If you are a real software developer then watch "GDC 2015 - Destiny, six years in the making" and you know why "going back to D1" is not only not possible but also the reason why D2 was developed as a MVP ..

I’m well aware of the changes to the game engine and that they can’t copy-paste code. I never suggested that. What i did mention was that they needed to use the design of Y3 to build a foundation on with their new engine. Also, I’m well aware of the stupid decision to fabricate a game engine in the middle of a 10-year contract that threatens to eat your company upon failing to release a game every year, regardless of quality. If you sign a contract like that, you make damn sure the platform you are building your games on for the next 10 years is already good so you can focus solely on the game’s development, instead of juggling engine development AND rushing game development.

you know how big egos can easily get in the way to obscure your view? Halo was that big ego and the development of destiny 1 s engine was not monitored closely enough to deliver a coherent and powerfull enough engine to host several timelines at once (as you have seen in rise of iron and the very first mission of vanilla destiny) in fact the consoles promised were not kept so they were, at the end of a six years cycle.. standing in front of a descision : redo for another 2 years min, or trash the story, rehash the game and deliver whats possible .. they went with door 2 ..

Exactly. Bungie's business and development plan is at fault and has broken down resulting in this mess.
