I'm still disappointed. inb4 "somthing somthing self rez"
I'm not just disapointed about Sunsinger being scraped because of one broken perk they could have just got rid of. I'm more disapointed with how it seems to just not exist in destiny at all now. There is no mention of sunsingers in D2. Where the absolute hell did dawnblade come from? I could understand keeping the name but changing how warlocks use solar light. But now all of a sudden we are dawnblades?
Same goes for the other two changed subclases.
Bungie should have just gotten rid of self rez and buffed the team focused perks.
I can't even use my sunsinger emblem anymore because they removed the legend thing.

1 ReplyEdited by AKA-MrScrub: 10/31/2017 10:00:31 AM
We peer into the subclasses and look at opportunities. While I know that many players love the Sunsinger warlock, I think the fantasy of having a super in Destiny is the fantasy of using it, and the Sunsinger encouraged you to not use your super. It encouraged you to sit on it and use it like a one-up when it was time. That also makes things like counterbalance more of a headache than we want it to be. So we knew we wanted to give the solar Warlock an overhaul.-Luke Smith
I don't agree with sentiment; as other have previously stated the revive was just a bonus. I for one only used the revive in certain PVE situations. In term of actual use the Sunsinger was the only ability that provided a tank/support role for the Warklock's. Replacing it with a near clone of the Titan's Hammers (a dps) appears to be an oversight on the part of the dev team. At the very least (if saving it for revives was the issue) they could have gone a similar route to Blizzard with Overwatch's Mercy. Revamping the class, shuffling around the skill tree/abilities, adding and increased ability charge rate if the revive skill tree was selected, etc. There were so many options and the complete avoidance of the issue at hand exemplifies the fact the this is likely a "cash-crab" attempt. What upsets me the most about this is that they are likely to sell Sunsinger back to us in a DLC.

1 ReplyI feel like it should be similar to how titans can use a ward of dawn just if we're dead we can choose to Rez or not but when we do we don't get a sword just regular radiance
-
The lore reason is that it isn't truly gone; Guardians can use the Light to form whatever they feel is necessary. An example of this is Ana Bray, as when she fired her Goldengun during the Battle of Twilight Gap she created pools of solar light (think of Sunspots). Another example is Felwinter, who was taught how to use his Void light to perform a shoulder charge of sorts even though he was a Warlock. Technically, our Guardian, if you chose Titan you could have, instead of a shield, you could have a giant Void land mine that would cause a massive Void explosion (in theory)! Hope I cleared some things up!

I agree lorewise it is a really strange move. Personally I feel like they should've revamped all the subclasses

9 RepliesWhat would be the purpose of sunsinger without self res???
-
1 ReplySelf rez machine 🅱️roke, we got swords tho
-
2 RepliesI'm not really sure how self-res was "broken," but for the sake of argument agreeing that it was - just remove it and add some team-oriented buff (even the addition of rifts might have been enough to balance it out). Self-res was good for some specific situations, but I mained Sunsinger in D1 and rarely had self-res selected. I only used that when my team wanted me to, such as hard mode raids and Nightfall. Normally, I used either the buff that makes the super last longer, or the buff to teammates' recharge rates, depending on the situation. Why? Because it was fun! At least for me, can't speak for everyone. But my typical way of playing was to wear Sunbreakers, select solar grenades, and use the super for grenade spam. It wasn't OP, it was just fun. Dawnblade is ok but there was no need to remove Sunsinger. Dawnblade plays like an imitation of Titan Sunbreakers. In D2, I mostly play as a Stormcaller or sometimes Voidwalker.

What gets me is over the course of the game and even in a strike "embrace the praxic fire" the praxic Warlocks are brought up and mentioned it's like they have to slap us In the face with it too
-
I liked using Sunbreakers and the Tlaloc because I'd never actually use my super. I'd just use the grenades to control to flow of combat by cutting off doors and hallways.

