I believe Calus somehow figured how to use the power of he Darkness much as the Hive do, although there’s no way he came even close to Oryx’s level of mastery and power

Let’s compare: The Deep made Calus its herald. The Deep made Oryx its Taken King and the forerunner of its Perfect Shape.

As far as we know Oryx is greater than the Worm Gods (definitely way beyond Akka), although his weakness is his Worm symbiosis and it’s possible he doesn’t have quite as much understanding of the Deep as the Worm gods do I think the Worms are more like the emissaries of the Deep; like maybe the messengers or the “preachers”

Hell, he gives tribute to Akka in the form of those blighted light bombs. Ahh, well they still have the power of the deep. Akka lives.

Akka does still live, just as Savathûn and Xivu were once able to survive their true deaths, but remember his talk with Auryx. Akka lies when he says Auryx was not stronger than him, and they both knew it, so Auryx chopped him up and gained all of his strength and knowledge Even if Akka was the weakest Worm by far, this feat alone would put Auryx right up with the other Worms, but then he became Oryx, learned to Take, and grew exponentially in strength from there

This tribute is for akka, to give to him in his name. Now that oryx is dead Akka Will just devour the dreadnought into himself and be reborn. Or be reborn in oryxs worm. Tho the worm gods have zero feats, nothing that shows they are actually powerful.
