Why sloane?
I cannot understand why bungie decided to go for sloane as a main NPC,
All the other patrol NPC's at least have some unique personality traits or back stories. Sloane is just another 'veteran of the battlefield'.
Sooo, just like our guardian is a veteran? Or better yet, our guardian (if you've played D1) has pretty much saved our solar system multiple times, slayed literal gods and conquered entire enemy races, and yet here we are, following orders from just another run of the mill, dull and unoriginal character who gets introduced by a weak cutscene?
I understand that I sound whiny, and I really don't care about it at all, I just found it quite a strange decision to have someone like Sloane as an NPC.

Because you have a gay NPC in the EDZ, so you need a dyke on Titan to provide balance.

Each planet vender seems to be a charicture of their respective main character. Asher is like a ramped up Ikora. Failsafe a ramped up cayde, and Sloan is a ramped up Zavala. The stoic boring leader. Only for her it’s to the extreme.

Probably because they wanted someone who paired well with what Zavala's opération on Titan was all about. She's a soldier and that's about it.

Well I mean Sloan has been in the D1 lore for a while, appearing in multiple Grimoire cards and was very important in launching the Exodus ships. While I do wish she had more of a personality than just "military commander," she does have lore significance.

Sloane is indeed the most uninteresting NPC. Her role should have been served by Eris Morn since it is the hive planet.

She said she was deputy commander to Zavala. The way I imagine it she’s directing you in place of him, and Zavala is probably busy setting up titan as a refuge

1 ReplyJust as a few thoughts, Sloane is known as somewhat of a commander/officer figure or whatever under Zavala’s command, and considering her aged look she may be another one of those guardians who’s been around for awhile, possibly serving alongside Zavala, Shaxx, and others during the battle of Twilight Gap or who knows, but considering how easily Zavala allows her to run commands when you arrive on Titan, certainly Zavala’s personality wouldn’t allow anyone who isn’t capable to take command from him, even if he was distressed about losing so many guardians to their deaths. I would imagine that she has a history of serving closely under the Vanguard’s command like Shiro-4 from D1, but bungie just hasn’t gotten into her backstory yet, hopefully they’ll get smarter and give more lore and story behind more of the new characters.

If it wasn’t for Grimore cards in the first game, you know those things that were such a chore to go look at if you liked the lore, then we would know about as much about half the tower as we do her.
