Very well written by another player Eltola4prez. Hopefully you will read by

Eltola4Prez I would like to throw my 2 pennies at this never-ending convesation. For what it is worth, I consider myself a hard-core casual. Over the course of 15 years and literally hundreds of days game-time, I have never considered myself more than that. I've max leveled all classes in FF:XI (and later XIV), I've cleared vanilla Molten Core, I stood by in shock as Rift collapsed post release, and I've end-game raided with top tier guilds chasing after world first clears. But I have always been and always will be a casual. I know this in my heart because there is one quality I lack that has kept me out of the top tier of play: commitment. You see, commitment to your clan, to your raid group, and to your online family is what separates us pleebs from the rest. It's not lack of skill or interest that divides us. Nor is it an unwillness to "get good." The simple truth is, the prioritization of commitments has always left me a few paces behind the true end-game players. And I'm okay with that. I accepted the fact I will never have a world-first and my exploits will never make me feel like the king of gaming. I also learned along the way how desperately the community needs top-tier players. And, I fear, D2 is in the process of showing how very true that statement is. While Bungie is correct in their assessment that hard-core players make up a small fraction of the player community, they have ignored the fact that the small minority drives the majority. I have yet to complete the raid or even nightfall, but when I do, I will be learning from the hard-core minoirty. It will be their clears I study and their advice I seek out. I don't need a game to coddle me or adjust to my play style. I don't need loot drops forced upon me at a rate that doesn't even allow me to process my increase in power before I get the next big drop. And I certainly don't need a game that sacrifices depth in favor of accessibility. I need a game with a happy and healthy group of hard-core players. A group that drives the story and builds the community inside and outside of the game. A group I will never count myself amongst. In short, I just want to say that while I don't feel the frustration so many of you do (I still have so many things to accomplish in a game I still fully enjoy), I support your collective dissatisfaction. I'm hopeful that Bungie will find a way to bring you back into the fold because players like me need you. The community needs you. And Bungie needs to recognize how much they need you too. TL;DR - I'm a casual in full support of the hard-core community's frustration with this product, as it stands.

  • Completely right. The hardcore provided a social motivation to keep playing. Unfortunately now the same people are saying they reached the end and found nothing. It is rather uninspiring for those who have yet to complete those challenges.

  • That was well put. I kind of consider a third class of gamer "the Moderate". Moderates sit between Casual and The Hard Core, the dedicated, the sweaties. My personal life and work rob me on a daily basis to log in and play. I have to steal my moments. Usually 3-4 in the morning til work. I will put in vacation days, try to leave early here and there. But the 24/7 freedom is for kids and the lonely.
