Is Halo Legendary diffuculty, unfair? Reach?

When I played Halo 3 Legendary, I kid you not, I could barely get past Sierrra 117. But what I hated on Legendary in H3 is just that it was so..UNFAIR! I mean, everywhere you turn, its just: 1. Brutes spraying you with their brute shots. 2. Grunts shooting at you WHILE you're being sprayed by the brutes. 3. Sniping Jackals MAGICALLY autohead shooting you from some random corner in the other side of the map. I want to play a game where the enemies are smarter, and use tactics. I do not want to see a jackal with his perfect aim, sniping me from a random corner. I really want to play Reach on Legendary to see the ending my first time through, but I don't want to ruin the experience being frustrated and yelling at the TV.

 • I know what you mean by the legendary difficulty and the accuracy. I read somewhere on bungie that they'd made the jackals less accurate and kept enemys health almost the same. Apparantly, however, in reach, AI are now much better at flanking targets and sneaking up on the player. I agree that although I did eventually complete legendary by myself of Halo 3, it wasn't fun. I had a much better time on Heroic. I'm glad the brute shot is gone for reach. We all know that Bungie have made legendary a much harder difficulty than it used to be, however. I would have suggested playing the campainge through on heroic, then on the last level switch to legendary for any extra endings. This way you can enjoy the experiance of the game, and still get the legendary ending you wanted. If it didn't feel right, you coud always go back and do the rest of the levels on legendary =)

 •
Posted by: Shrayev Legendary in Halo 3 didn't strike me as unfair, at all. Easier than Legendary on Halo 2, for example (Elite dual-wielding plasma rifles...I still have nightmares). The enemies are using overlapping fields of fire, and filling the gaps: when a Brute reloads, his squadmates would shoot, when they reload or their guns overheart, then he resumes shooting, etc. That's smart, those are better tactics than many players use online. But I know what you're getting at regardless. It can be irritating at times, but the Halo: Reach AI is vastly improved. You will likely still experience some of that same frustration, because the problems that you listed are signs of good AI, but you'll notice much more variety in the enemy behavior-- especially since you'll be facing new enemies. Elites advancing and laying down fire while Skirmishers sprint in and make you focus on them, giving the Elites time to close the gap...Things like that.
Thanks man, I see what you mean.

 • It should be a challenge in a good way, not overly frustrating were you'd rage quit the entire game but that's my opinion.

 • Legendary is meant to be a challenge. I usually play through on normal first so I can enjoy the story, and then play through on legendary for the achievements. I'm doin' it solo too. Did it in H3 and ODST, pretty sure I can do it for Reach.

 • Just because you couldn't manage to take down enemies such as Jackal Snipers effectively and strategically doesn't mean that Legendary is unfair. You're just bad at the game. I managed the whole thing solo, and I started playing Halo Christmas of 2009.

 • Legendary is easy, save for the jackal snipers. Go on normal or heroic first.

 • Patience and careful aim will get you through Legendary on any Halo game. Try again, it's very satisfying to finish it on your own. Or watch the ending on YouTube.

 • well, the haulo gram should help you with the snipers, the dropshield should help you with grunts, and the active camo should help you with the escape route... GOOD LUCK

 •
Well get better at the game then. I found that Halo 3 was one of the easiest games to beat on Legendary compared to the other games.
Indeed. OP needs to learn the bread and butter of Halo encounters - Headshot weapon/Plasma Weapon combo. Headshot to thin out the herd of enemies, then Plasma weapon to shatter Brute shields to force them into melee with you (against Elites you'll have to change that tactic up by shooting them in the head when you pop shield). This combo is going to be especially effective in Reach now that the pistol will have a scope and will actually be accurate at longer ranges, and other plasma weapons will be much stronger. I don't think the Reach campaign will be very challenging on Legendary, although I think Mythic might be a pain in the ass due to the lack of easy shield refreshers that come from breaking Brute shields and going for the "l33t backsmack dawg" as t2 would say.

I found that Halo 3 was one of the easiest games to beat on Legendary compared to the other games.
Halo 3 Leg. had some difficult points for me and the guy I co-oped with, but we overcame all over Cortana. Halo 3: ODST's Leg. however, was MUCH easier. Unless you are the kind of person who decides to run headlong into each patrol of Brutes and their Engineer secks slave, then you could easily run around most/all the Nighttime enemies. Even some levels were easy to beat with some luck and a hint of cowardice. There's an achievement that rewards you for doing so.

 • The difficulty is perfectly fine (assuming it is actually harder than H3). I mean, if everyone can beat legendary, it wouldn't be that special of an achievement now would it? Legendary difficulty is supposed to be for the best of the best. If you don't think you will have fun and ENJOY campaign, just start on some other difficulty. Forget the Extended Endings and/or easter egg or achievement thing, and play the first time through with ease.

 • It's not supposed to be easy. The best advice I can give you is to take your time. Take it one enemy at a time, inch by inch. Make sure every enemy within your range is dead before moving up. As for Jackal snipers, it's ala trial and error. Once you know where they are you pop off a shot, duck, do it again.

 • Legendary being unbeaatable? No. I beat the first 5 levels by myself, at which point I enlisted the help of friends to get past some vehicle heavy parts, and then I went solo again for the last mission. Also, of course its going to be frustrating! Thats why they call it Legendary and its the hardest difficulty. Try playing on Herioc and YouTube the ending or something.

 • I don't think it's unfair. I thought Halo 3 Legendary was mostly pathetic. If the difficulty setting is causing you to not have fun, then maybe you should stick with an easier setting. It's supposed to be enjoyable, after all.
