The Hive Gods DLC Bungie Should Consider

||FAIR WARNING|| I'm going to be editing this thread to update the idea in response to feedback, so some comments may be a little outdated. I highly recommend checking it out regularly to keep up with the changes :) ||EDIT|| If your only comment is going to be "No more Hive, more Vex," then don't post. Osiris DLC will likely feature Vex, but there are sweeping indications that another Hive DLC is on the way, and my suggestion exists for the purpose of making it as good as possible story-wise We've all seen it. References to Savathun. Scions of Quria. The resurgence of the Taken and Hive, pushing toward some unknown directive. The Hive Gods did not die with Oryx. It's very probable that we're going to see another Hive Gods story arc at some point. Maybe as a DLC, maybe as part of the story of Destiny 3, but there are a lot of ways this arc could go. The simplest way is Savathun shows up with her Hive and Quria, and we kill her. But that does the Hive, the Taken, and the Vex so little justice. So I came up with a theoretical story arc that would lead to a far more interesting experience. It's a little roughshod still, but I have most of the ideas worked out. The story opens with Savathun meeting her sister, Xivu Arath. Both are aware of the death of their brother/sister sibling dude person, Oryx. Xivu Arath expresses outrage and a desire to wipe out Oryx's killers, but Savathun expresses concern about the reality that they can be permanently killed. Nonetheless, she agrees to invade the Sol System with Xivu Arath, and the two amass their Hives and begin their invasion. Unlike Oryx, however, the sisters have no one to impede their invasion--the Awoken are all but destroyed, and the Traveler still recovers over the Last City. While the Traveler is weak, the Hive Gods still fear the silent orb's power, so Xivu Arath launches her assault from Old Chicago (new patrol space, notable for being very swampy and filled with maze-like forests). Strange, aggressive, powerful new breeds of Hive (the Swarm, a mutated Hive strain) spill into the marshes, quickly converting the space into a massive Hive breeding ground but doing very little militarily. The Vanguard send you to scout out the enemy--meanwhile, Savathun sends her forces to Titan and Io to try to sabotage humanity's defense and intelligence networks, though they appear significantly less powerful. Eager to win an early victory before confronting Xivu Arath's Swarm, the Vanguard send teams to Titan to wipe out Savathun's forces. During these missions, it's revealed via cutscene that Savathun has returned to Saturn and retrieved Oryx's body, taking it to her Ascendant Realm for study as well as taken control of the Dreadnaught, where she and Xivu Arath have both moved their Ascendant Realms. You continue to purge Savathun's forces from Titan, severely slowing the Hive's progress, and several rare strains from Hive from Xivu Arath's Swarm that were sent with Savathun's armies are killed. Xivu Arath goes to Savathun in her Ascendant Realm to inform her of the failures. Savathun again expresses concern about the power of the Light, and Xivu Arath brushes these concerns aside as weakness, reminding her of the Hive's need for conquest. Savathun looks upon Oryx's dead body, and wonders if the deal they made with the Worm God was worth dying in this way, afraid of death. She reveals Quria to Xivu Arath, sadly stating that the simulations of Aurash were all that remained of their brother. Xivu Arath angrily retorts that Oryx died in conquest to stronger beings, as is dictated by the Sword Logic, and that Savathun, too, will fall to the Sword Logic if she cannot overcome her mourning for Oryx and fear of death. Savathun sends Quria to Io to take command of the Taken there to reinforce her Hive. Quria, however, has other plans. On arriving at Io, your Guardian is surprised to find infighting among the Taken--specifically, those units derived from the Vex seem to have joined forces with their robotic brethren and started fighting against the other Taken and Hive. You deal with both sides and eventually discover Quria, who, as your Ghost concludes based on Taken residue and Vex tech around Io, has managed to use the little free will it had remaining to bootstrap itself out of Taken control and re-integrated itself into the Vex network. Before you can confront the Mind, though, Quria flees with a large number of Vex and Taken, apparently heading toward Earth. You inform the Vanguard, and they conclude that the coming three-way conflict will end poorly for humanity if they do not act immediately. Xivu Arath again confronts Savathun, berating her for losing control of Quria and a large number of the Taken. She points out that, even without the opposition from the Vex, victory had never been assured against humanity now that the Traveler has awoken. Eerily calm and in an apparent shift from her earlier fear of humanity, Savathun dismisses Xivu Arath’s concerns, visibly infuriating her sister. She says that her remaining forces have amassed with Xivu Arath’s, and that she will personally deal with Quria before they handle humanity. Xivu Arath threatens her, reminding her of their need for conquest to prevent their worms from devouring them, and she warns Savathun that failure to deal with Quria will result in consequences. Savathun silently watches Xivu Arath leave, then returns to her Ascendant Realm, where Oryx’s dissected corpse lies next to a number of blank, stone tablets. The Vanguard, eager to avoid another Ghaul situation, organizes a massive offensive against the Hive that they decide to lead personally. The Guardian army races toward Old Chicago, only to find that the conflict has already started--Quria, at the helm of the Vex and some of the Taken, has pushed into the Hive breeding grounds and decimated the Hive and the Swarm. The Guardians begin wiping out both forces, dealing heavy casualties to key both sides, including a key Mind and several prolific Swarm Wizards. Frustrated, Xivu Arath herself joins the fray and begins to battle Quria, severely damaging the Vex Mind. She begins annihilating Vex and Guardian forces, but your character and the Vanguard quickly retaliate in a huge battle that results in Xivu Arath’s physical form’s destruction. Satisfied that they have succeeded in rebuffing the Hive assault and repelling the Vex armies on Earth, the Guardians retreat to the Last City. In a post-credits scene, however, Savathun appears on the battle field and finds Quria. She warps the Vex Mind back to the Dreadnaught and enters Xivu Arath’s Ascendant Realm. Furious at the Vex Mind’s interference and Savathun’s apparent abandonment of the Hive during the battle, Xivu Arath lashes out verbally, and after a brief argument, attacks Savathun. Before her sister can do any lasting damage, though, Savathun reveals the fruits of her research: the Tablets of Ruin, recreated. Stunned, Xivu Arath becomes vulnerable just long enough for Savathun to deal a fatal blow. As Xivu Arath lays dying, Savathun begins monologuing about the Sword Logic and how she never truly controlled Quria, how she couldn’t have defeated Xivu Arath outright, and how she would have fallen to the Light. Instead, she stayed true to her nature, pulling strings and manipulating her foes to weaken all of them and empower herself. She then Takes Quria for the second time in the Mind’s lifespan to consolidate control over the Taken as well as Quria’s Vex. She offers a final goodbye to Xivu Arath, expressing her gratefulness for her and Oryx’s assistance in helping her achieve perfection under the Sword Logic. She proclaims herself the Taken Queen, and she Takes Xivu Arath. Quria, the Taken Xivu Arath, and Savathun are eventually confronted in the raid, which features Vex, traditional Hive, Xivu Arath's Swarm, and the Taken. With this story line, we can effectively deal with the Hive once and for all, potentially creating room (if this is a DLC) for a new, more powerful enemy, perhaps directly related to the Darkness, to come--very possibly, the Worm Gods themselves, come to seek vengeance against Guardians for killing the scions that brought them worship and sustenance through conquest. It also ties off loose ends with Savathun and Xivu Arath, and provides more opportunity for lore on the nature of the Sword Logic, the Taken, and the Hive. Some other ideas: - Strike featuring a mutated Swarm Ogre that is a conjoined pair of Ogres with incorporated Vex parts - All Swarm are based on Hive, but are heavily mutated. Much of their combat is melee focused and relies on buffing each other - Horde-like PvE moder in Old Chicago that pits the Guardian against waves of Hive, Swarm, Taken, and Vex (thanks to thuang168!) Feel free to leave feedback :) like I said, still roughshod, but I thought it worth the sharing

