In the ViDoc we hear a glimpse of what Emile says in the campaign. What did he sound like to you guys? To me, he sounded either black or like a redneck.
-
He just sounds like a marine or army soldier from today. he gives 150% and doesnt give up.
-
Not gonna lie, I thought about what ethnicity / nationalities the different Spartans could be as I heard them talk, and I figured Emile came from a spanish speaking nation (which one, I obviously can't be sure - it's 2552). Idk, he just has that slight hint of accent in my mind.
-
So is OP racist or trolling?

He sounded black.

I'm pretty sure he's black. I mean Noble is quite diversified, you Carter, the white guy, and then there's Jorge, he's white, yeah, but he's also a Spartan II, Kat, the female, Jun, although I can't exactly nail his ethnicity I'm gonna go with sub-oriental, and I'm gonna say Emile's black, because with this level of diversity why shouldn't he be black? His voice practically gives it away.
Posted by: scott484
Posted by: jackums98 Emile's black, which is cool. Finally a black Spartan!
Well...johnson iS a spartan 1 and he is black
There was this other black Spartan 2 in halo legends. Although, that probably doesn't vount
Posted by: TexasToast712 I didnt here Emile going "Yo DAWG dat SHIZ iZ TiGhT Yo! Iam one lethal ass MOfo!" So I dont think he is black. (At least not a gangbanger)
Just because he didnt say that doesnt mean he isnt black. If you actually listened to his voice you would know he sounds black.
-
I he is Black, due to his voice and name (yes his name is french, but also alot of northern Africa is french!).
-
I think he's black and perfectly fine with that. But even if he isn't, his voice actor probably is. In Halo 3: ODST, Romeo was black but his voice actor wasn't. So whether Emile is black or not, we know his voice actor most likely is.
-
In my view he sounds black. I can care less if he is black but if they make him stereotyped I will probably get mad and try to kill him. My school is full of stereotypical people. I get tired of the same -blam!- they pull of at school.
Judging someone's ethnicity based on their voice is stupid. And he's definitely not a Redneck.
It's not "stupid." In determining the origins of someone's voice, there are multiple factors to look at including accent, pitch, and timbre. Accent is merely a geographical and social aspect, and anyone can attest that certain urban areas have their own accent. Pitch and timbre are caused by many different factors including, but not limited to vocal cord length, chest size, facial structure, nose size, even where one's teeth sit. All of these features are determined by genetics, unless of course we have gotten so PC in this country that even talking about genetics' role in someone's physical appearance is taboo (So now when someone says, "Oh you have your mother's eyes," you can kick them in the face for being a bigot) Now, in urban communities there is not a lot of breeding between different races, so many traits, including the ones listed above remain consistent, thus resulting in common and similar pitches and timbres in the voices in a community. Of course there are exceptions, Chris Rock's voice is high as can be, Tom Jones has a deep soulful voice. I, myself, when I sing have been told I sound like a large black man, but be assured that genetics do in fact play a role in someone's voice. So, next time you go calling something "stupid" or "racist" sit back a moment, have a cup of tea, and be rational instead of giving in to the over protective boundaries enforced by the hypersensitive media. PS, based upon his name and voice, I am going to go ahead and guess that he has Spanish ancestry mixed with urban exposure. [Edited on 08.17.2010 11:49 AM PDT]

somebody needed to replace Johnson. I honestly think we couldn't get anymore cliche than we are already, so what's the point in complaining? That ViDoc was badass.
Posted by: Darktitan98
Posted by: MiniJay97 emile is black. He sounds like cole from GOW2
I hope theres a part where he cuses out the covenant like cole did to the queen. i Laughed so hard.
I felt that Cole's monolouge was dumb and immersion breaking, that it didn't have to be in a cutscene, and that it made his character more shallow, but your mileage may vary.

I'm pretty sure he's black. I'd say he's both, but that's not possible. [Edited on 08.17.2010 11:33 AM PDT]
Posted by: evil_canevil_666 Judging someone's ethnicity based on their voice is stupid. And he's definitely not a Redneck.
Actually no, its not, its surprising how much you can tell about someone just from their voice, I saw somewhere that there was a study where a group of people listened to recordings of white and black people speaking, in 90% of cases, the people in the group got it right. And judging if someones a 'redneck', well, thats jut off of accent.
