And yet, contrary to this fact, you have silenced almost all forms of in-game communication in an attempt to create a "safe space" for gamers. As admirable as your motives are, this is denying *all* players the opportunity to express themselves. This is a critical game flaw on two levels. Toxicity is a problem, yes. It's a terrible product of anonymity and human nature. But what's established here is not a solution -- it's isolation. The first way this flaw affects your game is the elimination of any sense of a community. Players cannot coordinate. They cannot ask for help. They cannot find friends. They cannot recruit. Canned emotes and soccer balls are hardly a substitute for this. The entire fractal experience that is human interaction is suppressed and all of the wondrous things players usually do to make a world feel "alive" are simply substituted with silence. If this is the cost of a 'safe space', I don't believe it's worth it. The second way this flaw affects your game is it directly inhibits players fulfilling their later objectives. We *must* coordinate to access end-game content. Fortunately Reddit and Discord exist to fill this void, but these are just a roundabout way of satisfying what the game should have already provided, AND they ultimately suffer from the very same toxicity you were trying to circumvent in the first place. You may now say "Well, players need not go on these websites," but that's simply not true. Again, there *must* be a way to organize. It's the *only* way to reach your game's final content. In closing, here are two simple solutions that are in accordance with Bungie's 'opt-in' philosophy. 1. Give players a choice between the game with/without text chat. Essentially, they may choose from a "silent mode" (i.e. as it currently is) or a "community mode" that enables all local, general/zone, and clan chats. 2. Allow a simple customization in settings to enable/disable various chats. Local, general/zone, clan, whispers, etc. A player could then tailor the chat settings to fit their preference. Please don't let a minority of gamers prevent the rest of us from enjoying your game to its fullest. Thanks for reading.
