Edit: Added Randal
All those saying Ghaul is strong and not weak, the traveller fears Oryx and the Hive and others aligned to the darkness. Ghaul wasn't even that. And besides if we hadn't killed him the traveler would have just blown him up anyway.
So what, he got to the traveler and for a brief moment starved us of our light, but let's face it.....
Atheon - Time travelling manipulator of reality
Crota - Son of a Hive God, invincible but for his sword, slaughtered hundreds of guardians. Thousands of years old
Oryx - A God personally gifted power by the Deep. Can only be killed in his own realm. Can take the Will of enemies to fight for him
Aksis - Bio enginered overlord of death and destruction. Can self replicate and change others
Calus - Has a massive planet eating ship. True leader of the Cabal has thousands of other versions of himself.
Skolas - Meanest mofo the galaxy has ever seen. Even the Nine are afraid of him. (Actually hardest boss in Destiny pre nerf).
Ghaul - Pissed off space turtle with a grudge against humanity, has a an army.
Randal the Vandal - Eats gjallarhorns for breakfast and craps over all who dares kill his pet shank.
It's not Canon I know, but really our enemies need to be a bit more threatening.

The traveler wouldn’t have blown him away since us killing him caused the traveller to awaken towards the end of the campaign

1 ReplyCan’t argue with that. Overall I feel that Vanilla Destiny 2 has a stronger story than Vanilla Destiny 1, but there has always been something very simplistic and small scale about Destiny 2’s narrative. Despite the destruction of the Tower, Gaul never, ever felt truly threatening ( at least not on a galactic scale ). Bungie’s attempt to flesh out his character and make him more interesting backfired and instead Ghaul comes off as being a scared, insecure individual who desperately needs re-assurance that he’s “special”.
-
You forgot the most vile of them all.......
The Architects
-
1 ReplyWhilenGhaul may have been the weakest he’s the only enemy that even came close to succeeding.
-
It’s ironic that of the gods and monsters we’ve faced, a disgraced albino space turtle was the only one who could actually reduce us to rubble and ashes
-
U forgot urzok
-
7 RepliesOryx should've been the main antagonist of d2, he should've annihilated the tower and whatnot. With all his lore about him and his conquest, I feel he was used way too early and quickly.
-
1 ReplyI mean, at least Bungie have us a boss battle to end a campaign...... reminded me of battling Tartar Sauce in Halo 2 actually.
-
3 RepliesNow if we faced the pure energy version of Ghaul, then we might have a true villain there. Who knows, they’re adding more raid content on December. I just wished we fought Ghaul instead of the Emperor. I think for lore’s sake they made us discover the Emperor.

2 RepliesEdited by Entytie: 11/3/2017 2:41:49 PMAs far as what impact they actually had on the story, I think Atheon and Aksis were the weakest by far. We had absolutely no background or build-up to them at all, they were just sort of sitting there at the end of the raid and we killed them, no context at all. At least Ghaul like, accomplished something. He actually messed us up, even if only temporarily. That's more than Atheon or Aksis did. I think we're going to see more of Calus in the future, though I'm not sure exactly what role he's going to play
-
5 RepliesHe's certainly no Celebrant of Oryx, that's for sure. Celebrant of Oryx > Randal.
-
I miss encounters like skolas on destiny .
-
1 ReplyThe horror of pre nerf Skolas... I get chills.
-
Crota is BILLIONS of years old
-
4 RepliesI was explaining boss fights to another player the other day. ..Ghaul came up. Never in a destiny endgame fight have I ever laughed so much, but it wasn't a fun encounter...I was laughing at him trying to storm call me and nova bomb me. The fight was so bad...I thought any minute now this is going to get real...but it didn't. It was embarrassing how stupidly easy it was. At the end I just sat there and thought...was that it?
-
3 RepliesHe had some power potential after we beat him and he turned into some light volcano lava waterfall thing, but then the traveler just wiped him out in two seconds. I’d be fine with it if it actually added something to the story, but it didn’t. The traveler is still floating there and we still don’t know shit about what the -blam!- is going on. They completely wasted what could have been a decent villain.
-
42 RepliesSkolas with no burn was hardest..... god damn defusing mines
-
Well I for one thought it was a nice change from the usual anonymous, cliched space gods we’ve been fighting for the last three years. I honestly couldn’t tell you the backstory or dialogue of any of the D1 bad guys. I don’t even really know why I was fighting them. At least I knew why I was fighting ghaul and learnt a bit about his motivations and backstory. Sure that made him more “human” and a little less of a “giant space god” but is that really a bad thing? Not every villain needs to be the same. Variety is good.
-
What about the vex gloop god we faced? The ghost was so scared only to have us solo it. Ghaul shouldn't have been a boss in the story, but the raid boss.
-
I think the main problem with Ghaul (as you stating) was that our defeat of him was pointless.
-
3 RepliesCalus amd Gaul were both trash. When the cabal semt an sos from the dreadnought all the way to the emperor, I thought "Ooooh shit." Little did I know it would turn out to be cosplay of Hedonismbot from Futurama.
-
Atheons power only works in the vault
-
Ghaul was just smarter than previous bosses. He attacked when it was least expected. However, it was his honor that took him down.
-
well of course Ghaul is the weakest. you beat him in a solo story mission. just by contrast everything else was harder because they were set in group/raid settings
-
So Jamal the no collision Cabal isn't scary??
-
2 RepliesPre nerf skolas was easier. Melt him with ghorn in seconds....post nerf u had to actually do the encounter.....
