How is the Red Legion so insanely big?!
Before D2, I never really believed the cabal blew up planets for fun. There's no way they're that powerful, right? Enter the inverted spire strike, where we see thousands of enormous drills burrowing into nessus. Thousands. Oh and the ground in that area probably wasn't flat BEFORE the Legion came. How the hell can this force be so immensely powerful? How did the guardians no nothing of the red Legion beforehand? It seems fishy that this force could be so insanely huge, and yet not be aided by hive magic and warmoon breeding grounds. Each soldier was born, raised, and trained to fight. Every last one of them. I don't like our odds here.

The Cabal are a lot like the Covenant in Halo: they’ve been around and grown for a really long time The Skyburner scouting legion was a puny Cabal force but after many years of war they still have a mighty chunk of their forces left (I believe some D2 flavor text says 20% of their forces remained after Oryx came). The Red Legion is the biggest and toughest army the Cabal have, so makes sense that they’re so numerous. Plus they all deployed simultaneously instead of staying bunches up in one place like the scouts did We did have a few rumors about the Red Legion’s prowess, but other than that I have no idea why we knew so little. Our Ghost saying “they blow up moons” was a good indicator of weapons like the Almighty

Don't forget how long we were out before we found Hawthorne. Also in game time works differently, who knows how many days we were out before we went to IO. Also for all we know they started setting up there before they came to Earth as well.

Since the Cabal are a war-like race the women probably see it as an honor. Much like how American women saw it as an honor to do the munitions making and manufacturing for tanks and others things when the war took a crap load of men overseas.

4 RepliesI was actually thinking about this today. The sheer numbers of our enemies are ridiculous. Just look at the Fallen. We've outright massacred the Fallen to the point that they were willing to put aside their extreme hatred for each other and dissolved Houses that have existed since before the Whirlwind, and there's still millions of them.

It's not too unbelievable. Look at Ancient Greece with Sparta. They had their kids go to military training at age 7 or something like that and freedom of expression was prohibited. This made them a very powerful force to be reckoned with.

Remember that the entire Cabal presence in D1 was essentially a scout squad. The Red Legion is the army following behind.

The Red Legion is literally the strongest force in the entire Cabal society. We knew of them, but we never had a lot of information, because to our knowledge, the Cabal Empire was still under the control of Emperor Calus, not Dominus Ghaul. They are powerful because this is the first time we have actually seen the military force of the Cabal. Before d2, the Cabal were basically just present. The skyburners on the dreadnought were more of a strike team than a military force, and the cabal on Mars were more often engaged with the vex and taken than with us. So basically, the Red Legion seems so powerful and massive to us simply because this is the first time we have seen a true, large scale, military offensive by the cabal.
