Anyone else frustrated that once a mod has been applied to a certain piece of gear you can't get it back? You should be able to:
1) Pay a certain amount of glimmer or other currency to decouple mods from gear
2) Automatically get mods (EDIT: or at least a mod component) back when you dismantle gear
EDIT: Thanks for all the comments! Can't believe this many people have similar thoughts. I agree with what a lot of people are saying: even a mod component returned would be a big improvement, similar to how gunsmith materials are given when dismantling gear.
EDIT 2: Obviously gaining the ability to remove mods from exotics poses a problem since people could rebuy exotics from their vault and remove their mods for a limitless supply. Perhaps mods that inherently come with exotics could be "exotic" versions that are unable to be removed. Manually applied legendary mods could then override these inherent exotic mods and be removed if so desired. Alternatively, exotics specifically bought from the vault could simply not have any mods on them in the first place.
EDIT 3: Easy mod farming method:
Thanks to everyone that has posted about this easy farm method, especially @LT Break for breaking it down for us. For those that don't already know:
1) Go to your vault and purchase exotics for 10 legendary shards a piece.
2) Dismantle all those exotics you just bought. You get back 5 shards and 3 gunsmith materials for each one.
3) Go to the gunsmith, and turn in all of the gunsmith materials you just collected. You'll get an assortment of random weapons in addition to random blue and legendary mods.
4) Keep the legendary mods you like and dismantle the ones you don't. Use their mod components on the gunsmith's "Create Weapon Mod" feature to choose between generating even more random legendary weapon or armor mods.
This workaround is nice way to reliably acquire those elusive kinetic weapon mods that so many of us are hunting. Good luck!

Why the hell can't we take out our mods? I got a primary with Boss Spec in it - it's badass. Then comes along a weapon that's 15 power better. Hmmmm, I kinda want to use the more powerful weapon. BUT WAIT - I can't take out the mod without destroying my other badass gun that is unfortunately lower power for me now. Why the hell am I forced to even contemplate breaking down either gun, or just be stuck with a better gun without the mod I want to use in it............. This system is -blam!-ing stupid Bungie. A lot of what these people have already typed is still relevant to today's system. FIX IT, or go back to Halo! (P.S. I love Halo. I literally only buy Xbox consoles for Netflix, and Halo. That being said stick with a full on shooter, or pull from Blizzard's experience of MMO's and fix the -blam!-ing crafting system)

I'm apparently late to the game here but I would also like to see something along these lines. I get there's the Locking functionality which is what a lot of people will point to, "you don't need an undue dismantle button, that's what the lock is for!" Once you've earned an item, lets say a Gauntlet Faster Reload Mod for Kinetic weapons, if you don's use the item and dismantle it, you should be able to purchase that item back from Banshee. I was just grinding, trying to get this last mod to finish getting an armor set configured how i wanted for my hunter. Instead of applying the mod to my gauntlets, I did the dumbest thing possible and held down square instead; goodbye mod and hello again grind. Granted I shouldn't have been a dumbass but still would be awesome if i was able to go buy it back since i never used it.

Or you know. Treat the Gunsmith like an actual vendor? If I need Class Abilities cool down faster when using Arc subclass on a Titan mark why can't just either A) have a rotating inventory so I can just spend glimmer for what I want or B) have the blue mods still be random but at least narrow down the RNG to the specific slot you're looking for (eg class item mods) It's not like I go to Target with 60 bucks and go "I want the new game that just came out" and instead of the clerk going "oh, which one? Several games just came out this week, and on which platform" because I actually got to buy South Park for PS4. Not slam down 60 bucks and hoped the clerk assigned me South Park for PS4. You know what I mean? If he's a vendor, don't you usually buy what you WANT / NEED from a vendor??

I'm sure it has already been said but where it gets really frustrating for me is when you decide you'd like to go a different route with armor mod's, either due to PVE or PVP play, when you pay 5k glimmer to attach the new armor mod the one that you also paid 5k glimmer for is now gone at least from the standpoint that if you'd like to attach that same mod to an armor piece you have to pay 5k glimmer for it again... I'd imagine we could all agree that there is quite a bit of "feeling" out armor mods to decide whether the ones you have attached are enjoyable. I think the mod system in general is very solid, would just be nice to have say a vault of mods that have been paid for so you could attach them as you please without have to fork up glimmer again.
-
If you don't already have multiples of every mod, you are doing it wrong. You probably have 100k glimmer just sitting there. What are you saving it for. You should be buying random blue mods.

3 Repliesit should be a NO for exotics, but for legendarys if they have a legendary mod, dismantling teh gear should give you 1 mod componant, and some bright dust if a eververse shader was equiped (like 4 or 5 dust.
-
Better: - Pay in Silver - Pay in Bright Dust - Pay in Shaders That way Bungie can still grab some cash
-
3 RepliesOr when you dismantle equipment with a legendary mod you get the blue version of that mod.
-
My issue is with transmat effects being one time only
-
7 RepliesDisagreed.. the mods are fine as they are and it compels me to make some actual choises setting up my gear. If you can just toss them over willy nilly, what's the fun in that. Remeber that in the perviouse Destiny.. you got your gear and were stuck with the 'mods' on them, untill you might pick up the same gear again from the RNG drop in a raid..untill you had one with your desired stats. This already is quite an improvement. But I do agree with the fact, that dismanteling modded gear at least should give you a Mod-Component.

3 RepliesBumpty dumpty sat on a wall. Bumpty dumpty had a....just let me get a kinetic mod for my Better Devils....I can't stop talking in rhymes. Help
-
3 RepliesBut then what would you farm for?
-
1 ReplySlightly off topic but consumable shaders is annoying.
-
1 ReplyThis community really is lazy :/
-
Edited by WormChi: 10/3/2017 8:43:57 PMThere are only 4 types of weapon mods. There's barely any armor too. Legendary shards > exotics > gunsmith materials > mods. Dismantle unwanted mods for more mods. If it were an actual mod system like Division with scopes, barrels, armor perks, ect I could see this. As it stands now mods are few and far between and mostly meaningless as it's the only endgame grind once you're capped.
-
At the very least let us keep the ones that come with random guns. That would give our "10th Better Devils Hand Cannon" some kind of excitement - seeing if it has a mod, and if so, which one.
-
1 Replythen there would be no point of mods once you get one for each armor/gun type
-
1 ReplyBeing able to choose what kind of mod we craft will be nice too.
-
Agreed when wet dismantle a legendary with a mod, you should get it back.
-
Edited by Ollie Choklit: 10/2/2017 7:57:06 PMthis would require more coding and bungie/activision are too lazy to do this. either that or it will be part of an over priced dlc so you will be paying real money to get this option
-
5 Replieswhat is a kinetic weapon legendary mod, are they real, do they exist?
-
2 RepliesThey need timers so they naturally expire both in your inventory and on gear
-
1 ReplyRespectfully, f off.
-
5 RepliesThen I would have LITERALLY nothing to grind for. As much as I’d like for it to happen, I don’t think it would be good for the game.
-
This is way this game sucks people like you complain about the dumbest things there are these mods and shaders are the easiest things to get in the game stop crying and just play the game to get more it's really not that hard!
-
Dammit now you know they're just going to nerf the hell out of that mod farming method. I mean as best they probably should in the long run but still. Was nice while it lasted.
