How you can tell strikes are failing in D2

In Destiny 1 I for the most part remembered every strike bosses name, Sepiks Prime, Phogoth, Rockets McDickface. In D2 no one even bothers with funny nicknames because they aren't memorable. The best strike to me is the one in the Pyramidion. There are some fun little obstacles with the lasers so we have something to do while running through for once and it feels like a true dungeon. The scenery is absolutely amazing. I walked in there for my first strike of D2 (not counting beta inverted spire), and I felt like I was in a cooler looking Vault of Glass. The boss even has a pretty cool theme. A giant Hobgoblin that actually hides behind shields like the small hobgoblins do. Sure it could be designed a bit better and not be like all of these strike bosses where it just locks off your damage but it's still cool with the disappearing cover. Other than that the other strikes.... Well let's look at Exodus crash... drive to checkpoints? A great boss arena but is completely wasted by the fact that they limit your damage so annoyingly severely by having him teleport every second. No way he is getting a memorable name if I can't see him for long enough to make it out... Unless I decide to call him Teleporty McCuckhold. Every boss does some form of this. Giant Hobgoblin locked behind wall. Giant Minotaur/ gatelord teleports a lot on floor 1 (but he's not that bad I guess considering the floor changes). Savathun's Song teleports to a different part of the ceiling a ton and only does the cool ball mechanic to unlock it once. Make a more interesting way to stop us from killing it fast. I know that's why you do it... make it super aggressive so we actually need to run for cover. Make some Kind of small puzzle. Make it chase us through a tunnel with the damn laser beams that are in the Pyramidion. Dodging beams, timing, running, returning fire. Now that would be memorable. Long story short stop limiting damage on bosses. Make mechanics that are fun and memorable. And make reasons for people to play them more often like a heroic playlist with good rewards or strike specific loot. I want to remember their names. I miss that.

  • So you remember the names of enemies you've fought 3,000 times over 3 years? But not the ones you've fought a couple times over A 2 month period? Seems legit

    • They are meh, the only dialogue that I like is “operation baby dog”. All the others are forgettable, they don’t have that spirit like in D1. The bosses for what I can remember.... The giant floating rock The vex The other vex (this pun work in Spanish) The f-ucker who disappear every 2 seconds and want to be a ninja The cabal taken The cabal no taken And that’s it? Dunno if I forget one

I can only remember like three of the strike bosses' actual names. - Savathûn's Song - Bracus Zahn - Thaviks, The Depraved - Brakion, Genesis Mind No idea what the Inverted Spire guy is called and I'm on Xbox so I don't know anything about the PS exclusive strike. EDIT: Gonna add in all of D1's strike boss names just to see if I remember them all: - Sepiks Prime - Sepiks Perfected - Omnigul, Will of Crota - S.A.B.E.R. -2 - Kovik, Splicer Priest - Phogoth, The Untamed - Hive Abomination - Taniks, The Scarred - Taniks Perfected - Malok, Pride of Oryx - Sekrion, Nexus Mind (I can't remember the Taken version though) - Aksor, Archon Priest (Again, can't remember the Taken version) - Valus Ta'aurc - The Undying Mind - Kolar, Numoc, and Vatch - Alak Hul, The Darkblade - Valus Ma'aul and Valus Tlu'urn The only other one I can't remember is the Echo Chamber Harpy boss. But since It's only just come out on Xbox and I've played it like twice I think that's not too bad. EDIT EDIT: Added in the names of the bosses I didn't get below: Taken Winter's Run: Nixis, Hunger of Oryx Taken Nexus Mind: Sekrion, Subverted Mind Echo Chamber: Theosyion, The Restorative Mind

        • D2 strikes need some cheeky memorable dialogue . . . "Funny story for you. Remember that Centurion Oryx 'took' right after you landed on the Dreadaught? Then the Centurion and that Taken Ogre tried to stop you from killing the King? Heh. Didn't work. So the Centurion's bond-brothers are pretty angry they lost their commander. They're leading a team to blow the Dreadnaught's core. The core goes, and most of the system goes with it. You're gonna make sure that doesn't happen"

          • I'd say my favorite strike from D1 was the Sunless Cell. Now that was -blam!-ing memorable. A dark arena where a giant knight is stalking you, teleporting in and out of the arena, and you can't really see much of anything? I'd love something like that again.

              • No strike specific loot or scoring or rewards makes strikes absolutely useless. There is no reason to do them unless there is an exterior motive or objective forcing you to play strikes. There should be Strike Specific loot in a heroic strike playlist - even without that ALL Strikes should be on the map with ALL Story mission as nodes you can select and play.

                • The strike mechanics are not the issue. There's just no incentive to play strikes. No specific strike gear. No random rolls on armor or weapons. No heroic playlist with modifiers.

                  • Also with destiny 1 having 20 strikes (+1 if you where on PS) It feels weird only having 5 strikes This is mostly due to the fact there is no released DLC for destiny 2 yet. Hopefully they add at-least two strikes in Curse of Osiris

strikes are fine, but loot system and new weapon system ruined it.

                      • besides nightfalls ive done 2 strikes in this game.. 2.. to get the nightfall opened. Strikes are now a joke and used to be enjoyable.

Curtain Call is amazing and everyone should be running strikes until they get one. It's the best rocket launcher I've used so far and I believe the only way to get it is with Vanguard tokens. I like strikes. The short queue tells me many others like strikes. I really don't see the reason to complain about them. The game has it's issues but strikes are fun imo. However there is strike specific loot to get in the form of Vanguard tokens.

                      • I played them all at least one time, but I really dont like some of them. The one where you have to race around grabbing energy portals, man I hate that one. I dont play strikes unless goaded.

                      • Get hi, play strikes. That's the only way to do strikes. 60% of the time it feels like the first time playing them...everytime lol

                      • To be honest your right. Besides the point of strikes not having strike specific loot, I think the devs really needs to work on The Exodus Crash strike. It is my least favorite and is the most obnoxious strike ever. The Giant Fallen is super annoying because he disappears every 10 secs. Bungie really needs to fix that because every time I get that strike I leave. If it's the nightfall, I don't even touch it. This is the first strike they created that I dislike. Every strike in D1 was decent enough to manage but this one is just too annoying.

                        • To be honest, I think most of us can say that more strategy is required and the strikes are more interactive in d2.

                          • Just one bullet sponge boss couldn’t hurt I suppose... But as far as making bosses memorable, hearing their names helps quite a bit. Think back to D1, how many times did you hear their name during the strike? About 3-5 times right? So by the time you get to them, you are fully prepared to nuke it with rockets so that whoever will shut the heck up about them already. Now, compared to D2? You maybe get to hear it once. And it’s not until you are either near the end of the strike, or when you complete it, and because of the variable dialogue, you might have to play a strike 3-4 times before any of it starts to really feel familiar to you.

                          • Ironically enough part of why the bosses were memorable is because of their bullet sponges tendencies. Plus the whole "newness factor.". I remember the first time I fought phogoth. I went in as a lvl 11 with 2 levels 9s. It was a terrible mistake lmao

                          • They fail once you get Nameless Midnight No point in doing nightfall outside of getting your console achievement since you can level to max without even doing endgame content lol. That is, unless you're just bored.
