After you go flawless on a character you shouldn't be able to play trials, or fix matchmaking.

Face the facts. Its Sunday afternoon as a casual player trying to get some trials gear. Find a chill group of guys who are all pretty good. The first round goes nicely, maybe even the second. And then you get a super team... a team of people who do literally nothing but trials. They all have flawless-ed 22 times and have K/D's of 8 or above. (an exaggeration of course but you get the point). Well that was a hiccup, but we can go for 7 wins at least. And then you get another... and another.... and soon you reset your card for another run. And it happens over and over, usually by the same teams. I write this after coming across a team where 3 of the four players had the tracker and they had all won more than 120 rounds EACH. By trying to make trials more accessible they have created a situation where NOBODY outside of the "elite" player teams can hope to get more than one reward. And these teams get on, get their flawless, and just keep going slaughtering causal players and T-bagging them. Trials is supposed to reward skill and teamwork, not being unemployed and having infinite playtime on your hands. And I'm not salting over not going flawless. I'm not the type of player who is supposed to go flawless I get that. I'm not some super elite player who deserves it. But what these super teams are doing is robbing anyone else of the chance to get gear, or enjoy the game mode at all! If they get their flawless they should simply move to competitive pvp for their slaughterfest. It's not fair to the rest of us with jobs and lives that we have to keep bashing out heads against people with hundreds of hours and crazy K/D's just for a small handful of loot. My point is if not change it so you can only play until flawless, than at least change the matchmaking system.

  • Won't happen. Too many free advertisers for Destiny (aka, "Streamers") make their living with paid Trails carries.

  • These 'superhuman' players you speak of are normally groups of players that play pvp together week in week out, and have done on many games for many years. As a result, they know how to communicate with each other, they know how each other plays, and can adapt to one or two changes in team mates. These players will have had their asses handed to them thousands of times over before they handed yours to yourself. It's just experience, and a certain level of skill acquired over time that the average casual player never normally gets to. You too could be in one of those teams if you're prepared to find a committed group of players and stick at it, put in the time, be able to take a loss, and adapt to the meta. If not, there are HUNDREDS of players available to you on twitch that offer raffled and auctioned carries, and all they normally require is time spent in their chat. In the mean time, trials match making will likely not be altered. As stated in the director, it's a 'high intensity' game mode. Enough said. Hard mode raid is probably gonna be 'high intensity' aswell, but you yourself will get it done once. The second time it'll be easier, and you'll keep doing it every week until it's easy and second nature. But you won't see trials players calling for a raid difficulty nerf 😉 Just sayin.

We've been saying this in one way or another since Trials came out in HoW. The actual solution is to only match people who have gone flawless that week against other people who have gone flawless that week. This does two things. It gets the tryhards out of the main rotation, opening the game up to players with normal, human level of skill (instead of the superhumans who would be in the first round). The other effect is that it increases the difficulty for the superhuman players on their second run through of the week. They always say they want it to be difficult, well, here's their chance to prove it. This way, the superhuman players get to keep playing a mode they payed for. A streamer, streamer supporter, or someone that likes to get carried, will be along shortly to argue that this is a bad idea. But those are the only ones that would be negatively affected by this change.

I just wish it was more of a skill based matchmaking instead of it being totally random on who you'll face. I'm ok with facing people who've gone flawless as so have I. I however don't really want to face people who have gone flawless 8+ times already in the last 2 weeks. That's a straight ass whooping for me and not competitive at all. The more annoying issue is really THOSE players who 'seem' to just be still playing trials to sh*t in peoples cereal so they can't go flawless. Or at least it feels that way when it's SOOOO lopsided. Just fix the matchmaking so the KD's ...or average of the KD's....or ELO or whatever is relevant.

      • Don't lock them out that's insane, just put them in a pool with other flawless players. I honestly don't see what's wrong with that. It'll give them the endgame competition they actually want. Doesn't that kinda fix the whole thing? Oh yea and give them a good incentive too otherwise it'll be pointless.

        • Should we say after one raid completion you can't raid again? Or you can only raid with people that already beat the raid? The answer is hell no. Same answer for trials.

About the trials lockout if you go flawless...
Excuse you and your entire race?
With trials I understand your frustration I would agree with the putting them with higher tiers, but then differs the question that which is better, SBMM or CBMM? So with either one having their pros and cons could either a. Mean better connection which I prefer even though bungie servers are shit anyway Or B. SBMM which in term can lower the CBMM which means worse connection Which would you rather have?

