Activision. Smh.

https://www.forbes.com/sites/insertcoin/2017/10/19/bungie-and-activisions-badly-scheduled-deal-is-what-hurt-destiny-2-the-most/ This guy gets it. Activision. God damn Activision. Edit: There is plenty of blame to go around. I see so many threads and posts putting all the blame on Bungie, when that simply is not the case. Sure, Bungie deserves some blame, but Activision deserves its fair share of the blame as well.

  • So basically, Activision put a timer on Bungie to complete D2, but time expired before they could finish huh? Gotta hate timers :)

    • No good comes from Activision, as soon as their name gets put on things they seem to go into decline and get a lot of hate when it may not be the studio's fault like the guy said. There is a reason most gamers sigh when they see Activision on the box.

      • Not only are time constraints a problem but also a lack of communication. If the people working on D1 were not communicating the changes they made and how they were received by players to the D2 team that's not good. It's just weird to me that the D2 team would be working in a bubble unaware of what was happening in D1.

      • I've been saying this for years. I heard back in year 2 that if Destiny content wasn't released every fall, then Activision would actually take bungie shares.

      • Paraphrased: Activision is forcing Bungie to put out a major piece of content Every Year for the next 10 years. Basically this forces Bungie to spread its team thin and does not allow them to work on the opportunity to work on the Great Game we want. Like say; how long Bethesda takes creating a Fallout or Elder Scrolls game. Or how long Bungie took between each Halo game. Destiny 2 was made by practically a different team than the ones who worked on D1, because they were working on it while the D1 team was working on DLCs. Hence why D2 is such a different game than what we got by the end of Year 3. There was no communication. Because Activision has Bungie on such a tight schedule, Bungie cannot actually make the game of such great scope and depth that they were promising and we wanted. This is who Activision is. They are only about making profit in the short term, they do not care about the consumer base. They do not care about making a great game even though that would make them them more money in the long term. Blizzard has leeway because they are Blizzard and also have multiple properties they work on, satisfying Activision's deadlines. Many People are patient for Elder Scrolls 6 and Borderlands 3 because they want Quality over Quantity. We need to find a way to make Activision understand that we are more likely to buy Destiny products if they are of actual high quality and what we were originally promised. As it stands right now they are forcing Destiny to become, yet another, bland PvP focused shooter. Also this article is worrying: http://www.bbc.co.uk/newsbeat/article/41667810/how-the-makers-of-destiny-2-learnt-from-their-mistakes
Co-Founder Jason Jones: "We're starting in a small way to look at what's beyond Destiny."
Well written article, but Bungie is to blame for reworking Iron Banner into that token laden travesty we saw last week, and for choosing static rolls over random rolls. The loot pool will NEVER be deep enough without going back to random rolls and bigger perk trees. I mean, why do we care how many armor sets there are when they all do the exact same thing? Why do we care how many scout rifles there are when Nameless Midnight is the only legendary scout worth having? You either have Uriel's Gift or you don't. Nobody can say "my Uriel's dropped with spray and play and Sureshot." Or "look at the stats on my armor,I'm tier 12 as a Nightstalker". I mean, some of the aspects of D1 were really great...those should have been kept. I am glad though to see an article spell it out publicly though. If that doesn't get somebody's attention nothing will.

        • That was a good article. People need to realize that not all of the problems are due to some programmer or design lead cackling like a mad man purposefully making bad decisions. Sure bungie is making some bad moves and questionable design choices but it definitely all reeks of corporate mismanagement and people in suits dictating game ideas when they are completely out of touch with the gaming community.

        • Just remember that Bungie CHOSE to enter into a contract with Activision. Also Remember that Bungie held significant leverage, as Destiny as an IP belonged to Bungie. Also remember that Bungie negotiated the terms of the contract with Activision. I.E., don't place the blame completely on Activision. Bungie made their bed, and now they're lying in it. I wonder, if given the opportunity, if they'd prefer going back to Microsoft or if they'd rather stay with Activision.

            • You know what. Nobody forced Bungie to partner with Activision. They are notr the only publisher who would have backed this game.

                • Why is everyone blaming Activision? They didn't hold a gun to Bungies head to make them sign the contract. They signed it knowing what it entailed. Not Activisions fault.

                  • Well, that was an interesting read, thank you. And based on the way Activision muzzled Bungie as I point out here, I find it fully believable that they pressured for yearly content drops. It would seem that Bungie's just not big enough, or competent enough with their limited resources, to release good content on that kind of schedule. I'd rather see good content come less frequently than bad content come often. Making bad content just turns people off to your franchise: making good content, if infrequent, will get you loyal, repeat fans. His comment about The Witcher is spot-on. It may take 5-6 years to develop each sequel, but they're always amazing games. Good to get some outside perspective.

                  • Everyone seems eager to blame Bungie for being lazy or greedy. But put yourself in their shoes. Ever work on a project? Especially if you're passionate about it, you never want it to fail. You put your blood sweat and tears into it until either a deadline is reached or you're happy with the results. Unfortunately, the publisher is the decider of the more economic side of gaming, such as deadlines, not the creator / studio. So while Bungie may want to take more time on this project, they are not able to. That is the true tragedy of Activision.
