Square Enix did it successfully with FF XIV, but they cleaned house, publicly apologized, and it certainly didn't happen over night.
I doubt Bungie will do anything resembling that. This game is probably going to get a do not resuscitate order. I see it going the way of The Division, and that sucks pretty hard. #prayersfordestiny

Well it was because it was a Final Fantasy that failed so hard and they actually had faith in Yoshi P to try and fix it. Now look at XIV, its basically got Square out of a losing money and now its single highest revenue. Sure its subscription based but even Yoshi P said that they would be willing to have it go Free to Play if the community wanted it, so far the majority of player-base says "No, keep it subscription".

they won't, they are too stubborn. They have shown their tendency to guide the players with a strong hand to how THEY want us to play their game, they even said that many time over the last 3y "we took this out because that's not how we wanted the experience to play out" Ridiculous In an age of open world "Play your way" games, them pushing this heavily curated game was always kind of patronizing to me. You don't see the Metal Gear Team saying "NO, THIS IS A STEALTH GAME!, Play it like a stealth game!" and take out any opportunity to go totally ham and kill everyone on the map like Rambo. That's what Bungie does, it's crazy to me

Edited by GSXHeckler: 10/21/2017 1:23:07 AMFunny you bring up MGS. I just downloaded the free game for the month and this one thing I thought was awesome. I love the fact that I can take my time and move in stealthy. If I'm not feeling that, I can go around in assault mode. The only time I have to play their way is if I'm going for S ratings. It would be a miserable game if every encounter was scripted.

Right? I just downloaded it roo but haven't played it but I've played every other release and it's something I've always loved about those games, they give you a lot of freedom to complete the objective however you see fit. SOCOM was like that too. Bungie is like, oh, you want to sit in the back and snipe everything with Icebreaker? we are going to need the ammo then and then just take it out of the game entirely Oh, you want to get up on top of that pillar and shoot the boss from there? we are going to make those areas inaccessible and/or make it boot you off those areas They are pretty shitty in that way

That's a Japanese company though, so the majority of playerbase has a different outlook from the participation-trophy players of North America. Also, their game is subscription-based so they need to ensure that players always have things to do.

As I told someone else, Square does not answer to an investor/publisher like Bungie. Square has the freedom to speak about their product as they wish and release their games on their own timetable.

Yeah, I won't pretend to know how any of that works. I just know that they feel like a much more transparent company, and I've always appreciated that. With Bungie, and a few other titles, it feels like I'm being jerked around by politicians. The refusal to acknowledge community angst or communicate their plans moving forward (if there are any) is something I would expect out of a sleazy congressman.
