In the new version there it states that reach comes under attack at 2542 and not 2552.
the battles for Sigama Octanus and Reach are now 2542
Cole is now a Fleet Admiral in 2530
Admiral Stanforth is now a Vice Admiral
700+ ships attacked reach

Remember, they are re-doing the flood and first strike too, so it may be that 300 hundred ships was retconned to 700,cole being a fleet adimral at 2530 was a purposful retcon, etc. (still wanting to know books size...)
about 410 pages
I meant if you were just looking at the cover, what would the height and width be? IE, when fall of reach/the flood/first stike, was first out, it was 7in tall and 4 in across, while ghosts of onyx/contact harvest/cole protocole was 8 & 1/4in tall and 5 & 1/2 inchs across EDIT: why was I the only one who liked legends/evolutions/halo wars AND loves the canon?
It's the same size of the other Tor Halo books. Bit thicker though. I liked Legends, Evolutions, and Wars as well. Though this reissue is just shoddy craftsmanship in general much like the Halo Encyclopedia. Edit: So on a semi-bright side. They've rectonned the Elite in the The Package from the Halo Legends short. The red elite known as Thel and presumed to be the Arbiter we would all come to know is not not the same. Instead it's an individual named Thel Lodamee. On a semi-down side they also killed another Spartan in the process of elaborating on that story. [Edited on 08.03.2010 3:13 PM PDT]
Posted by: JABBERWOCK xeno why was I the only one who liked legends/evolutions/halo wars AND loves the canon?
Hmmm... I would definitely say you are in the minority with that opinion. The only part of those that I liked a lot was Origins. All of the rest was unnecessary waffle as far as I'm concerned, Origins had a lot of meat to it.
Posted by: flamedude I thought the Ascendant Justice guys were at 343 now??
They are, though the last thing they worked on that they're credited with (to my knowledge) is that Phantom Takedown video...

I don't really understand why this is happening. Why the shoddiness? I had a bad feeling when Halo Legends came out (and Halo Wars too) that this was the beginning of the end. The quality is starting to wash out, but I don't see any reason why it has to be this way. The new contributors (i.e. everyone not Bungie) just need to put a bit of effort in, this information is not exactly hard to find is it?? I thought the Ascendant Justice guys were at 343 now??
Posted by: StealthSlasher2 but I think the Forerunner books will be the real final nail or last saving grace for them prior to any game coming out. So I'm saving my final judgment till then.
This is a good way to look at it. I was really excited about the Forerunner books, now though...

Got the book in my hands, and yep it really does look like they took the first edition and made those unnecessary changes before lazily slapping on the extra content at the end of the book. I am disappointed in their handling of it though I still hold some faith in 343. They've pretty much established that they're not going to handle the book reissuings well at all, but I think the Forerunner books will be the real final nail or last saving grace for them prior to any game coming out. So I'm saving my final judgment till then. Still it's amusing to see how the Halo Waypoint facebook commenters are slowly going from cool to oh wait, what are you saying?! in regards to the book

If we go by the canon hierarchy then halo reach, which says 2552, is superior to the new The Fall of Reach then that pretty much makes the new book a waste of money. That book is no better than fanfiction.

As soon Bungie is out, 343 and Microsoft are going to damage badly the Halo lore, that's for sure, first Halo: Legends, and now the new edition of "The Fall of Reach". Indeed, this is a disgrace.
Posted by: Lord Snakie This is embarrassing, disgraceful, and downright sad. I'm actually sad to say that I saw it coming all along. Alright boys, this is where the sunder happens. I'm abandoning the new Halo canon, not buying any material after Reach. It's been a good run, boys, and I'll miss all of you. But I've got to lower anchor and abandon ship before this gets unbearable. A fine farewell to you all and to Halo's previously-beautiful lore.
At least wait for the official announcement so they can try to convince you to keep paying them money. :) [Edited on 08.03.2010 2:21 PM PDT]

So after reading through this thread and seeing what paulmarv has said about the mistakes in the new version, I have come to a few conclusion about the new version of TFoR: 1) They seem to have taken the original version of the book (the one with date errors and other cannon inconsistencies) and used that as the pallet for pasting the new chapter about Winter Contingency in. Instead of rewriting it and fixing all of the mistakes. (which should have been done.) 2) This I am hoping would explain the 2542 date mix up. Hopefully it was just an error that was copy pasted into every date in the book...gulp that seems unlikely. But I will be sticking with that until we have some official word. 3) because of #2 I will still assume that Reach Fell in 2552 and was not a decade long battle. 4) Apparently there are now 700 Covenant ships at the Battle of Reach. Unfortunately opog this seems to have been specifically done to mesh with Lord Hoods "50 times" statement so I don't think it can be a mistake. 5) This has caused a complete loss of faith in 343 for me. I always tried to defend them saying give them a chance. Well here it was and they blew it...sigh. Of course this is just from reading paulmarv's posts. I suppose I will have to buy it and read it for myself before I pass final judgment but if it is how paulmarv is painting it to be... I'm disappointed. [Edited on 08.03.2010 1:58 PM PDT]
Posted by: opogjijijp
Posted by: paulmarv
Posted by: opogjijijp Are the SMACs still "point four tenths" (chapter 31)?
Yep, it says on page 320 that the Super MAC guns could accelerate a three-thousand-ton projectile to "point four-tenths" the speed of light. Give me a quick refresher here, I don't have the real book in front of me: does the real version have the dash? Perhaps that is attempting to clarify this.
It does have the dash in my version. So I see they've ignored the encyclopedia(The Definitive guide to the Halo Universe). Just curious.
The first page of chapter five states that there are seventy-five children in the squad.
A page or two later it should have John checking to make sure all 67 kids are with him or something like that. Or it does in my old version.
so you are saying they say it is point four teneths, then change it, and then change it back?! This is ridiculous.
Posted by: MeLtingBrAinZ guys relax! their just making 10years of space for the new halo games..,cause you know prior to reach it wouldn't be so cool cause without shields and stuff they would have to change the game style :P
Now that would be shameless milking if they did that. Warping the storyline so much in order to make more games. That would mean either: ~It takes 10 years for PoA to get from Reach to Halo Alpha. ~The Battle of Reach lasted for 10 years. ~The whole war finished 10 years earlier, in 2542. This then makes the war last only 17 years. All those scenarios are...mad, all with multiple issues attached.
