EDIT 2: I have found that after either a) restarting the Battle.net launcher, and or restarting my computer - the first launch of the game will not have these freezes. If I then relaunch the game (without restarting my machine or launcher) they will return. Not sure yet why.
EDIT: Video posted by GamesPlayMe below - https://youtu.be/aQzsWjLy2Po?t=69 - shows the issue in action.
Description matches the problem - essentially after some undetermined amount of game time, sometimes seconds, minutes - the entire game will lock for about 3-6 seconds, then unfreeze and everything runs perfectly smooth. Makes for an almost unplayable experience. It will occur in any map, and even menus - I first experienced it during the character creation screen. Otherwise the game runs like butter, 120+ fps no issues.
Worth noting, I've tried this with all graphical settings - vsync on/off, window mode / borderless / fullscreen, low all settings etc. and nothing seems to change.
While the freeze is occurring I noted that the Destiny 2 process drops in CPU consumption considerably, then when the freeze ceases, CPU usage spikes back to where it should be;

Hi, I know this is quite old, but I cannot find a fix for this in 2020 lol. I JUST started having this problem with a FRESHLY installed, FRESHLY migrated from Xbox account. Every 100 seconds EXACTLY, the screen will freeze for approximately 3 seconds, and then the game will resume perfectly for 100 seconds. CPU, Ryzen 3600, throttles, RTX 2080 Super is achieving 150-200 fps, on a 120 HZ GSync screen, (LG OLED) and it is rendering the game unplayable. I have noticed ONE thing, however: Destiny is not the only game. This PC is brand new, all parts except the RAM and Hard Drives, SSDs, are brand new and installed. I did NOT have this issue prior to moving from a 1080 Ti to the RTX 2080 Super. Now, any Windows or Nvidia updates since quarantine started may have triggered something; but the problem also happens in Doom 2016, and Aliens Vs Predator, 2014. Only those 3 games so far out of 15+ games I have played/tested in the last 3 days.

I have the same issue, i54430 1060oc 6gb 8 gb ram and the game installed on a SSD, It started after the last patch. Still no fix found?
-
I'm having this exact same issue, didn't always have it either. It started in October. Dunno if it was a Bungie update or a windows update that caused it, but rolling back drivers and reinstalling isn't helping.

Edited by Dorul: 4/7/2018 1:29:51 PMI am experiencing the same issue as described. This is infuriating during multiplayer matches. Pretty much similar specs. i7 6700K 16GB Ram GTX1070 Thank you Complication for letting us know there is a workaround, I almost gave up on this game.

Adding my name to the list since my game is now unplayable. It will crash every few minutes into playing it. Win10 x64 (fully up to date) Nvidia 1080 (latest drivers 388.0) Intel i7-6700k 4.00GHz 16GB RAM

Adding my name to the list, same exact issue. There's no time frame on when it happens, it can be as soon as I start the game or an hour in. Win10 x64 (fully up to date) Nvidia 1080 (latest drivers 388.0) Intel i7-6700k 4.00GHz 16GB RAM Samsung SSD 165hz Gsync monitor

2 RepliesSolution: another person mentioned unplugging their external hard drive, I did this and it worked, no freezing for my whole 3 hour session, hope this works for other people. Thanks everyone for their help.

1 ReplyI was having this problem too, I made one of those Reddit threads linked in the OP. I tried everything from reinstalling the game to reverting the drivers, updating the drivers etc. I even tested it with 2 graphics cards (GTX 1070 and GTX 1080TI).I manged to make it work now. I just enabled V-sync in the options (144Hz) and turned on Vsync in the Nvidia control panel for every game. If you have a Gsync monitor, don't worry, the Vsync will still sync to 144 FPS max. I've been playing 1 hour freeze free. Hope this helps you guys aswell.

2 RepliesI have the absolute same problem and found a way to fix this. After reading countless threads I deactivated my monitoring tools (temperature / cpu load etc.) This fixed the 2-3 seconds freeze issue. It did not fix the "freeze crash to desktop" issue that i also have to deal with. Give it a try

i've also made a bit of a longer video showing how messed up this is: https://youtu.be/WQd6Ig7zPvQ

I get the same thing and also choppy gameplay randomly until restart even with high fps on low settings https://youtu.be/_yAOvluVlRM

Edited by Apoc: 10/29/2017 11:16:40 AMyep having the exact same issue, my specs are Ryzen 5 1600 @ 3.8GHz GTX 1060 6 GB 16 GB RAM All my drivers and windows is updated Edit: I played quite a bit today and didn't experience this freeze, i don't think i changed any settings either so unfortunately i don't have a fix.

