so I did some research with my warlock because I have seen ALOT of devour warlocks and I have to say WWWAAAAAYYYYY overrated and super weak.
ok so first off, the regen effect is pretty weak when you compare it to your own healing rift, in strikes and the raid it becomes even weaker as you will have other locks so healing rift should always be up.
Now as for the super on impact it deals about 2000 damage and the about 400ish (in PvE vs various mobs) a tic and normally they move out of the AoE so you might as well throw your vortex nade
now the other voidwalk spec is WAY WAY TONS better!
charging your grenades only takes up a bit of super and if you like using vortex like me it pretty much turns that grande into a slightly weaker vortex nova bomb with a much larger AoE (great in PvP for cutting off a zone or clearing a room).
next up is the super, while slower it deals a whopping 5000+! and about 500 extra for the projectiles. now hitting most "strong" enemy's in a event with a vortex nova bomb kind of tickled them, using the cata bomb on them at close range just kills them outright!
If you want to be a voidwalker warlock use the attunement of chaos, it is much MUCH stronger.
now if your like BUT I LIKE THE HP REGEN, then go dawnbraker and use the attunement of flame, you get a ability called pheonix dive, this is a crazy useful ability in PvP and PvE more so when paired with the wings of dawn, this lets you dive down and get HP back based on how high you were, this can be used when falling or after a jump and has no real CD, when used with the chest peace you can hover in air and get some hits in then land and get all your HP back and finish off your target, it has no CD and can be used any time you like, this path also makes your flame waves from your super home in on targets (dawnblade deals about 400+ damage a hit in PvE)
and if you want to be a huge support bad ass use stormcaller attunement of elements, aka the arc soul build, this build has 0 downsides, the melee is great as it gives CD and super on hit and when combed with the karinstine gloves you get tons and tons of CD back on hits when when your melee is back up you get another good chunk of it back. as for relics the ones I have found to get the most CD back with is the eye (because its a flat bonus and its always active, no kills or hits needed) and the karinstine as stated above.
so to sum up: devour is pretty worthless

What? Like have you played hunter? At least you have recovery. Me and my boi cause over here with -blam!-ing snail staff and roll they call an ability. I can understand bias, but coming from a hunter I can tell you that the value of something is not recognized until you no longer have it.

1 ReplyI like that top tree perk set and I use it almost all the time. The one biggest complaint is that when I launch that big, beautiful ball of violet death all the players around me are still shooting at the enemies I just launched it at! Most of them die, my bomb hits the big bads, do a ton of damage but surprise; no orbs for anyone cause They Just Had to Keep Shooting!

Gotta use the winter guile gauntlets and weapons with quick ttk like submachine guns and sidearms. Then you can actually keep the devour perk rolling.
-
How is getting back full health instantly every time you kill an enemy overrated? It even works with weapon kills once you've got devour active

yeah not dying is overrated as -blam!-

Your doing it wrong

Edited by Crow: 11/8/2017 9:32:23 AMfirst of all your primary character is warlock which means you are highly likely to be biased towards it which clearly shows in how you try to convince others with vague ideas. Imagine using a spray & pray weapon for close range and melee finish them off... better devils is good for this as long as you manage to get a kill while fighting 1v2 you are restored to full and will have odds in your favor vs the last one standing as he wasted some of the ammo in his mag needing to reload soon. Only when the warlock is killed right away or has a bad aim does its value fall but try comparing it with other Exotics which hardly even give you half as much battle value as devour

You do realize that Devour completely regens health INSTANTLY right? Pair that with Karnstein or Winter's Guile and youll basically wreck everyone in sight. Your melee becomes your primary. I love both trees, but Devour is super tough.

Devour + Winters Guile is one of the most fun and powerful combos in the game in my opinion. I play all 3 class's. Granted it's situational.
-
If you play solo Voidwalker Devour is simply amazing
-
1 ReplyEvery time devour procs it's instant full health. Its useful for solo, not so much in a group when your kills get poached.
-
1 ReplySure has hell makes it easier on me in the raid. Doesn't do me any good at dogs, but I never die at Royal Pools, I never die at Gauntlet, and I never die at Calus. Getting Devour going (stacked with Nezerak's Sin and a void Energy Weapon), let's me solo large hoards of mobs without having to worry about anything.

I don't use devour all that much. Only reason why I use the bottom tree in void Walker is for the nova bomb nuke.
