Exotic Engrams 100% arent RNG
Just observed a guy get 5 wardcliff coils in a row. He promptly proceeded to throw himself off the edge of the tower and I dont blame him.
Ive also had 4 of the same item in a row and its infuriating. The chance of getting the same item that many times is so small it shouldnt be happening as often as it is.
The whole point in grinding is about getting new loot not repeated duplicates. I wouldnt mind if the drop rates were lowered if it was assured that youd obtain a new exotic with each engram.
Sort this shit out.
EDIT: This guy was not buying them from his collection I was watching him at the cryptarch.

I've seen it where the game says he looted exiticed rat pack or whatever 4 times in half a second. Pretty sure it's a loading glitch. Sorry bud

Meanwhile, I mostly main ARs; Handcanon and shotguns, and have only ever gotten 1x Hardlight, 1x Sunshot and 1x Tractor Beam. Zero Coldheart (as a random drop). Zero Sweet Business. And don't get me started on armour. I must have gotten at least 8x AC/DC feedback fences in the last 2 weeks alone. 4x back-to-back last week (when gloves were the only piece already at 305) Not only is there a severe duplication issue, but I would also not be surprised if there were some bullshit intentional weighing of items destined to slow down progression, the presence of which might actually explain / increase the magnitude of the duplication "bug"

I just got Orpheus Rig and Lunafaction Boots the other day so I’m done actively seeking exotics. Have all the worthwhile ones across all classes. Be patient, Xur will eventually sell it all.

1 ReplyWay back people theorized the decryption was based on a seed generated from a system clock on probably one of the servers. While the theories never quite worked out I saw enough evidence to suggest he may have been on to something, and if some idiot dev used large time windows between seed refresh that could explain engrams that are decrypted at the same time or too closely together ending up as the same item.

Me too..! I saw the same person got same item 5 times..! I got an exotic engram last night after 4 days...it became gauntlets that my character used..!! Pissed off like hell... They should give us an option...like we can save the Exotic Engrams..When we have 50 we can trade them for exotic that we want. I hate RNG...

I couldn't stop laughing when I saw those messages. I was just trying to imagine what his emotions was like. If that happens to me, I would be F this game. On to related topic. Why don't people wait their turns to decrypt stuff. I was standing in line waiting for my turn and people kept cutting in front of me. It's like going to a Chinese buffet and people don't know what a line is.

3 RepliesEvery time I spam my engrams as fast as it lets you I get many duplicates back to back, with legendaries and exotics. I started opening them slower and it almost never happens now. Of course you will get items you already have. That is the nature of rng, but I never get the same exotic 3 times out of 3 engrams that I am opening at the same time anymore.

You will get them eventually, then you will complain about bungie not having enough exotics in the game because you have them all.. Its a game, there is rng everywhere. Sometimes you get lucky and sometimes you dont, thats all part of the game. If you dont like the rng aspect of the game, go play minecraft where everything is the same lol

RNG in Destiny 2 is garbage. It's not just Exotics. Need gauntlets? Here have a 20th pair of boots. Need a kinetic weapon? Here have sniper rifle #18. It's frustrating. Forever 304 is real.

And something doesn’t tick over. Like a seed value or rng funtion refreshing every 20 seconds or something Obviously that shouldn’t be th case Personally I never rapid decrypt. I’ll decrypt an exotic. Then go do stuff and come back for the next. I’ve gotten duplicates. Sure. But never in a row. Like I’ll get a Ward cliff and then a week later get a Ward cliff after getting some other exotics in between.

11 RepliesDestiny and most other games use pseudo RNG. They use preset patterns that similar RNG. In addition destiny also has a “smart loot” system that changes probability based on what you have. This system does appear to be rigged more towards forcing you to play more rather than helping the player advance, but does do both.

I don't get how people are decrypting more than one exotic at a time. I'm lucky to have one when I get to the tower. On a side note a common mistake with Random numbers in programming involves getting repeated numbers in quick succession. This happens if a new random number generator is created over an over again with the same seed (which is often the time stamp).

I agree with this op. I have been getting duplicated Coldhearts in Exotics. I thought this gun was like a Pre-Order exclusive and now I'm getting them in engrams. Would make a lot more sense if Exotics would drop new/untapd gear. Instead of getting duplicated exotics 24/7

1 ReplyIn d1 it took me 6 months of grinding with 3ocs to get the alpha lupi. It was the last exotic I needed, and the one I wanted. During those 6 months, I got the other hunter chest 8 times, I got all the other chests for other classes 3-4 times. Finally xur sold it. My next 4 exotic engram drops were all chests and all the alpha lupi. Ya, it's def not total rng. But rng none the less
