Please read. "Lost Sectors" missed oppourtunity

Bungie had a bunch of missed opportunities with D2. First, I'd like to point out lost sectors. Well, I guess I can't really call them lost sectors since their marked on my map, it appears they're not really lost. Rather than having 5-25 "lost" sectors per map, depending on planet and size, each planet should have had 4-6 LOST sectors. These lost sectors should have been very well hidden, almost to the point where some you just have to happen upon. These lost sectors would grant, by RNG, the possibility of gear. Let me talk about the gear quick. Since each planet has an enemy race that is more prevalent, each planet would have a full set of gear for each class (Titan, Warlock, and Hunter). The pieces of the gear sets would only be obtainable from the chests at the end of the the lost sectors, based off RNG. Sometimes you'd get tokens, but there is a chance for the race specific loot. So this would give credibility as to why there's a swarm of enemies guarding a chest. I mean, let's be honest, I don't think the enemy would be guarding chests of tokens which have absolutely no worth to them. I mean, unless the fallen are gonna go hit up Devrim for a shiny piece of green gear. But, I doubt it. Now, since the amount of lost sectors have been reduced by about 50-70%, we can add some substance to these sectors. Give them story, why are they there? How did they form? Give them mechanics to get to the end of the lost sector. When they were first introduced, they were made to sound like they were gonna be some great feat. But, the truth was discovered in the first week of D2. Run past all the adds then pump the the yellow bar full of power ammo. What should have been epic adventures ended up being patrols inside caves with no story or reason for why we're raiding them. Now back to the design, like I said, give them mechanics, multiple areas of the sectors, maybe keys we need to discover to unlocks doors to even proceed further. Make the boss an actual boss, it doesn't need to be anything crazy but it should make the fight feel fun, not like a chore for a mediocre reward. And finally, each enemy race should have a race specific weapon which would be obtainable through a separate quest. This quest would be obtainable from these chests by way of RNG. By way of doing Lost Sectors this way, would have added a lot more replay-ability. Btw, I thought of this idea in about 10 minutes, your move Bungie. P.S. Thought of this after typing everything. Each planet should have a planet specific shader which would also drop from the lost sector chests. TL:DR Lost sectors were a fail. Should have been like mini strikes. Should have enemy race specific gear sets for each class and one weapon per enemy race, obtainable by the chests in the lost sectors. I have a lot more ideas for other things I think they could have implemented very well but they came out feeling rushed. Next up, I will be writing my opinion on how the Flashpoints should have been set up. Edit: Yes, I know proper writing format was thrown to the wolves here. I'm a full time college student and sometimes it nice to break away from the "this is how you have to do it" style. Think of yourself as my professor, you're looking at my brainstorming 😘

  • Lost sectors a fail? Not at all and it doesnt have to be so black and white. They are a cool idea with exploration in mind , plus they can always add to it. You guys act like everything is an end all be all.

  • I was also sorely disappointed in how lost sectors turned out. Your idea is more of what I expected and would have been awesome. It's puzzling how a company of "professionals" didn't get this right.

  • Continuation bump. Cozmo appearing and patting us on the head for noting their developmental negligence is not a "win".

  • If you go to the "About" section of the app and then to "Careers" I'm sure you could apply for a job at Bungie. No experience needed, just stand around and tell people how to do their job.

    • Was it my imagination, or did the lost sectors seem a little dicier today?

    • I assume that "Lost" means to the enemy, not "Secret" or "Missing" or "Hidden", but that would be
common sense
.

    • I don't think RNG would be good since there are, and i quote "4-6 LOST sectors per planet". I think each planet should have a base of 6 lost sectors with the same description you gave, interesting mechanics, hordes of enemies, a final boss, etc. However, instead of making the loot 1 or 2 pieces, make the loot locked (gear or weapons and have some miscellaneous items, tokens or blue armor gear, mods or resources) and make these lost sectors a one-time thing. Another approach is to have the lost sectors reset per weekly reset (i haven't played enough to know if they reset every week or not). The lost sectors should have race specific loot, preferably no reskins, full armor set, class item and a weapon. It should be 1 specific weapon (Kinetic, Energy or Power) to make it more special. Example: Bringing back all of the Year 1 Raid Exotic weapons (Vex Mythoclast, Necrocassim, Touch of Malice, and Outbreak Prime) reskinned as legendary versions with regular legendary weapon perks. It's simple but gives a bit of nostalgia to those D1 vets. Its food for thought. Some might be against it because it can be viewed as a lazy design or some might believe that those weapons should stay in D1 and never come back. Idk, i thought it would be cool to have weapons included too.

    • Another issue is they have so much low - mid game activities. Most people get to level 20 pretty quick. Adventures, quests and lost sectors just don't factor in. I know I haven't played much of any of those things.

A lot of wasted potential in this game. Lots of things that could have been implemented, or improved upon, had Bungie just taken the time... The Armor/Weapon mod system, the Lost Sectors, the Adventures, the Exotics, the quest weapons, the static weapon rolls, the class-specific swords you get after completing the campaign, and so on. All of these could have been way better, but Bungie dropped the ball, as usual. They couldn't even be bothered to create unique armor and weapons for the Factions. Dead Orbit could have had a Fallen/Hive theme, new Monarchy could have had regal-looking, or Cabal themed, armor and weapons, and Future War Cult could have had Vex themed gear with hologram class items. What's worse is that a lot of--if not all--the improvements that were made in Destiny 1 have been just thrown out the window in Destiny 2. Heroic Strikes, Strike-Specific gear, private matches, Crucible game modes, etc. They've taken a step backwards, and even removed things no one asked to be removed, like ammo synths, and being able to buy legendary gear from the vendors. Instead they've opted for more RNG, as if they completely forgot how much players dislike the constant RNG. It's just a lazy way to extend play time.

              • Bungie has missed opportunities with a lot things in D2 and they did the same in D1. I wonder if there's actually a reason why they're missing out on these things..
