"I hope people complain about how much story we have"

I hesitated in posting this because there is enough negativity surrounding this game already. But I feel people are being negative about the wrong things. There's a lot of anger about lack of random perks on guns and other things of this nature as people feel like they need something in the game to motivate them to keep playing. These complaints in my opinion are a little misguided. We shouldn't be asking for more artificial ways to extend the game (with grind), we should be asking for more real content (i.e. more traditional quests and adventures). I'm not unhappy with the quality of the content. I genuinely love the game and think it's a big improvement over the first one. My complaint is with the quantity rather than the quality. On the surface Destiny 2 seems to present itself as a RPG MMO. It gives us side quests (adventures), dungeons (lost sectors), NPC's (world vendors) and an open world with a map. They are all great but the problem is compared to other RPG's there just isn't enough of them. I'm a casual player (1 or 2 hours a night) and I've completed all the story content this game has to offer twice in 2 weeks. I can't think of any other MMO/RPG that you can finish all the quests and story missions in that amount of time. Think of games like The Witcher 3, Skyrim or any other open world RPG and you will be playing for months before you run out of side quests and dungeons to explore. This makes me wonder, should we be thinking of Destiny as more of a COD, Halo type game? Play the story, play the raid, play a little PvP and then put it down until the next DLC comes out? If that's the case why even create an open world and a levelling system in the first place? Why give us these beautiful worlds if you aren't going to fill them with stories and NPC's? It feels like an RPG - but one without the content to sustain itself as an RPG. Instead of a large amount of quests and stories they've given us repeatable activities like public events, patrols and strikes to keep us going. Those activities are fine but I have very little motivation to repeat them without some story or quest to work towards in conjunction. At the moment it's just levelling and loot grinding without purpose. This game as it stands seems to have repeated the same mistake Destiny 1 made. Great game, loads of fun to play but nowhere near enough story content. The story is much better this time and they have added some traditional RPG quests but it just isn't enough. This post may be premature, they could potentially be planning on adding new adventures and quests on a regular basis. But I suspect this is it until the DLC in December.

  • Structurally, it's a loot driven MMORPG, but with the gameplay of a FPS. It basically took the Borderlands concept and took it much further. There's plenty of content. The problem is so much of it becomes irrelevant after 265. Destiny is, after all, a loot/reward based game. For example, I've only done a handful of the adventures, and some were really fun and interesting (like the one on Nessus where the dead captain's consciousness is inside a vex harpy). So why haven't I done them all? Because there is no point, no reward, no advancement, no loot. Just a couple weapon parts from dismantling the irrelevant blue item I get. Ditto lost sectors. Ditto meditations (only 3 per week, only 3 coins each as your reward). There simply isn't much rewarding activities outside of your weekly milestones, which you can easily finish in a couple hours (other than the raid). You've got the daily milestone for token farming, and heroic public events for exotic farming.