I checked my CPU and it's definitely doing the same thing others have reported, it hovers around 40-50% usage while I play and during the freeze it drops to 10-15% usage. Can we get something better than the cookie cutter reply from the devs at least acknowledging they are aware of this specific issue?
-
Very similar issue for me, but I haven't checked my CPU when it occurs. It happens every 15-20 minutes or so, for around 6-10 seconds, then everything back to normal again. I also notice nothing seems to happen to my character while frozen even if I'm in the middle of a fight. Specs: Win10 Pro 64bit i5-6600k Skylake 3.5ghz 16GB RAM GTX 970 This never occurred during the Beta, and I played it for probably 5 or 6 hours.

I am having the exact same issue, games runs perfectly fine until it randomly freezes for a few seconds. Doesn't seem to matter what I'm doing in game. My specs are: I5 6600k 1080ti 16g ram Any help fixing would be much appreciated because this makes competitive aspects hard to do.

I have this problem as well. I played Destiny 2 yesterday for the first time and everything was perfectly fine, when I went to play today it started freezing from the get go. On my PC it happens pretty much every ten seconds, the game will freeze and (according to Task Manager) CPU utilization drops like a stone. It happens everywhere: in loading screens, in menus, and in-game. I made no changes to my computer between today and yesterday but the game is now completely unplayable. I've tried rolling back graphics drivers, I updated to Windows 10 Fall Creators Update, tried turning off G-Sync, deleted the CVAR file in appdata -- nothing helped. Specs: Ryzen 7 1800x - Nvidia GTX 1080 - 16 GB RAM - Windows 10 version 1709
-
think im going to stop playing until a fix is found, this is ridiculous. 20 mins of playtime today, and it must have frozen 20-30 times.

Edited by SkyCake: 10/29/2017 12:07:30 AMManaged to push through level 14! I've tried the suggestions in this thread, but nothing has worked. Just to reiterate, I'm not crashing. It just freezes up for a few seconds. It does this every couple of minutes, starting with the character select screen. I can be sitting in a menu or surrounded by enemies, it doesn't seem to make a difference.

Same issue here...super frustrating. Essentially unplayable at this point. i5-3550; GTX 660ti; Samsung SSD; 144hz Acer; Windows 10 Please help :(

2 RepliesEdited by enVia: 10/27/2017 4:59:43 PMEdit: Ok, today I had still a freeze - so nor real solution... sorry! However, it still happens less often... Had the same problem (i7 6700k, GTX 1070, 100Hz on 3440 x 1440) How I fixed it: 1. Install latest Windows Updates (yeah for real) 2. Deinstall latest GeForce Game Ready Driver (388.00). 3. Freshly install GeForce Game Ready Driver 385.69 4. Enjoy (freeze-free since 20 hours) Can't guarantee you that this will solve all your probs - but it did for me. <3

6 RepliesEdited by Sanlumiere: 10/26/2017 7:37:08 AM1) Close Destiny 2 client 2) Go to c:\users\<your name>\AppData\Roaming\ 3) Delete the Bungie directory. 4) restart computer 5) restart client 6) reset keybindings and other preferences as you want them 7) close Destiny 2 client The reason you are getting freezes is that your preference xml file contains an error. My guess is that you updated the preferences at some point, and before you could close the client, the client crashed on you. It failed to write the preference file correctly and now there is some discrepancy between the file on your PC and what Destiny Client thinks it should be. Deleting those local files (they will be rebuilt after you restart client) resolves that issue. Closing the client immediately after updating your preferences means that part of the close down process is to write to those files. Hopefully this works for you This is the exact same issue The Division has on PC. Local files get out of whack and it locks up the game every few seconds as it tries to read data. NOTE: I have seen it freeze a couple of times after the deletion in the games I have fixed this way - however, it's usually only once or twice while it reads the data for the first time, and then it seems to not return.

1 ReplyI'm having the exact same issue. Doesn't matter if it's PVP or PVE, the game will just freeze up for between 1 second to 10 seconds then go back to normal. I checked my CPU usage and I've been going from 60-70% while playing to 10% when the game freezes. I have my specs listed here in case anyone finds a fix to this problem - https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/user/Vvarden117/saved/6ybhMp i7-6700k 4GHz Quad core 16GB DDR4-3600 Ram GTX 1080 8GB Windows 10

1 ReplySame issue here, specs are: 4790k, GTX 960, 32gb ram, win 8.1 It happens to me every 5-10 minutes but I do freeze for a few seconds. CPU goes to 0%. Sometimes it doesn't happen for a long period of time, and then it starts again after changing to a new area
