I think planetary materials should give you more reputation than they currently do. It almost seems pointless to gather them since they are worth less than tokens. Anybody else think so?

wish there was some meaningful crafting system for mats

Not only worthless but also the chance of not getting it and just Glimmer. I've skipped them and went only for chests. I've farmed the EDZ for both Hunter and Titan sets in 3 days and not once got locked out. Do patrols, chests, HVT, events, and Sectors. I ran so many laps around the church that I could be qualified for the Olympics.

You think that's a joke? Try weapon telemetries. They move Banshee's rep bar like two pixels and you get one maybe once every couple of hours.

"Sorry guardian you have reached your quota for the next 10 min... please wait"
please wait

please wait

you may proceed to the next loot fill chest.... i mean single token chest and few hundred glimmer
Materials are a joke. Helpful until 20 and then only good for getting useless gear to broken down into materials for yet another rep vendor who gives you gear that only gets broken down...again. The grind within the grind within another grind.

They'd be fine if not for the limit on farming. After collecting 5, you gotta wait 10 min

Buuuuuump

It seems like another feature that was fine in D1 that made sense that was...for some reason...streamlined? It already fit nicely I thought. Now we just have reputation gains and nothing else.
-
They were intended to be used like in D1 and got dropped. Still in game so they turned them into rep rewards.
-
Is anything worth it. This game is allready content dry for me. To easy to do anything
-
We used to need em to upgrade bubbles on weapons and armor. The farm grind was -blam!-ing terrible. Then they allowed is to trade in for mats. That helped huge. Those mats are just cheap ways to level up a little bit more by just picking them up when you see them. No big deal here.
-
Yeah cus they are actually rarer than the tokens you get. I think that they should also have the materials that you need to do things like upgrade the weapons. However, I don't think that they should cost that much because it was a pain grinding those materials in d1 before they started selling them for glimmer
-
Turning them in increases the chance of two gear rewards per faction engram.
-
Just one of the many, very questionable features of bungie's decision making. You'll go mad trying to rationalise them.

My GUESS, is that in the future they will play a larger role than they currently do.
