Theory about the Pyramidion and The Darkness

Edit: I agree with the idea that these pyramid shaped ships are more likely closer servants of the darkness than anything we've yet to encounter and are not actually the darkness them/itself. Have you taken a good look at the Pyramidion's shape and scale? Not only is it exactly the same shape as a ship from The Darkness, but it is also of a similar scale. I am basing this off that concept image we have seen of the ships hovering over a planet laying waste to it and the post credits scene. Whilst their identity is not confirmed I think it is generally accepted they are The Darkness. We also get to go into the Pyramidion and it is unlike any other Vex structure we've seen. It seems to have a 'spine' which runs along the roof and it's interior matches the shape of a Darkness ship. To me it looks as though a Darkness ship has crashed onto the surface of Io. What it's doing there or how it got there I don't know, but seeing as it would only have appeared there since the collapse it's not unfeasible that it got there unnoticed. It's obviously unlikely, but think how cool it would be if I was right and we have to take control of it from the vex and steal it to travel to where the darkness are from. Any thoughts? I am not of any grimoire discounting this theory so flame me down if there is.

  • Rifle Gaming has a new video out, in one of the cut scenes of the traveler on IO you can see triangular shadows next to it. I have thought from the start that the Pyramidion was not very Vex like when compared to other structures we have seen (Venus, VoG, Nessus). I think the Traveler took this thing down in its battle with the "darkness" and it crashed on IO. Maybe the Vex have just re-purposed it for their own needs. There is still a lot to consider and it is all a bit confusing right now but I think we will find out some answers to this soon in the next DLC.

  • I don't know a ton about the lore for the Pyramidion or the pyramid ships, but could the Pyramidion be Vex simulation of the pyramid ships?

    • Saying the new enemy is The Darkness is like saying that guardians are pure light. It might be close but it doesn’t work like that. Guardians are vessels of the light, not direct beings of it. This will probably be a race with close ties to the Darkness.

    • The outside of the Pyramidion is very similar to the spire at Crossroads. The inside is different though, I can give you that. The inside of the Pyramidion, however, matches the diamond shape of the entrance outside. If we were to enter the one on Mars, I expect a similar interior. I really don't want the Vex to be a pawn. Besides, they seem more interested in us as of late. They are neutral, they won't worship the Deep unless they prove themselves as the stronger force, similar to how we've been doing that by kicking the ass of anything in our way. They'll find a way to gain our power, just as they used the Heart to get powers of the Darkness. I believe the fleet is the most direct minions of the Darkness. The main ship, however, is like how the Traveler is to the Light. It's a god. That's the fleet's god. That's our target.

    • I think they are servants that are closer to the Darkness than the Hive, but i'm not convinced that it is the Darkness itself, which appears as a single individual entity in the book of sorrows. My personal hypothesis is that they are made up of self assembling matter, and that they were responsible for corrupting Siva, which they twisted and remade in their image.

      • I don't think it is the Darkness. Oryx had to travel outside of our realm/universe to visit the Darkness. Calus says that he reached the edge of the Universe where he encountered 'a nothing' that was greater than himself. He stared out into the infinite void and it stared back, what he encountered sounds like the Darkness, the formless one. Everything suggests that the Darkness/Deep does not have an actual presence in our universe. Another issue is, if the Darkness is another civilisation, then the Hive would have likely warred against them, not served them. Whatever they are, they were sitting outside our galaxy, not outside the universe. Presumably, they didn't know where the Traveller was.

        • They're not the darkness, that's for sure. But they could be a vanguard of the darkness, like guardians are a vanguard of the light. Or possibly savathûn.
