There’s been talk of how toxic gaming communities have been (especially this forum) and its the reason why many developers no longer communicate with them. Hell, the blowback from Deej’s endgame=friendship is an example of this. But let me tell you: all of that is disingenuous. Developer isolation isn’t the effect of gamer toxicity, but the cause of it. When a developer goes radio silent, refusing to address many of the game’s issues, dissent and division will breed instantly. I was a witness to this in Vanilla D1. Bungie’s communication problems have been long documented, and when they depend on their trademark vaguespeak to communicate with people, it will almost always backfire. I’ve said before that Deej’s endgame=friendship comment is everything wrong with D2 and Bungie’s relationship with the community and I still stand by that. It really showed how out of touch Bungie was with its community (ironically after using them as prerelease hype fodder), from development to communication. It showed that, after years of leaning on them to push D1 during its content droughts, they no longer had any use for them. And what’s terrible? Deej wasn’t exactly wrong. I’ve personally forged more friendships on Destiny than any other game I’ve played in my life. But to use that as a way to dodge around the endgame debate was quite insulting. And many more people felt the same.

Deej tried to open our chests and touch our hearts... unfortunately, he opened too many and got locked out.

That’s actually my reason, so me and my friends could play a fun game that wasn’t horrible gta 5 online, still no regrets

I sometimes wonder if Bungie's worldview is a touch idealistic, perhaps even naive. It's almost as if they're living in a Coca Cola commercial from the early 70's. You know the one where they sing "I'd like to teach the world to sing..." Shiny, happy people all singing happy songs and getting along in perfect harmony. Everyone is a friend and all we need to do is hold hands to make the world a better place. But the world doesn't work like that. Not everyone can get along. Granted, as individuals we absolutely need to cooperate with each other to get on in life. In order to thrive any society requires teamwork and cooperation amongst its populace. However that doesn't mean we all have to be friends. Friendship and cooperation are not the same thing. I'm a lefty liberal do-gooder. I vote for the UK Labour party. So this isn't a political point. I try very hard to see the good in people and believe, as Martin Luther King says, that the arc of human history bends towards justice. I have a small group of friends that I see in the real world. None of them play video games. So when Bungie says the reason I should play Destiny is because of "friendship" my response is that's not my experience at all. Sure there are people on my "friends list" on Xbox Live that I play with sometimes to do a nightfall or whatever and I undeniably enjoy that part of the game but I don't play Destiny because of that. I play because I enjoy shooting digital aliens in the head. In other words, the gameplay. Yes I get along on with the people on my "friends list" and enjoy their company but again, I don't play the game so that I can have a "friendship". I play because video gaming is a form of escapism. To chill out, to zone out and immerse myself in an alternate reality away from the troubles of the real world. The social aspect of Destiny is merely a byproduct. It's not the be-all and end-all. I wish Bungie would concentrate more on improving their game rather than ramming the social stuff down our throats.

FRIENDSHIP is the reason im picking up ark survival evolved sooner than expected and not buying dlc for this game

Friends was a great series. But it had 6 friends. Too many for a fireteam. :)

Edited by SERAPH-X7: 10/8/2017 4:35:57 PMI play games to get the hell away from people i.e. not having to listen to the pointless crap they talk about, getting away from the stupidity happening in reality, not to hear people on a headset eating chips, arguing with the wife, letting the children cry in the background, not hearing dogs bark, talking about toking up, drunkards, messing around not getting the objective done. I play for the satisfaction of popping off animated alien heads, watching loot come flying out of the digital piñata and then trying out whatever gun or armor I get out of said baddie. I do everything in the game minus the raid and trials, for everything else I don't need to talk to people. Yeah I'm not fun at parties and I couldn't give a rats ass about it. Deej can stick friendships up his you know what.

Bungie, I don't understand. Friendship? Please, you cannot be serious. For a game to have memorable moments with friends, the game must actually be memorable in its own right. Then you give us such a response to criticism and tell us it is not your fault, and that friends are the only way to enjoy your game? That kind of mentality of zero developer accountability, will make your game into a graveyard. I love the destiny franchise, and I do not want to see it fall because no one listened to the communities complaints. And if you cannot or will not change something, tell us why. COMMUNICATE, there is nothing worse a dev can do than remain silent.

When you have no content with at least some minimal replayability, you make shit up to please your fanbase. This is exactly what he has done. There are not a single mmo in the market that has a worse endgame. Not a single one.

This week: the power of friendship in place of content. Tune in Next week for the power of imagination.

It's not friendship though, it's means to an end to get shit done. 95% of my FL are randoms that I don't give a -blam!- about.
-
Who would of thought that an MMO lite would require finding friends to game with
-
I don't think $60 even supplies 30 mins of friendship.

Deej you should of called this destiny 1984. We all have same gear same weapons and are forced to do the same events over and over to be the same level. This is not a video game it's more like a lame experiment in big brother socialism. God forbid you make a game where everyone can be a unique guardian with their own setup and style. This game is the ultimate participation trophy giver I have ever played. The trophies even sucka$$!

Lol fuk this boring game
-
We’ll see how much friendship there is when the hardcore pc gamers rip the game to shreds
-
Thing is, there is nothing wrong with friendship or making good friends to enjoy tbe game with. The problem is that there isn't much game to enjoy with them. You get your weekly milestones in a day or two and then... Nothing. Strikes are worthless right now (especially when public evens provide a better reward rate), 4 player crucible teams means you can't enjoy playing with a large group of friends. There's nothing really to grind for, so that's out. I'm loving the game, but it definitely feels like they forgot about the end game.

Haha i have none

Alright fellas here's how it works: $1 to look at it $2 to touch it $3 to watch me touch it $5 to touch it while I touch my toes $6 to touch it while I touch your toes $10 for a BJ $12 for an HJ $15 for a ZJ $60 for friends Any takers?

Edited by GrayWulf25: 10/6/2017 4:16:22 PMI have never played solo as much since vanilla D1, if their intention was to make the game more social and co-operative they failed completely Also, If they had made the (obvious) consistency change to have Nightfalls and all Strikes fireteams of 4 like PvP has become, the situation would be better...
