 man team, however, 6 man teams were less common then 4 man teams. With 6 man teams, there is a higher chance that both teams will have blueberries, allowing a slight decline to the efficiency of skilled group with in the team. This allows the team filled with blueberries a better chance and gives the skilled team a better challenge! The 6 man team was far better than 4, for those not part of a 4 man regular team!

  • Less likely to rely on the few... or one good player? For truly robust online multiplayer... The more the merrier is a good general guideline in most cases. Granted there is a limit where it gets ridiculous. 6-man parties just always " felt right".

  • More intense games? Fast paced? Less gaps between firefights? Better use of space? Better objective based games? How's that.

  • None of those points are necessarily true though for destiny at least. You can have a 1v1 be just as fast paced as a 4v4 6v6 or larger depending on other variables. There are many times in destiny where you spawn with an enemy looking right at you, cant get any faster paced than that lol. Your best point is "better objective based games" The only thing i would say about that is even if thats true control is still D2s strongest mode even if its 4v4. Its hard to say what changing it to 6v6 would do on the current maps with the teamshot meta we live in. It might slow the game down and make defending points more important than capturing them.
