There’s been talk of how toxic gaming communities have been (especially this forum) and its the reason why many developers no longer communicate with them. Hell, the blowback from Deej’s endgame=friendship is an example of this. But let me tell you: all of that is disingenuous. Developer isolation isn’t the effect of gamer toxicity, but the cause of it. When a developer goes radio silent, refusing to address many of the game’s issues, dissent and division will breed instantly. I was a witness to this in Vanilla D1. Bungie’s communication problems have been long documented, and when they depend on their trademark vaguespeak to communicate with people, it will almost always backfire. I’ve said before that Deej’s endgame=friendship comment is everything wrong with D2 and Bungie’s relationship with the community and I still stand by that. It really showed how out of touch Bungie was with its community (ironically after using them as prerelease hype fodder), from development to communication. It showed that, after years of leaning on them to push D1 during its content droughts, they no longer had any use for them. And what’s terrible? Deej wasn’t exactly wrong. I’ve personally forged more friendships on Destiny than any other game I’ve played in my life. But to use that as a way to dodge around the endgame debate was quite insulting. And many more people felt the same.

  • I know it's a long time ago now but I haven't been active on these forums since the halo 3 days and if memory serves right, Ske7ch (think that's right haha) or Brian Jarrard was very active in responding to fan feedback.

  • It isn't toxicity. Bungie has no spine. They are sjw cowards who take the easy road to handling problems. Can't balance destiny 1 crucible? -blam!- it, just take out the elements for d2 so it's watered down. Isn't that what the skill tree is now? Point being, they are weak, and that is why they cannot summon the courage to address their community, and the more they hide being claims of this community's toxicity, the more virulent the community's response will be. Come out you cowards and face the music of your decisions!!!!

  • Holy thread derail, Batman! All that name-calling ain’t necessary. There’s a way to hold Bungie’s feet to the fire, to make them accountable for every decision that has adversely affected the long-term without the epithets and ad-hominem attacks. Scale it back, man.

Everyone likes to have a go at him but you have used good logic there. You've said perfectly why and what happens. The developers of Warframe have nothing like this and it's the same gamers that make up their community. It's because they really do interact with them and listen and implementg their ideas. Bungie have completely made their own version of the game and it has nothing that was asked for in Destiny 1.
