Head Crab Zombies are still "alive"?
I was playing Half-Life 2, and realized that one of the zombies was saying "Oh God, PLEASE HELP ME! Does that mean the infected humans are still alive, with their chest ripped open and their organs missing?

The hosts are alive. Even the ones that are cut in half are still alive. The bodies still feel pain. They can still think. They know what is happening, but have no control over it. It's very sick, twisted, and somewhat... erotic. Bwahahahahaha!

Headcrabs feed off of the host body itself for nutrition do they not? Since they only have body part (The mouth,) that takes in nutrition. There is always the possibility that oxygen gets to the infected person's head, though I doubt that a parasite that takes control of muscle movement has no effect whatsoever on the muscles around the host's throat.

play dead space and find a guardian they were infected alive and remained consciousness while the necromorph infected them and they will only die when you kill the necromorph controlling them(basically just shooting them helps) i`m guessing Head Crab zombies are the same

What if they only bother to control the body, not the head , or the nerve endings of the host?

I think they might be alive in some form of the word, but the Headcrab controls their bodies and actions.