Edited by EchoAquarius: 9/27/2017 2:38:38 PMI know its not particularly mentioned in the lore, but i think the new subclasses were kinda created on the fly. I think that when the Red Legion attacked, Sunsingers, Bladedancers, and Defenders suddenly needed a way to inflict a lot of damage quickly. Thus, instead of using solar light to buff themselves, Sunsinger's molded their solar light into a sword, to mimic the more destructive aspects of solar energy. Bladedancers conjured their arc light into a staff, instead of a knife, in order to more efficiently take out more than one enemy simultaneously. Defenders, instead of expelling their void light outward to form a ward of dawn, drew it in, to a concentrated point, creating a shield with offensive capabilities, while still being able to defend. Being that you use the old subs in Homecoming, I think that the player guardian's time at the farm is where he/she heard from surviving guardians about the changes they made on the fly to their uses of the light. For warlocks, these changes would collectively come to form the Dawnblade subclass during the post-war time period. For hunters and titans, the different changes they made would collectively come to form the Arcstrider and Sentinel subclasses respectively. Gameplay-wise, self-res wasn't really removed for being too op. It was removed because it was too often that teams were relying on one self-res warlock to save the team. However this makes me want to go back to d1 with my friends just to play one private match as my sunsinger.

Voidwalker, the true tanking class now. Thanks Devour. 👍

nerfed.... right out of the game. no joke.
-
2 RepliesAccording to what I was able to find, the three subclasses (blade dancer defender sunsinger) were am replaced because the traveler willed it so. These subclasses did exist, but were eventually forgotten. Arcstriders were forgotten after the Dark Ages. The only Sentinel may have been Kabr, who was a Titan, and forged his light into a shield. And for dawnblade, I believe that it was originally when warlocks were testing out the travelers light. But since it was hard to summon the sword of dawn, Sunsingers became popular by using their light by throwing fireballs.
-
6 RepliesI want my sunbreakers gauntlets back. I don't understand the logic of removing the extra solar grenade on it's successor the Sunbracers. Also on another note, where are the nothing manacles? As I don't think I've seen anyone using a scatter grenade yet in Destiny 2 and I probably won't until Bungie give the voidwalker a similar exotic.
-
1 ReplyDid you read the lore on each of the subclasses? There's a lore attached to each subclass just like Exotics. If you inspect your subclass and hold the Left Trigger, a lore tab will pop up.
-
1 ReplyI can see missing perks from the skill trees returning through exotic armor. It could lead to interesting builds
-
4 RepliesEdited by DSmoke: 9/24/2017 10:03:19 PMWell one thing about destiny lore is that there may be guardian subclasses that we still may not know about, sunbreaker titans were like a sect of guardians people didnt talk about for a long time but they were there, im sure its the same for sunsingers and I hope they might come back in future dlc. I used to only play sunsinger now I only play dawnblade I loved sunsinger but I have more fun with dawnblade, the super is by far my favorite and I think even if sunsinger came back I would still play dawnblade.
-
4 RepliesThe Traveler Shard held old and corrupted light. It was no longer connected to the Traveler, meaning that it could no longer form new light abilities. Dawnblade, Arcstrider, and Sentinel are older forms of light, as shown in one of the lore pages: "no one remembers who the first were."
-
2 words, Voidwalker Devour.
-
6 RepliesEdited by Zelrons: 9/23/2017 9:53:42 PMDawnblade is much more fun than Sunsinger ever was.
-
9 RepliesSunsinger fundamentally broke the game
-
3 RepliesI feel like there might be an exotic to allow dawnblade users to self revive when they have it in a future dlc. I see it more useful for pve cause in pvp, i have seen almost all people getting their supers once per game. A lucky few to get it twice.
-
2 RepliesEdited by Ant423: 9/23/2017 8:56:11 PMI don't like the idea of a warlock running around with a sword, slicing people. That's like something a Titan would do... Come to think of it, Dawnbreaker's super is identical to the Sentinel's. Though, at least with the Sentinel, you have the option of bringing the Ward of Dawn back.
-
1 ReplyThey are pretty team focussed right now tho. With the rifts and such. Altho i do have to admit that the super is not really fantastic. Maybe if you get used to it but untill that point it feels kinda weak.
