This can all be explained as poor writing and forgetfulness on Bungie's side but,
How come your previous specific Guardian events of D1 are not referenced? How come Saladin doesn't recognize you? Why does your ghost sound different? Why are some subclasses slightly different? How come when you visit Hawthorn she only talks about defeating Ghaul and your clan and not the Black Garden, Crota, Oryx, etc, or how you're actually a legend? How come the Stranger doesn't frequently visit you and tell you new info about her war? And why aren't we Iron Lords hanging out at the temple?
It's because it's not the same Guardian as in D1. Sure you got to see your previous characters from D1, but soon as the story starts, and BEFORE the vaults are destroyed, you have completely different armour, weapons, ghost and a ship.
My theory is that following the events of D1, your Guardian has actually taken on the role of the Stranger in her apparent absence following the end of the vanilla story, a freelance Guardian, and that your D2 Guardian was simply in the right place at the right time. This also explains why locations from D1 aren't mentioned by your ghost, because your ghost never went to those locations.
Once again, this is probably all due to the fact that D2 was already being made while D1 DLC was still coming out, but I really enjoy trying to find logic in all this forgotten content. Perhaps our Guardian from D2 becomes the Stranger seen in D1 during the events of Osiris, with his timeline bending, fancy tricks, and Vex Multiverse? Meaning that D1 and D2 are happening concurrently in the same, but also different, non-linear timelines?

Literally the first thing Shaxx says when he speaks to you is refer to you as Saladin's Young Wolf. Also, some dialogue is written as if you already existed, such as the Ghost speaking of Eris to Ikora in some Io missions related to the Taken.

Shaxx referenced me as Saladin's Young Wolf. Checkm8

1 Replyyou could not be more wrong. The new subclasses are the result of gaining power from a shard of the travler. No one in d1 was really talking about how you defeated the black garden either and shaxx calls you saladins little wolf it's the same universe and same game with just shoddy consistency

6 RepliesI can't say anything other than negligence for the stuff I'm not including, but I can't say there's no explanations for some of the stuff you included.
Why does your ghost sound different?
He doesn't sound any different to me. Dinklebot was retconned and North's voice is canon for our ghost.
Why are some subclasses slightly different?
I think they're just more improved versions of the original that replace the old ones. A fair amount of lore still refers to Sunsingers as still existing, so I'm guessing that they're kind of like the TTK subclasses in that they just weren't mentioned until they were mentioned.

How come when you visit Hawthorn she only talks about defeating Ghaul and your clan and not the Black Garden, Crota, Oryx, etc, or how you're actually a legend?
I'm not sure she actually knows about that. She didn't know you when you got to the Farm and lived totally separated from the City.
How come the Stranger doesn't frequently visit you and tell you new info about her war?
Because she doesn't really care about you. She wasn't a character, she was an instructor. She just showed up and told you to conk the Black Garden. You were a means to an end, and like a good little pawn you served your job, and she rewards you and vanishes. Besides, Bungie already said she's not coming back.
And why aren't we Iron Lords hanging out at the temple?
Probably because they're either dead, pacifists, or Saladin.
It's because it's not the same Guardian as in D1. Sure you got to see your previous characters from D1, but soon as the story starts, and BEFORE the vaults are destroyed, you have completely different armour, weapons, ghost and a ship.
You changed your armor and guns dozens of times over the course of D1. Don't you think your Guardian could end up in a different set of armor several years after the first game ended?
My theory is that following the events of D1, your Guardian has actually taken on the role of the Stranger in her apparent absence following the end of the vanilla story, a freelance Guardian,
Nobody knows who the Stranger was, who she worked for, or even if she was legitimately from your timeline. She gives you a gun with parts that shouldn't exist yet, according to Ghost.
and that your D2 Guardian was simply in the right place at the right time.
The right palce and time for what? To be referred to as Saladin's Young Wolf by Shaxx during the Tower Siege? Shaxx references your achievements all the time. So does Zavala. Amanda even says that you're the Guardian that Zavala 'never shuts up about.'
This also explains why locations from D1 aren't mentioned by your ghost, because your ghost never went to those locations.
The locations aren't mentioned because they're both irrelevant and have been taken over by the Cabal. Cayde mentions the iron grip they have on Mars explicitly in one voiceline.
Once again, this is probably all due to the fact that D2 was already being made while D1 DLC was still coming out, but I really enjoy trying to find logic in all this forgotten content.
But it hasn't been forgotten.
Perhaps our Guardian from D2 becomes the Stranger seen in D1 during the events of Osiris, with his timeline bending, fancy tricks, and Vex Multiverse?
But what if the player isn't an Exo Female? Also, Osiris doesn't manipulate any 'Vex Multiverse' that I know of.
Meaning that D1 and D2 are happening concurrently in the same, but also different, non-linear timelines?
Can't say anything to that, tbh. I honestly hope that it is our character, because it would be another of Bungie's long list of lies I'd have to add to.
You Guardian is not the same Guardian you used in D1.
My Warlock's ugly-ass face says otherwise

I didn’t make it past the first four questions, because if you didn’t spend enough time to listen to the dialogue of the game and pay attention, I’m not gonna spend the time to read the rest of this ignorant post.

2 RepliesThey are referenced. One easy search in Google will give you a full list of every time they're referenced and I'm not going to do that job for you but those moments are plentiful.

For sure, my Guardian would NEVER go somewhere in ceremonial armor wearing only a sidearm. Look what happens. If I'd had my 400 light level guardian kitted out for war, Ghaul wouldn't have finished his speech.

As long as the Vex are around, there is no telling what is real or not.

3 Replies...if you use your character from D1 when starting D2, a lot of the dialogue is different and references certain aspects of D1. If you create a new guardian (or play on PC) Ghost acts like a noob and treats you like a noob. I think they did this as a way to introduce new players to the world. TL:DR; there are two different sets of dialogue.
