PC player here and cannot land this bugger on all but the fattest targets with more a 1 in 5 success rate much less consistent crit kills.
Is there a trick here?
Edit: Not sure if I was entirely clear on this but keyboard and mouse experienced people are really the only ones who are going to be helpful here.

2 RepliesI'd be better off throwing a shoe or a bowler hat
-
I PvP a lot. Out of 8,000 kills maybe 2 were with a melee knife It’s incredibly underpowered. A gimmick
-
It's weak and useless not you it's Bungie taking the fun out of something. Seems like what they do now.
-
1 ReplyIt helps alot as a scapegoat kinda. If you and an enemy in Pvp or Pve are critically damaged you have a knife throw!
-
3 RepliesEven if you land it the damage is not the best
-
It's pretty good with the top subclass tree

2 RepliesHere's what I found: When I used a controller on the aim assist on the knife is absolutely insane. I've seen it turn almost 45 degrees and smack a dreg on the head when I aimed off of it on purpose. With a mouse, no aim assist, that hit box is tiny and there's no magnet knife. It's much harder to land. Which makes it all the more satisfying when you hear that clink when it hits (This was 3 minutes of "testing" I'm likely wrong, but aim assist in D2 is insane.)

Edited by Jxy: 11/6/2017 5:17:48 PMHaven’t played PC but I would assume they would be harder to hit with the lack of aim assist. Try ADS then throw the knife?

It's so bad!
-
You’re a retard

11 RepliesYou need to damage the enemy substantially for it to really count. Less than 5% health. Make sure you CRIT.
-
2 RepliesDo you lead your target? The knives aren't hit scan so you have to account for travel time
-
3 RepliesIt’s just down to aiming it use the reticle of your weapons to aim the throwing knife
-
4 RepliesNot trying to brag, but I play on PS4 and honestly think that Bungie made it easier to land critical hits with the Hunter knife. I land them all the time and the critical-refund perk is awesome. Sorry, again - I’m not trying to brag, just trying to understand.
*giraffe noise*
1 ReplyIts one of those L2P issues IMO Gunslinger is designed around being a precise shot and the knife is very potent if used well.
-
6 RepliesJust gotta keep playing with it and you will get the feel for the arc and judging trajectory. Another tip: look up true vanguard and watch his videos, he is fantastic with them, the biggest tip he gives is jump above the target and throw the knife down, when your above him his head becomes the biggest hit box making it far easier to land your crits, unfortunately in pvp you have to prime players as throwing knives are not 1 hit kills, so put a couple bullets into them first, hand cannons used to be best for this as they are more mobile so you can headshot, jump, throwing knife from above, kill gives you another knife, hope that helps :)

I've gone on a 4 throwing-knife kill streak in D1.
Forgot to record it....
But it takes lots of practice and lots of skill to use them
-
Practice. I was a hunter main in d1 and played with the knife a lot. In pvp, it’s all about hitting the head for quick dps. It’s not as useful in pve though
-
only use in PVE( till you git gud with it) and hit em in the head
-
4 Replies
So is the hunter borderline useless or am I just wildly incompetent?
Yes.
-
A Gunslinger throwing knife is one of the hardest things to hit with in the game. Especially in PVP.
-
Honestly, just practice. I've gotten to the point where I'm hitting crits in PvP by throwing over rocks at guardians that I can't see. But I've played a ton of hours on a gunslinger. It's just getting used to the travel time and flight pattern.

6 RepliesPractice against dregs in the EDZ as they are plentiful. Also, try practicing in the crucible. The speed and randomness of human movement should help your aim and reaction time.
-
You just need to practice, it will be second nature
