Why does anyone like Dark Souls pvp?

How can anyone like it? After multiple playthroughs of DS3 it has been the worst possible thing to happen. I played DS3 (again) with my buddy in co-op and we’ve been working on the dlc’s. Currently we’re on the Ringed City. Throughout our playthrough of the base game and all the DLC’s so far, invading players have always halted our damn progress. You’d think “there’s two of you so it should be easy to get rid of them” and it should but it’s not at all possible. The pvp is incredibly laggy and just completely broken. Invaders will hit us from 20 feet away, sometimes they’ll just vanish if they’re a certain distance away and they won’t take damage half the time, etc. I alternate with a variety of weapons and currently I’m using Sister Friede’s scythes and in our last confrontation with an enemy player I hit him about maybe 10-15 times and he took no damage and he just turned around and killed me with one hit. Sounds perfectly fair right? Then according to my friend he did the exact same thing when he fought him. It’s bullshit. I have an Ethernet cable as well so it’s not my damn fault. It doesn’t seem to matter at all and it ruins the fun How is this enjoyable for anyone other than trolls?

      • Bear in mind scythes only do damage with the blade. I know it sounds obvious, but when I used them I often caught the enemy with the stick part, which doesn't do damage. I never had lag in DS pvp, so that might be something you need to check out on your side.

      • Dark Souls PvP has a high learning curve. Just use a greatsword if you’re having problems, they’re really good overall.

First: "they vanish at certain distances" That's because they use a ring you can get from Rosaria's covenant, at rank 1 Second: Yes, filthy invaders usually are lagging (during my first game I got invaded and died after the filthy red invader teleported behind me, I'll post the video here if I find it) my tip is to always use the way of blue covenant item, everytime I got invaded with that equipped the invader got totally destroyed by them (if a blade of darkmoon was actually summoned, doesn't hurt to try) Third: pvp is actually fun... sometimes, with a good host for the fight club it can be enjoyable, so yes, pvp can be good, hit detection is kinda broken but it can be dealt with it after some time spent in pvp
http://xboxdvr.com/gamer/xBRENOxNOOBx/video/39092893
• Bro, in order to beat a filthy red invader, you gotta think like a filthy red invader.

      •
I have an Ethernet cable as well so it’s not my damn fault.
I love how people think that’s an automatic guarantee that you’ll never have internet problems coming from your end. An Ethernet cable doesn’t do anything if it’s plugged into a potato or your provider is a shady guy in a van with a cell phone hotspot.

        • I hate invasions in DS3 and if I'm ever playing I'm playing offline. I either get someone who is a coward that hides and prevents progress, someone who tries to knock me off a cliff, someone who keeps their distance from me and just follows me everywhere, or I get players that are overpowered and make PvP annoying. I never get anyone who wants to have fun or have a good battle. I rarely get someone who has a potato for a router buy when I do they spam me with several messages telling me to fix my connection. Even playing with friends it's a pain in the ass because invasions are more common, and they won't quit invading.

Some reason it seems to have picked up after a hiatus I gave it. No idea, but it is noticable. As for invis, there is a ring that does exactly that, causes invis after X distance from players. Damage falloff can be from I-frames while dodging. Some people spec into it, giving them a ton of I-time.
I alternate with a variety of weapons and currently I’m using Sister Friede’s scythes and in our last confrontation with an enemy player I hit him about maybe 10-15 times and he took no damage and he just turned around and killed me with one hit. As crazy as it sounds, especially PC, they exist in the forms of the usual: invincible, ohk dagger, teleporting, invis while attacking, etc. I do have a build that is over 600 with a massive shit ton of health and such, and when summoned by low people, is damn near invincible. Hilariius to guide noobs with and get invaded :p
How is this enjoyable for anyone other than trolls?
As said by others, it used to be fun, but the fairness and honor it used to have is gone.

              • It was pretty fun in DaSII, and I’ve only played a scarce amount in Bloodborne, but that was fun. In DaSIII, all the “honor” that was in the older games is gone, probably because Dark Souls became popular, and I get annoyed with the heal-fest it becomes. PvP’s never been my thing in general though.

              • The first time I was invaded in D1 and brutally murder I fell in love with the game when I realized it was another actual player. Love the aspect of invasions and then pvp is fun cause the game is so simple and not made for pvp so it’s all about exploiting and learning all the ins and outs of hitboxes, iframes, parries, etc Additionally I haven’t played in awhile but I think there’s a ring that makes you invisible at a certain distance, got nerfed I think idk what it does now.

Obscuring Ring makes invaders invisible at long range.

                • If they just fixed the issues with lag I think it would be pretty enjoyable. Unfortunately, they haven't been able to do that over three titles.
