no, not really. Got it to play with a buddy. I didn't build up a magical game in my head. There was no reason to be surprised by the game, we know what we got in Vanilla D1. I expected we were going to get about the same content, similar shooting mechanic, just a new world. I did't expect them to bring over lots of the things from D1, I expected they would added with DLC as that is what they did before. Also they told us they were going to remove the grind, which they did.

  • I mean, D1 vanilla was enjoyable though.

  • I don't think you remember D1 in it's first month that well. We had nothing for the first few weeks. Then we had one raid. The crucible didn't have much to it, and the rewards from it sucked. On top of that it was a grind fest for resources and to upgrade you gear. D1 was fun because it was NEW, not something we've seen before. I think D2 has way more to it than D1 did at the same point in time. It's just that it's similar to D1 so we've done it before. And because it's so similar to D1, we have a hard time separating all the DLC. There was lots of upset people with vanilla for many reasons. They didn't get what they expected. The grind was huge. They couldn't get some gear even though they did the raid a bunch of times.

Totally agree people see D1 now through rose tinted glasses. Did a google as I was bored at work D1 had so much more negativity on the forum

  • Yeah, after 3 years of DLC and updates the world was built out. The grind in vanilla was really bad. It took for ever to level and to level your gear. I remember spending hours just looking for resources.

  • I no lifed the shit out of destiny from day 1. D2 will be shit no matter how much content they add. It's been nerfed too hard.

  • I don't think you remember how many people were complaining that the grind was too much in D1...and it really was. It was a grind for the sake of a grind, it wasn't to build the ultimate gear set like in Diablo. You had to level each piece of gear, level each weapon, put resources in which were hard to find and you had to grind. The strikes were similar. The only think they had was VoG in the early days. I actually hope they bring back VoG.

  • Doesn't matter. We had powerful weapons, abilities, and speed in D1. D2 we have two weak primaries and lack luster "power weapons". It will always be trash until they change that.

  • unless you were one of the guys that couldn't get Gjallarhorn. As for gear I think they will give us something. Again Bungie doesn't do RPG elements well.

You're looking at one. They'll have to reinstate special weapons and buff all the primaries to year 1 status.

  • Look I enjoyed D1 too. Probably a bit more than D2 if I had to pick. But I still remember all the issues with D1 vanilla. I still remember how this forum and reddit were for the first few months. All I'm trying to say the start for D2 is very similar to how D1 was.

  • I came in with reasonable expectations after D1 vanilla. And it is kind of what I expected. I wouldn't call the game garbage, it's still a fun shooter, just not a good RPG. The shooting feel really good as it's a bungie game. But since I knew bungie was making it I didn't expect a huge story or good RPG mechanics in the game. Bungie does shooters, they gave us a shooter.
