just aiming to put some thoughts down about the differences between our latest raid boss and oryx from my personal lore perspective.
we learn about the hive structure and the deep in the book of sorrows from the Taken King expansion.
we know Oryx traveled to the deep to commune with a power greater than himself.
Calus we now know has traveled to the edge of the universe and met something greater then himself.
I feel this plays a huge role in the light vs dark, deep vs sky battle.
I have always felt the guardians and the traveler represent the balance between the two forces.
to myself this is the perfect reason to remove "the Darkness" from D2, the Emperor is the herald of the sky.
if we are in the middle of a game between two "god" forces, then Calus fits the job.
Oryx has a worm inside him that he must constantly feed or it will consume him.
Calus rides on a giant worm that constantly consumes to feed him.
Oryx went to the deep
Calus went to the edge
Orxy has consumed from the center out
Calus has consumed from the outside in
Oryx has a magic worm
Calus has a mechanical worm
Oryx wanted to kill everyone
Calus want to play games

From the BoS, the Sky appears to cherish life, to create garden worlds Calus states that he will be the Herald of that nothingness which he met. The Darkness/Deep is also referred to as formless in the BoS. Oryx had to travel out into the abyss to communicate with the Deep.
