I can't be the only one who thinks getting a perfect roll or constantly trying to was one of the main aspects of the original and had us coming back for more? Now I see everything for what it really is.. reskinned and recolored with no real differences.
Levelling my guns to get a feel for them and unlocking the perks that felt signifcant were a huge part of the experience and without that it feels very empty.. It's kind of sad and since it is this way I don't see any 'U turn' coming any time soon on that route.
Edit: I'm definitely leaning more towards the randomization of perks or the addition of a way to customize the perks, and not the levelling of guns itself. It was something I felt needed brought up in relation to guns in the original.
-
I miss that, everything feels cheap now. Getting a God roll gun or the perfect tier 12 piece of armor was what made me stick around in D1 so long.
-
Static rolls was probably the dumbest decision made in all of Destiny 2.
-
I have so many duplicates. This game is getting old quick.
-
I've said it before and I'll say it again. PvE and PvP gear needs to be separate. PvP needs gear that you can only take into PvP, this is where there should be static rolls. PvE should have it's own gear that's only allowed in PvE, this is where we get random rolls. Other games do this with success, I don't know why Bungie refuses to adopt this system.
-
I spent 4 days straight on Nessus for the Exodus Down Robes, and still don't have them. There's loot to chase in D2, just not random weapon rolls that also make the game impossible to properly balance.
-
Static gun rolls are the only way to maintain a balanced game where people with time to grind their life away don't always have a huge advantage via their limitless time to pursue "god rolls." It has to be this way.
-
Edited by Moot: 9/26/2017 8:44:24 PMBungie is no longer interested in making a game where you have to grind in a very extended repetitive manner in order to feel a sense of progression. If your main source of enjoyment in Destiny came from grinding hours on end for a 'god roll', then your interests are now in conflict with Bungie's vision; they don't want that to be the thing that keeps people coming back to this franchise. Bungie's cutting away the grind, so if the grind is what keeps you interested, D2 isn't gonna be the game for you. Hardcore players are not Bungie's target audience anymore.
-
Static rolls are probably one of the best improvements to the game.
-
Couldn't agree more.
-
It didn't harm playability, but it definitely gave less incentive towards powering away at the same 1-2 tasks for hundreds of hours in the hopes of getting a good roll on something that may or may not be on its way out of the meta.
-
Yeah but now Bungie's job is so much easier in regards to balance. That's what's important right?
-
At least crucible is level now.
-
I hated the extra RNG from it and the resulting high variance in a weapons power. Would rather have fixed rolls than RNG. A game should be played and replayed because it is fun not because it creates a gambling addiction using RNG. As for weapon systems, removing the OP perks then letting you customize your gun at the gunsmith would be best. Leave builds up to preference.
-
I wouldn't mind if they implemented more specific weapon mods, ones that that affect stability and other base stats, or provide more interesting perks like outlaw or dragonfly. It would be tricky to balance, because obviously certain weapon types shouldn't have certain perks. If they did do this, it would add a larger rng factor (because mod drops are fairly random right now). More specific weapon mods would allow for a more customized playstyle, which I'm sure everyone would appreciate.

Some advantages and disadvantages about gun rolls in D2... Pros: No more grinding for the same weapon with the rolls you wanted. The Swarm... *shudders* No more doing stuff to unlock the weapon perks. I admit that was kinda fun back then. Cons: Slightly takes away the excitement of getting guns. I dunno... Maybe reduces the motivation of looting? I honestly can't think anymore. I don't mind the static rolls too much.

Edited by CatMan: 9/26/2017 6:25:52 PMImo? No it didnt. Lack of content did. I get why bungie set weapon rolls in stone, I don't get why they completely gutted the game. I don't get why they kill what players like.
-
Didn't they just make more guns to counter the perfect roll? And to make the balancing easier for them. The only thing I think that takes away from the original game is how we don't have to level them up anymore. I felt it gave you a chance to really get to know the weapon before you decided to shitcan or use it.

Edited by funkyguy1234: 9/26/2017 6:05:44 PMIm sure more gear will be added. I agree but on the flip side with the way its setup atleast you wont grind for a month, get your perfect roll and have it nerfed in a few months. Personally i like finding a gun and mastering it so nerfing annoys the hell outa me. Only reason i stopped playing d1. Diversity is a bit of a problem tho, cant find a little known beastly wepon that took you months to get so you know no one is going to be able to just coppy your setup. DIS47 was my favorite

Ah yes, it's you again..
Wait, this is your first post on the subject?

I couldn't tell over the hundreds of others constantly whining about the exact same thing...
I wouldn't mind it so much if the modding system were more extensive. It's not so bad for armor, but when it comes to weapons of you want to improve any stats you need to sacrifice the additional 5 power. Why can't we have purple weapon mods that also give us additional reload speed, stability, handling ect. Seems like they could take out two birds with one stone by adding more intriguing mods along with a new activity or two that we could use to grind for them. Hey those adventures are pretty cool, why don't we add some more of those at higher difficulties and throw those new improved mods in the loot pool?
-
I don't have a gambling addiction. I think they just don't have enough weapons or even varied weapons outside of exotics.
-
I like the static rolls. The only think is that there is not so much variety right now, however I suppose more weapons with different perks will be added continually.
-
Edited by meatballsublime: 9/26/2017 5:51:30 PMIt's really not "static rolls" that killed playability, as you put it. The harm is really lack of diversity in drops. Bungie should either: 1) Remove static rolls and let that be a vehicle for diversity in drops. 2) Multiple the number of different potentials drops by x2 or x3 to create diversity. (For example, we need more than 4-5 potential, static kinetic scout rifles. The number should be more like 10-15 different ones minimum.) It could literally be taking existing skins of the same class of gear, changing the color and name and perks. I don't necessarily think new art needs to be involved (although it would be nice). (For example, think DIS-43 and DIS-47 from Destiny 1... these two looked almost identical but had two different sets of stats.)
-
Bungie dropped the ball again!! They took away everything to make us all ordinary. Games boring as shit now. Wtf is the point of playing if the loot is so common.
-
Perhaps instead of guns being static with one perk, have the gun be able to roll with 4 to 6 randomly rolled perks that are dedicated to the gun itself.
-
I don't agree, let's not go back to trying to get a gun for months only to finally get an absolutely shitty roll. That is artificially extending playtime, nothing more. If we DO go back to changing rolls, make each faction have particular perks available ONLY AT THAT FACTION. PvP based perks from Shaxx, for example. A nice mixture between neutral factions, PvE only for Zavala and Ikora.