    • I think they should do something with those black triangular ships before returning to the stories of the hive and their gods. Mostly because the triangular ships can be seen in concept art for the first game, and they would actually contain a new enemy type if they used what was feature in the concept art, which showed beings that were tall with long tendril like arms. I would also like to see something more with Clovis Bray, as references to both the company and Ana Bray can be seen everywhere from Cayde-6's backstory to some scannable objects in the warmind vault on Io. Clovis Bray could also be interesting due to their technological advances during the golden age ranging from the discovery of engrams to the creation of SIVA. I'd also like to see the vex get some love as we have seen how powerful their reality warping abilities are in places like the Vault of Glass and to a lesser extent the pyramidion on Io. With the next DLC being on Mercury, maybe a potential raid could be on a new vex stronghold in the infinite forest, perhaps one where their powers are even stronger than in the Vault of Glass. I feel as though the Hive have seen enough time in the spotlight for a while, as they were the most elaborated on as an enemy race in Destiny 1, and the ones given the most interesting backstory. I feel like an expansion featuring Savathun and the taken should wait for about a year and a half before coming, and maybe being about Rise of Iron sized.

      • As I'm laying it out in my head here, your pacing is great, your development of the villains is well thought out, for a brief moment we almost empathize with Savathun and her fear of death (us and the light) and see a glimmer of remorse thinking of her lost brother and their past as weak krill people. And your twist plays out and fits the characters involved perfectly, and doesn't come off as cliche or predictable. Well done, OP. I'd love seeing this come to life in game.

        • How about No? Like, as much as the Hive are a decent villain...no, -blam!- the Hive. I hate their overall look with that zombie gothic style I hate hive enemies in general I hate the Hive, and even though I know another Hive DLC is practically guaranteed (they dedicated a whole strike to teasing it, Savathun's Song), I would be perfectly fine if they didn't make it.

                • Honestly, this was an impressive read. There's a cohesive storyline, however rough the draft is, that would make for some great content in D2. This can open the doors for new enemies to fight, new loot to find and perhaps a unique mechanic; think a corruption rating for guardians against being taken, or PvP (lore-wise) being about those who fight for the light and those who have given into darkness and/or been taken by entities like the worm gods. I'll enjoy stumbling upon your next post.

                      • Whatever DLC bungie is developing, it won’t stem from these forums. They have to work on these things a year, even two years in advance. They have the entire destiny story timeline mapped out for implementing in-game. They have a plan for everything, just be patient. Each race of enemy plays a part in the story. There is so much lore. Give bungie time to develop it all.

                                    • Well, I totally like this, I just hope we can get more non-hive raids/DLCs, as we have gotten 2 Hive DLCs, and 1.5/2 Fallen DLCs. Personally, I would like a fallen or Vex DLC. Maybe some Fallen overlord from who-knows-where comes and is angry, I guess. I've never been great with storytelling or lord, and I don't keep up with Destiny Lore, but that sounds really cool.