          • I just find it stupid that the most "competitive" mode in the game has the widest skill gap, in order to weed out more casual players in favor of the hardcore, high-skilled players. This is despite the fact that there is no ranking system to make your skill matter, so as more casual players leave the Trials player pool, more and more lag and other garbage will crop up. This all just leads to less players playing to have fun, and to test themselves, and more people just hanging back and getting carried. I hated Trials in D1, so I accepted a couple carries, because I made it a point to collect loot and most importantly grimoire. Now that loot is accessible just for playing the game mode, it lessens the pressure to win since you'll still get your loot. You just have to play. I think Trials needs a ranking system like Overwatches. You can play against players within 500 points of yourself.

            • Trials is garbage. A bunch of carriers and cheaters steam rolling through, teleporting and glitching around and shooting people through walls. If you go flawless you should be put into another bracket with different rewards to go sweats for. But the real problem is the servers - there should have been dedicated servers - this is stupid. You want D2 to be an E-Sport ? BS Bungie. not when people are shooting other people through walls and are INVINICBLE to damage due to peer to peer lag. Its garbage, and not even fun.

              • im not sure the limiting the amount of trials people can play is a smart thing to do. i mean, typically devs want people to play their game alot. Also, if u change match making to SBMM, people will abuse the system by intentionally losing to lower their stats then they will get easy wins. IMO match making should be separated in tiers. people in higher tiers get exclusive COSMETIC items. im a 2.4-2.5 kd trials player, smashing bad players is not fun. In fact, its a waste of time for both teams and both teams would prefer a more competitive and close game. An example of my ideal trials would be divisions named Bronze, Silver, Gold, Plat, Diamond, Masters, Challenger. (the league of legends ranking system). Players who go enter a division get a corresponding emblem proving they made it to that rank. However, to minimize boosting, players would only be able to player with people in or beside their division(ie silver can only player with bronze-gold players. Players would be promoted by winning games, not going flawless. Flawless would act identical to the current system. HOWEVER, this system has flaws such as lag in high tiers, boosting, non-mics, smurfs, etc. Every system will have errors to it. I just believe this system maximizes fun while making it more fair.

I totally agree that it is beyond dumb that a team with players who have never went flawless or even hit 7 wins gets matched against the "super teams" that you describe. As others have said, flawless players should be put into a pool of other flawless players for the remainder of the week of Trials in question. Bungie already has an emblem in the game that tracks flawless completions. This means that they know when a team or player goes flawless. All they would need is another pool of players that have a flawless variable set to 1. I also agree with what others are saying about fireteams. If a fireteam has a single flawless player on the team, the whole team should still be matched with other flawless teams.

                  • heres a kicker for each flawless win you have in a week, your guns slowly lose dps and you get a huge handicap. the more flawless the higher chance you have 2 lose. (HOW PRO DO YOU REALLY THINK MOST PEOPLE ARE) . for the record 90% ppl that have a 2.0 or higher kd never play ppl at that level or they let their teamates die alot for self gain. it shows in their w/l ratio, most gd players dont even have a 70% win rate which basically proves my point.

Iv said this before as well.. Its unfair for those who want to go flawless and are not as skilled as most of the teams that patrol the match making. There are teams that play with the only purpose to screw lower skilled teams over so they can not go flawless. Its an unfair match system. I agree with one of the other comments though, instead of making it a lock out system if you go flawless.. Make it so flawless teams match agaisnt flawless teams, and make it a tier system, and let flawless sweaties duke it out to see who is the best among themselves.

                        • Very simple fix I have said for YEARS. TIERS. Go flawless 1x go to tier 1. Go flawless 2x go to tier 2 and etc. It will TRULY show who the TOP players are over weeks/months/years AND allow the 90% (or whatever statistic year 1 had) of the player base an actual chance.

                            • Dude yes. Trials is utter bullshit! In the first week of Trials I tried tens of games with different groups that I had to LFG for because no one in my clan is good at crucible but me. I am not in anyway saying I'm super sweet, my ELO sits around 1100-1300 on all game modes except trials (900). I only won two games out of about 28 matches. And id say 25 of those loses came to teams adorned in Flawless medals. D1 atleast made it feasable for someone with an ELO like mine to come close. (No I never made it to the lighthouse but I did make it to 8-0 before we lost our final match.) On D1 I never expected to go flawless because I'm just not good enough. But I knew for a fact I could get a nine win ticket every single week for all of the rewards. I have not gotten one single trials reward because there isn't a tier system for people to fight in. How is a 1200 avg ELO team that doesnt know each other supposed to beat 1700 ELOS that know each other well? I'm not begging for easy Flawless or anything but -blam!- if someone has never been flawless before they should not have to face a flawless team until the last win or until they finally break the flawless barrier.
