I've noticed quite a few times now that when I transfer an item it literally just doesn't happen or not all my items show up in the Gears menu. The only solution is to close the app and re-open it and if that doesn't work I result to Destiny Item Manager. Also I think there should be an easier way to transfer items, more specifically multiple items. Maybe adding in a feature where you can tick the items you want to transfer and it does them all at the same time? DIM also has a great feature where you can transfer an item that you currently have equipped and it equips the next weapon you have available to fill in the slot. Instead of you having to manually equip a different item and THEN being able to transfer the one you want. Seems a bit tedious to do at times?
